I really enjoyed this game, proper classic, amazing quotes also. And the story was awesome; the game wasn't great without mods; you could tell it's aged graphics-wise I was getting game freezes/JPEG errors and no sound. That's without the mod/add on after I installed the graphics mod, the full version that the community recommended, the graphics were awesome, the sound worked, and everything else. Max Payne fix pack: I would recommend it to fix no sound or JPEG errors or freezes if you're getting those issues. Go for the full add-on fix pack, not the other one, because when I used the other one, it didn't fix my issues until I used the full version add-on.
incredibly goated game just get a patch for cutscene audio, resolution if you're on 1440p and difficulty unlocks

Dreams have a nasty habit of going bad when you're not looking.
Grand Theft Auto III atmosphere (so a 10/10 atmosphere) but the gameplay is also blended to be quite linear in a manner similar to DOOM 1993 that works in it's favour. The game is really satisfying to play and the difficulty is just perfect, especially when the game decides to automatically make the game harder. Puzzles are not too hard and not too easy. 10/10 game, 7/10 difficulty for the base difficulty. 8/10 gunplay (gunplay is unique). Bullet time feels like a blend of the Matrix and the Dark Passenger. You need to unlock harder difficulties and I have not beaten the game yet on those higher difficulties.
I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains. P.S: you'll need to download a 3rd party patch mod. This game has not been updated for modern PCs in years and it's not going to be. Mod fixed it and it plays like a charm.

It's a good game, must have been a blast back in early 2000s, but it hasn't aged as well as other older games like Gothic, FEAR etc. I found it very mid playing it for the first time in 2026
