Such a delightful little game. I stumbled on this by accident, and I’m so glad I did. I spent more time with this game than most triple a games. It’s beautifully thought out and made. If you like pixel art graphics, challenging roguelikes, and retro inspired games. Try this one out.

Mana Spark is such a gem, I wish we had more roguelikes like this. Short and sweet with a lovely soundtrack
I loved Nova Lands and decided to check this out. Mana Spark is a fun game. It's scope is much smaller than a game like Issac or Neon Chrome. There aren't as many items, environments or variety in enemies. I myself appreciate the focused scope of the game though. I feel like the developer made extra sure that the content they could include was impactful and didn't have any filler. The gameplay is fun and responsive. I don't ever recall feeling like I died to "some bs". The characters are varied in their playstyle which adds some replay value. The items and how they work together are fun, but you won't be spending 40+ hours working on combos. The game isn't huge. What is included though is quite good. With the game not having much content I feel like $12 might be a bit high of a price. I personally think it's worth it, but with games like Issac being $15 with literally 10x the content, this can be a hard sell. Thankfully the game is often on sale. If there's one thing this game does well it's sound design. The sound design in this game is INSANELY good and it ties the experience of the game together. A lot of care went into all the atmospheric sound effects here, that stuff isn't easy. 8/10 game.
Simples e viciante, investi caro em um pc gamer pra isso
Relatively short and fun, and equally cheap; Not a ton to unlock, and the unlocks are relatively quick (or small puzzles). The story is kinda neat, though not particularly fleshed out or ground-breaking. Sound design and monster types are pretty basic but nice enough, though you'll start to feel the limitations pretty quickly (especially the first two bosses). Definitely not for everyone though, it's brutally unforgiving of even the smallest of mistakes in the second half; Some monsters can hit for as much as 3 full hearts of damage, in a game where you might only be starting with 2 total, can't get more than 1-2 more per item, and many of the items that increase your offense actually DECREASE your max hp. I managed to beat it with a max hp of like 5, so it's hardly impossible, but... I've also only beaten it precisely one time, using the character that has lots of pets to deal damage for her. Third boss second phase is... frustrating, because it's tanky and deals incredible damage with very short windows of opportunity to fight back for two of the four classes. Definitely no game of the year, but a competent game that I still had like 20 hours of fun with, and seems worth supporting a small developer.
Mana Spark is a top-down action roguelite developed by BEHEMUTT in collaboration with Kishimoto Studios and published by BEHEMUTT. Released on Steam in 2018, the game blends classic dungeon-crawling exploration with modern roguelite mechanics, emphasizing skill-based combat, procedural environments, and steady progression through repeated runs. Instead of relying on flashy abilities or overwhelming power-ups, Mana Spark builds its identity around deliberate gameplay where careful positioning, observation, and patience determine survival. The result is an experience that rewards players who take the time to study enemy behavior and gradually master the systems that govern its dangerous world. The story of Mana Spark takes place in a grim fantasy setting where humanity has long struggled against creatures empowered by the mystical energy known as Mana. While monsters and supernatural beings wield this energy naturally, humans possess only small traces of it, leaving them at a constant disadvantage. To survive, a small group of humans has established a hidden encampment deep within a forest, forming a resistance against the powerful creatures that dominate the land. Players take on the role of a warrior sent into the wilderness to collect Mana runes and confront the monsters that guard them. Though the narrative remains minimal and mostly serves as background context, it effectively frames the journey as a desperate struggle for survival and progress in a hostile world. Gameplay centers around exploring a procedurally generated dungeon environment that changes with every run. Each expedition sends the player into the forest and underground tunnels where rooms are arranged in new combinations, creating unpredictable layouts filled with enemies, traps, and valuable resources. The procedural structure ensures that no two runs feel exactly the same, encouraging players to adapt their strategies as they move deeper into the dungeon. Early rooms may introduce manageable encounters, but the deeper sections gradually increase in difficulty, culminating in intense boss battles that test the player’s understanding of the game’s mechanics. Combat in Mana Spark is methodical and precise, setting it apart from many other roguelites that emphasize fast-paced