Nancy Drew®: Warnings at Waverly Academy

Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy is the 21st in the series. In this one, Nancy goes undercover at a prep school to figure out which of the students has been threatening her classmates under the alias "the Black Cat." The mystery starts out somewhat interesting, as you get to know the other students and try to figure out who the black cat might be, although the characters are a little annoying and stereotypical. I got bored in the middle. The other characters stay in the same place all day and you spend a lot of time wandering between them, doing their homework and running errands for them, with a little bit of investigating mixed in. The mystery picks up again toward the end of the game. The culprit did end up surprising me, although the motive seemed pretty weak and I wasn't very satisfied with the ending. To investigate the mystery, you talk to the other students, solve puzzles, and play minigames. The puzzles were challenging, and I ended having to look up a couple of answers. One puzzle was timed, which just made it really irritating to try to solve. I also got stuck on a couple of things that were just easy to overlook. I didn't like the minigames very much. The snack shop was particularly annoying, since you have to play it once per in-game day (which makes a really annoying chore when you're cycling between day and night trying to figure out where you're stuck). Every time you open the game, it starts reading the tutorial. You can click into your save game or start a new game right away, but it would have been nice if it only started during new games. I also had a bug where something disappeared from my inventory and I had to reload an older save. Overall, I didn't end up liking Warnings at Waverly Academy. I liked the setup, parts of solving the mystery, and some of the puzzles, but most of the game felt dull and repetitive. 4/10

The game itself, I LOVE. I've played almost all the Nancy Drew games and I replay them constantly. What I hate is that it's almost unplayable due to the screen flashing in my face like a rave at every dialogue screen or whenever I have my inventory open. I've played this game on CD before, (before I had a Steam account), so this is some sort of weird bug with Steam? It flashes in my face until I exit out of those screens. If I had epilepsy, I wouldn't be able to boot up the game. It's really really bad and hurts my eyes. I hope Steam can do something to fix this, it also was pretty bad in the Shadow At the Water's Edge Nancy Drew game I just finished, but it wasn't to this extreme. This hasn't happened to me with any other Steam games, just the Nancy Drew ones.

I have enjoyed many Nancy Drew games over time, but this one just ain't it, if you like to play an errand girl simulator this is the game for you. The minigames themselves range from passable to brain dead to "what do you want from me game?" The photography stuff is just a time wasting annoyance, same with the Snack Shop. They are fun for a bit but it gets old very fast. I did sadly not have a good time playing through this game. There is many other, better Nancy drew games out there. If you want a school setting, Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill is a great game. Thanks for reading!

this is the second nancy drew game i have played and i really liked it :) i really enjoyed going around and talking to the characters. the puzzles were quite easy and the game was short, but i still think the game was a lot of fun and i like the concept. a fun game if you want to play detective for a day!

Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy is in my top 5 favorite HER Nancy Drew games. The atmosphere is fun, intriguing, and the puzzles are unique and well placed. I played on senior level and it was fairly easy to keep track of what to do. When in doubt, search the topic on the school's library computer, there's probably a book you need to borrow. You, as Nancy Drew, go undercover at an all girls prep boarding school to figure out who is sabotaging the senior valedictorian candidates as they are in a race to the top of their class. The characters are great, and the voice acting in this game is better than others. Nancy is roped in to completing homework assignments and helping out with projects throughout the game as she investigates. Even the side games are enjoyable and not too repetitive. The underlying history mystery with Edgar Allen Poe is spooky and fun. The soundtrack sets a great background to your quest, and I love that the scenery outside the school gradually gets colder and snowy as the mystery reaches its peak. The characters remain static throughout most of the game, there's no real variation in their placement or schedule. All in all, wonderful addition to the HER Nancy Drew series, I will return and play this one again.

This ND game is a personal favorite of mine. I just really enjoy the boarding school setting, the creepy vibes, the weird students, and working at the cafeteria. I seriously don't understand what it is about ND games in which you have to serve food, but it instantly boosts my rating and enjoyment of the game. Love this one!!
