A 2D Action Platformer
https://youtu.be/sp6wshreXAQ + Visually the game looks great with some very detailed levels / environments. + A variety of weapons to kill enemies (skeletons) including mines, a grenade launcher, flamethrower, and pistols - No options menu, no full screen support, and no ability to change the resolution. You must play in a small window. - Levels are very short with no real objective besides get to the other side - The story writing has some grammar issues making it difficult to read / understand at times - It is a bit too easy to die, especially considering enemies will be shooting you from a distance, and you take fall damage. (There really should not be fall damage in a platformer...) - When you shoot you can not move, so it becomes more or less a duel to see who dies first. ~ Although not neccessary, it would have been nice to have controller support
This game had potential. The art direction is nice, but the game mechanics ruin the majority of the game itself. It's only redeeming value that allows the game to be played all the way through is Save States are enabled throughout the levels. I really don't understand why the Developer doesn't say the game has 20 levels with the 21st being a simple "Hey, here is your ship!" bonus. I was dreading the game by stage 8 and powered through just to see how long the game is. Took me two hours. I encountered no bugs/glitches, with several typos and grammatic errors as well as sentence structure problems (almost like this review; soz) Overall it's bland, frustrating, and drags on too long for what it currently offers in the levels provided. The opponents shoot farther than the player with their projectiles, so every fight is the player sneaking up on the enemy, shooting once or twice and running away as the monster shoots overpowered projectiles. There are several areas in the game that are designed for the player to lose health, such as enemies having short walkways so you can't setup traps and can't run past them to climb up ladders, forcing a shootout. Also, quite a few troll spots in the game where hidden levels are enabled by jumping on blocked shutes, but the majority of the time, they just drop you far enough to lose health on landing. Once again, thank goodness the game has save states. Speaking of the saving grace known as Save States, weapons do random damage, meaning sometimes this one robot that does 30 damage out of your 100 health in 1 second can take 3 grenades instead of 2 and if they need 3, you'll lose about 20 health. Finally, you can only climb ladders when not moving, making it even harder to avoid enemies. Initially I was wondering why it took 2-3 seconds to start climbing ladders until I noticed that.
Nice game, it have some challenging levels, they put good attention on visual details in the game to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7Rp1I3-MEQ
Hi! My name's Sasha Zenko. I'm from Belarus. I am making hardcore letsplay videos handsfree (using only my chin). I have a program that allows me to assign keyboard controls to mouse movements. I play your game. It's very good. I like it. Watch me playing your game without hands here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iyU0Qr-Wm4
Follow our Curator Group for more reviews
Max Stern is an action platformer that is difficult in an annoying, frustrating way, rather than a fun, challenging way. The core of the game is a generic platformer, but it is layered with a combat and health system that make it much less fun than it could have been. Fall damage is generally nonexistent in platformers, but for whatever reason, it makes an appearance in Max Stern. The combat system involves you shooting skeletons, but they also have weapons to fire back at you. In open areas, combat is easy and boring, but in enclosed rooms you are almost guaranteed to get hit once. This, when combined with fall damage, makes the game mostly about finding health. There is no health regeneration, so you need to find small amounts of 10 or 20 health, but a fall is 20 health on its own. It has a minor plot to it, but it's pretty weak and isn't really the focus of the game. The puzzles are pretty simplistic and uninteresting. Overall, Max Stern doesn't really have any highlights, it generally ranges from awful to mediocre, but never becomes fun. 1/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
So this is definitely yes, as far as my preferences are concerned. I find the graphic part just amazing, the surroundings are very detailed. It seems that I can hear the grass rustling. The main hero is cool too. Unfortunately, Max can't shoot while running, that would for sure make the game more dynamic. Anyway, I found it ok just to aim more accurately and use some sort of stealth tactics to kill the enemies. The enemies are very funny, though not clever, and again it would be very fine if they could chase Max or shoot while walking. But still they can make your life hard enough, if you aren't careful. Finally, it was nice to watch a short movie at the end of the game. And again I want to say that the graphic part is just great. The game worth its price.
