overall a pretty good map builder. like most map builders this is more i want out of this but it is simpler to handle then most I've come across. It lands in the middle between the advanced map drafting software and the simple clip art maps.
I purchased Master of Realms about a year and a half ago, paying a significantly higher price than what it is being sold for now. Since then, the experience has been disappointing. The product has faced ongoing delays, and even after all this time, it still lacks the square grid option, which was the main reason I decided to buy it in the first place. It’s frustrating to support a project early, only to see key promised features missing while the price drops for new customers. At this point, it feels like early supporters have been overlooked. I cannot recommend this product in its current state, especially given the missing functionality and the way pricing has been handled.
Decent tool with a lot of potential, few issues, first is lighting control, I'm trying to run darker maps, hard to immerse when map doesn't match my description. Second, exporting is abyssmal. Dnd file size limitations are to blame for sure, but exporting at 5 mb as my only option to comply with dnd beyond leaves me with an extremely blurry map with tags you can't read. I unfortunately have to stick with Wonderdraft and Dungeon Alchemist until this is resolved. But I wanna say this is a half assed decent map generator, and it does deserve a second opinion. So I'll check it out again later. EDIT: Preface for dev response they care and that matters to me. I will recommend this if you are using foundry or other VTTs that are less restricting than dnd beyond. It took me 2 hours to make a decent world map in this software, it took 5 hours in wonderdraft with similar levels of detail and less assets for the same map(I'm cheap, hence why I use dungeon alchemist).
As far as a mapmaking software for 3D printing, I guess the value is well worth it for the STL files, but if you intend to make maps to export and use on VTTs it's not worth the purchase as it stands currently. There is basically no weather variants so far, only green and desert, no snowy variants, dry variants for that autumn look, cursed variants, also there are no hexes for hills, The software is really neat, and it's really quick in making decent looking things with the tiles currently available. For whoever reads this review, the software is well worth following, but I'd wait until it has enough content to justify it's purchase. I've bought it, I like it, but I can't make much use of it in it's current state. Edit: The team has updated the game, and now it comes with a weather effect pannel, which was one of the features I deemed necessary, I'd still suggest some improvements to this feature, to be able to apply weather to specific regions. But the improvement in itself is commandable and it shows the integrity of the team to follow up with the project.
i really enjoy building maps for my D&D game from larger 100x100 partial world maps to small intimate maps. i am still waiting on a lot more tiles to be made such as cliffs near water, or even different harbor tiles along with others i dont know i even need yet... ive played with the system for about 7 hours so far and i'm still learning.. the learning curve is not steep but you have to work with it and it can get more complex as you allow it and learn new functions of the program.. i'm happy i bought this and did the kickstarter for it. Still needs more improvement but from what i have its nice.
Wonderful little set of tools here. And very user friendly. Very cool so far. Haven't tried printing yet. Will update when I do.
I backed this on Kickstarter and finally got around to redeeming the code and installing the game. I’ve only had a brief look so far, but I already love it. I used Wonderdraft before, but these maps look far more beautiful. I’m going to spend some time getting used to the controls, which already feel quite intuitive and pleasant to use. Edit: The controls are great but i fight with placing the walls correct as soon as three lines meet it other. It is in an early access if they add more tiles and effects it will be a great software.
