About
The sun shines high in the sky. You arrive at a ruin in the desert, with only the vague promise of a priceless historical artefact hidden inside. Before you reach it, many dangers must be overcome. Can you find a path through this abandoned structure without losing your head?
The Ruin Wanderer is a small homage to the classic female archeologist simulators from the 90's. It focuses on exploration and light puzzle solving in beautifully desolate environments. Above all else, it is about atmosphere; just you, the silent ruins of a long gone civilization, and here and there a swinging blade or spike pit to watch out for.
A 15-30 minute level (more planned for the future)
No combat or dialogue, just a calm atmosphere
A ruin with many traps and secrets to explore
Walk, climb, roll, shimmy, balance, crouch and/or crawl your way around

A short, but fun exploration and traversal based love letter to everyone's favorite British raider of tombs. Really atmospheric, and I loved the addition of secrets.
Neat little game. I have a lot of nostalgia for this genre, and the implementation here is pretty good. Pushes all the right buttons. This game also properly supports Dualshock 4 controller with no fiddling around and that's very nice.
Not much to see here folks, just another cheap & short indie banger from #1 sexy Dutchman Hedgefield.
The Ruin Wanderer looks, feels, and plays like a tribute to a certain classic adventure series. Although, it’s certainly a departure from Hedgefield’s more mood and narrative driven games, mechanics and functionality are well done here.
A fun little excursion into an ancient tomb with a familiar protagonist! It's got a solid adventure atmosphere, nice level design, and is surprisingly polished for the small scope. Looking forward to the next romp!
[h1] Honest Trailers Parody:[/h1] [TRAILER VOICE] From the indie developer who looked at a modern, high-end graphics card and said, "No thanks, I prefer my polygons smooth, flat, and entirely untextured," comes a quiet, cozy, existential crisis wrapped in a desert vacation. Prepare to experience the ultimate sensation of absolute, overwhelming déjà vu. Step into the boots of a completely original, independent female archaeologist wearing a totally distinct tight tank top, long pants, and combat boots. Travel to a mysterious, ancient desert tomb filled with swinging blades, sudden spike pits, and climbing ledges that feel remarkably familiar—like a core memory from 1996 that has been scrubbed completely clean of pixelated textures, filtered through a minimalist aesthetic, blessed with modern, buttery-smooth 60 fps lighting, and completely stripped of audio until you mess with your Windows Volume Mixer. It is a world of pure, solitary isolation. A place so quiet, so beautifully desolate, and so liminal that you will spend half your time soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, and the other half wondering if you accidentally booted up a highly polished, premium tech demo. Marvel at the sheer mechanical precision of walking, rolling, and shimmying across platforms—all while completely missing the five glaringly obvious secrets hidden in plain sight, because a hidden room looks exactly like a normal wall! [SOUND EFFECT: RECORD SCRATCH] [A blocky, highly pixelated 3D figure steps out from the shadows, dual-wielding pistols and sporting a very sharp, triangular ponytail.] LARA CROFT: Oh, brilliant. Absolute genius. I leave the raiding business for a few years, and suddenly someone puts a smooth lighting filter over my old stomping grounds and calls it a 'modern indie homage.' [TRAILER VOICE] Wait... Lara?! How did you get into Unity 6? LARA CROFT: Darling, I’ve navigated literal space-time distortions, I think I can handle a basic engine upgrade. But let’s be entirely honest here. A tank top? Cargo pants? Shimmying along ledges in a dusty old tomb while dodging swinging blades? The only thing missing is a butler trapped in a walk-in freezer and me doing a handstand on a ledge just to show off. [TRAILER VOICE] Hey, now! Hold on a second! This is a completely different artistic direction! The clean geometry! The cozy, sensory-friendly atmosphere! The complete lack of stress! It’s a peaceful, artistic excursion, Lara! You can't just claim ownership over every single dusty brick in the desert! LARA CROFT: Convenient way to say they didn't have the budget to code the raptors, love. Back in my day, if you didn't perfectly time a running jump, you didn't get a 'cozy, liminal moment'—you got impaled on a spike grid while a synthesizer blasted dramatic chords at you. This girl is just having a lovely, quiet stroll through my intellectual property. She even spawns right next to a hidden backpack in the desert! Literally, right at the start! Who leaves a secret there?! [TRAILER VOICE] It's subverting expectations! It rewards mindfulness! It's a short, bite-sized, fair-but-fun 