Summary
A very different point and click game focusing very heavily on story and dialogue more akin to a interactive story book. Pros + Interesting story + Different Cons - Mostly dialogue - Less point and click more story book
Overview
Mata Hari is an older point & click narrative that focuses far more on telling its fictional story based on the real life person Mata Hari, a Dutch dancer that gained popularity in Paris for her exotic dancing. The game is pretty simple as a point & click with short bouts of puzzles and it focuses very hard on story telling instead of the gameplay, due to being so heavy on dialogue the game also becomes very long from all the talking. The story itself is rather interesting as it shows a more realistic nitty gritty world of espionage with less of the fancy spy movie stuff we are accustomed to. It may be very boring to many as there's just mostly dialogue and also very different to those accustomed to point & click games with the scarcity of puzzles where many are instead solved through talking. I can say the puzzles themselves are actually quite good and some are also challenging. Other than a few puzzles there are also some dancing mini games that I found to be simple and kind of annoying albeit different, they aren't that important to the story at large and just cements more of the character and could even be skipped. Only pick this up if you wish to have more of an interactive story book than an actual point & click game. Epic game au revoir.
Dancing shadows, spy jokes, and graphics that sparkle like fireworks at midnight. I’m thrilled and can’t stop playing this adventure!
vždy zpřístupnila i možnost rychlého přesunu bez minihry
A kupodivu, ten potřebný hovor stále probíhá. Akorát mi to přišlo celé takové statické. [6/10]
I was given a free key for this game. Mata Hari is a pretty good game, not the best but definitely not the worst. I will say that the travel system can be quite annoying at times, it's starts as a puzzle until you get a bit further into the game then you get basically a fast travel. The puzzles are pretty simple for the most part and the story is decent. I can recommend it for the point and click adventurers out there but..... For a 15 year old game though I personally don't think it should be 10$ anymore though. Definitely wait for a sale.

It's good.
A hidden gem point and click game. This game works 100% on "Windows 10". and plays like Syberia or Art of Murder series. I highly recommend playing this game on a Touch Pad due to the dancing part which is impossible to beat, but can be skipped. THE GAME IS SUPPOSEDLY BASED ON A TRUE STORY ABOUT "MATA HARI" WHO WAS FORCED TO BECOME A FRENCH SPY BEFORE WORLD WAR 1, but not entirely historically accurate. In a walk through it says there are different endings depending on the amount of Wealth, Spycraft, and Skills you get at the end of Chapter 4. Do not worry about getting Skill or Wealth. You can farm them later before Chapter 4. FIXES Make sure you download this Directx on your computer if the game would not start. Many people had a problem running the game due to not having the right directx in the forum. https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=8109 TIPS & TRICKS SPYCRAFT The maximum Spycraft is "1000" finding hidden papers and doing secret objectives. You can get it finished by Chapter 3. If you haven't gotten it already you have done something wrong. You are not required to max it or get any of it. SKILL The maximum Skill is "10000". It doesn't really effect the game other than ending supposedly. You can farm it by going back and forth between "Monaco" and "Paris station" in Chapter 3 as they are the easiest stations. Otherwise you can just keep using express routes after talking to all the spies in the train stations. DANCE / WEALTH The maximum Wealth is $14000. Wealth does nothing other than effecting ending of the game. Don't worry about dancing part as there is a "red flashing button" that come out at the top right corner of the screen for you to skip but you will not get any wealth. You can farm the wealth by repeating the dances after you collect all 12 inspiration dances. You are not forced to try and beat all the dances at maximum points. This is why I recommend this game using touch pad because if you want to see all the dance properly they are designed for Touchpad mode. INSPIRATION FOR DANCES I highly recommend collecting all the inspirations before Chapter 4. There is no time limit or way on how you collect them. Just keeping going back to Astruc to get inspiration. The Inspiration locations for dances in the entire game are the following: - Paris, theatre: clouds (aeroplane) - Paris, theatre: barrel organ - Paris, English embassy: fountain 1 - Paris, English embassy: fountain 2 - Paris, train station: umbrella - Paris, train station: locomotion smoke - Paris, Malbec's house: birds - Berlin, train station: locomotion steam - Berlin: cyclist - Monaco: clouds (balloon) - Madrid: fountain - Madrid: juggler This game is not difficult it is straight up puzzle solving, it is closer to Art of Murder with real world objectives on how a spy would do back in those days which is quite educational at the same time.
