This version lacks the typing "games" which you may remember and be likely wanting to nostalgically revisit. Alternatively, if you're an experienced typist or even proficient player of video games you'll set your standard assessment level to somewhere around 85wpm with 99% accuracy. This translates into the impish Mavis demanding from you a 91wpm with 98% accuracy for a "passing" grade on the application's series of exams. I suppose if you've any children or family members who share your account with you, the application could prove useful. However, I'd guess that for many of us, we're quite fine and dandy without the aid of Ms. Beacon. Requires an installation of Apple's Quicktime.
Truly terrible. Don't get it. I foolishly thought this was going to be an upgrade from the 2011 Ultimate Edition. But it's a huge downgrade
I spelt Disaster wrong and she shouted at me :(((((
Overpriced. In just the first 5 minutes of use it is clear that this is awkwardly implemented software. Its look and feel is very primitive as though it was designed for Win95 and never migrated to later Win versions. When it starts it insists on opening up in full screen mode (there is no control for this). You are required to install Quicktime 7 to run the software to view the over voiced animations (no actual videos so far). There is no pause for the audio or video. If while a video is playing you change focus to another window the audio will be chopped (but not the video) so you have to restart the video. No doubt, every game on steam is considerably more complex yet better written and more bug free than MBTTFE. While I am glad that Steam is providing software titles like this, I wish another typing title had been chosen. Considering the price I can not recommend MBTTFE.
Unfortunetly this product requiers quick time. since apple no longer supports quicktime for PC this product is not for PC users.
No controller support.
It's plain text, no game. The old version used to be way better due to the games we had to play to pass levels. But now they changed everything and removed these games. I do not recommend it.
Great for helping your typing skills in terms of speed and accuracy. Includes a bunch of tests and evaluations that monitors your typing habits, and offers helpful hints or solutions to correct or adjust your keyboarding posture. If you're in a job, or looking for a job where you're sitting at a desk and using the computer most of the time then this software is more than worth it to aid you in your quest for keyboarding domination!
Excellent for covering the basics of typing and how to position yourself for increased precision and speed.
Of all the games and application I have in my steam library this one really takes the cake. At first I was worried about the massive 512mb ram requirement and was unsure I would be able to run the application. However this did not end up being an issue. Once you do launch Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Family Edition you will be pleasantly suprised to how well it works. It doesn't feel as though they are holding your hand as you progress from learning how to use correct posture to your home row and beyond. This application is also great for many advanced users who want to increase their speed while having fun doing it! The only real con I can think of was my disappointment when I found at Mavis Beacon is not a real person and is just made up. In fact is she was real she would be like 90, talk about gross. Anyways I can not recomend this game enough buy it if you were thinking about it.