15-minute indie banger, and frankly, the modern gaming audience appreciates not having to pull a lever underwater while on a two-minute oxygen timer! LARA CROFT: Fifteen minutes?! I spent three weeks trying to find a single rusty key in the Cistern! If you didn't suffer through the blocky tank controls, you haven't earned the right to call yourself a wanderer! [TRAILER VOICE] Tank controls are a relic of the past, Lara! The people want fluid movement! They want to jump without doing a three-step mathematical calculation first! We are staying right here and praising this game's gorgeous, minimalist aesthetic, and there is absolutely nothing you can— [SOUND EFFECT: LOUD RECORD SCRATCH] [SOUND EFFECT: GOOFY HOLLERING AND YELLING] "WHOOOOO-HOOOO-HOOOO-HOOOO!" [SOUND EFFECT: SERIES OF LOUD, CARTOON-STYLE CRASHING, BOOMING, AND SMASHING SOUNDS. METALLIC CLANGS, WOOD SPLINTERING, AND A SLIDESTHISTLE WHISTLE GOING DOWNWARDS.] [SOUND EFFECT: A FINAL, MASSIVE HOLLOW THUD... FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE, DEAD SILENCE.] [A long pause. The ambient desert wind loops quietly in the background.] [TRAILER VOICE] (Coughing, sounding completely rattled, voice shaking slightly) ...As I was saying... grab your controller... and get ready for a nostalgic trip down a very clean, very quiet memory lane. [Lara stands in the background, arms crossed, twirling a pixelated pistol with a massive, satisfied smirk on her face.] LARA CROFT: Oh, is that it then? Finished your little speech? Lovely. Now, step aside, voiceover man. [Lara walks right up to the camera lens, tapping it with the barrel of her gun.] LARA CROFT: Listen closely, players. If you're going to play this lovely, silent little 'tribute,' do me a favor. Don’t just sprint through the corridors looking at the pretty lighting. Turn around the second you spawn in the desert. Look behind the rocks. Check the geometric seams. There are five secrets, and if I find out you walked past the backpack at the entrance one more time, I’m bringing back the tank controls and locking you in the gym. [TRAILER VOICE] (Whispering from off-camera) Hey, you can't just threaten the players! This is a low-stress environment! LARA CROFT: (Turning sharply) Oh, I can and I will. A little stress builds character. Tell me, voiceover man, does this 'mindful wanderer' even know how to swan dive off a cliff into three inches of water? [TRAILER VOICE] No, because she has basic survival instincts! And she doesn't need to carry eighty-seven small medipacks in an invisible pocket! LARA CROFT: Please, those medipacks were vintage. And what about her dual pistols? Where are they? How am I supposed to shoot aggressively at a brick wall to see if it makes a hollow sound? [TRAILER VOICE] She doesn't shoot walls, Lara! She looks at them! With her eyes! It's called environmental storytelling! LARA CROFT: Environmental storytelling? Right. 'Once upon a time, there was a completely bare, orange room.' Riveting narrative, that. [TRAILER VOICE] It's peaceful! It's artistic! Look at the reflection on the floor! LARA CROFT: I admit, the floor is quite shiny. I could practically use it to check my makeup, if my face had more than twelve polygons. [Lara breaks character for a second, looking back out at the beautifully lit, smooth orange ruins behind her. She lowers her guns and lets out a soft, appreciative sigh.] LARA CROFT: But... I suppose I must give credit where it’s due. It really is quite wonderful, isn’t it? No giant mutant bats screaming in your ears, no T-Rex bursting through the walls to give you a heart attack, and best of all... absolutely zero inventory micromanagement. Honestly, just wandering around a tomb without my health bar constantly blinking red is practically a spa day. Immersive, beautifully tranquil, and I don't even have to look at my own sharp, triangular edges in the mirror. [She turns back to the camera with a cheeky wink.] LARA CROFT: Imitation is the highest form of flattery, after all. And darling? My classic style looks absolutely brilliant in Unity 6. Go on, enjoy your little walkabout. [She holsters her weapons with a sharp, synchronized CLACK, gives a polite nod, and turns around to perform a perfectly rigid, 90-degree tank turn before leaping off the screen.] STARRING: NOT LARA CROFT — As the protagonist who clearly shopping-spreed at the exact same tactical surplus store. A HIDDEN BACKPACK — As the secret item that actively gaslights you by existing exactly where you spawn. UNITY 6 — As the miracle engine capable of turning a retro stress-inducer into an absolute sensory paradise. LARA CROFT — As the strictly metaphrical elephant in the room who is honestly just glad she doesn't have to dodge wolves today. THE RUIN WANDERER (Rated C for Cozy, Clean, and 'Seriously, check behind you at the spawn point.')
Fun little adventure romp. Would like to see this as a 2-3 hour game. Recommend.