chaos. The primary weapon is a bow, and much of the gameplay revolves around aiming carefully, timing shots, and maintaining distance from enemies. Using twin-stick controls, players can move freely while directing their attacks in any direction, allowing for a tactical rhythm of dodging, positioning, and striking. Enemies exhibit distinct patterns and behaviors, meaning that blindly attacking is rarely effective. Instead, success often depends on studying how different monsters move, recognizing when they are vulnerable, and choosing the right moment to strike. This emphasis on enemy behavior creates a combat system that feels closer to a tactical puzzle than a traditional hack-and-slash experience. Some enemies charge aggressively toward the player, while others attack from range or attempt to surround their target. Learning how to manage these threats becomes essential, especially when multiple enemy types appear together. The game encourages players to manipulate the environment and enemy positioning, sometimes luring monsters into traps or isolating them one at a time to avoid being overwhelmed. These encounters demand patience and careful observation, rewarding players who approach each room strategically. Between dungeon runs, players return to a small survivor camp that serves as the game’s central hub. This camp gradually expands as players gather resources and unlock new services. Various characters living in the camp provide upgrades that help the player prepare for future expeditions. A researcher allows players to analyze enemy types and permanently weaken them using collected Mana runes, while a cook prepares meals that grant temporary bonuses such as increased attack power or improved stamina. A blacksmith manages equipment upgrades and sub-weapons that can assist during combat. Although each run resets most progress, these camp upgrades create a sense of gradual improvement that motivates players to continue exploring despite repeated failures. The progression system strikes a balance between permanent advancement and skill development. While upgrades provide helpful advantages, they do not overpower the core challenge of the game. Success ultimately depends on the player’s ability to read enemy patterns, manage resources, and maintain situational awareness. This design choice ensures that each victory feels earned through mastery rather than simple statistical upgrades. As players grow more familiar with the mechanics, previously overwhelming encounters become manageable, creating a satisfying sense of personal growth. Visually, Mana Spark uses a pixel-art style that evokes classic retro adventure games while maintaining a distinctive atmosphere. The environments are filled with forests, caves, and ruins rendered in muted colors that reinforce the bleak tone of the setting. Character animations are simple yet effective, providing clear feedback during combat without cluttering the screen. Despite the minimalist aesthetic, small environmental details help bring the world to life, such as flickering torches, destructible objects, and subtle lighting effects that highlight the dangers lurking within the dungeon. The sound design complements the game’s atmosphere with a restrained but effective approach. The soundtrack features ambient and melancholic themes that emphasize tension rather than constant intensity. During combat, the music remains subtle, allowing the sounds of arrows, footsteps, and enemy movements to take center stage. These audio cues play an important role in gameplay, helping players anticipate threats and react quickly to approaching enemies. The overall soundscape contributes to the feeling of exploring a dangerous and lonely wilderness. One of the most notable strengths of Mana Spark is how it encourages players to improve through experience rather than relying heavily on grinding for upgrades. Every encounter becomes a learning opportunity, and even failed runs often provide valuable insight into enemy behavior or dungeon layouts. This approach makes the game feel rewarding for players who enjoy challenging experiences where skill and persistence are key factors. However, the game’s focus on methodical combat and modest progression systems may not appeal to everyone. Some players may find the difficulty unforgiving, especially during the early hours when upgrades are limited and enemy patterns are unfamiliar. Others may wish for more variety in weapons or abilities to create additional gameplay diversity. Despite these limitations, the focused design ensures that the core mechanics remain tight and engaging throughout the experience. Overall, Mana Spark delivers a thoughtful and challenging roguelite adventure that prioritizes strategic combat and careful exploration over spectacle. Its procedurally generated dungeons, skill-driven gameplay, and atmospheric presentation combine to create a game that feels both tense and rewarding. While it may not offer the extensive content or elaborate systems found in some larger roguelike titles, its emphasis on mastery and deliberate gameplay gives it a distinctive identity. For players who enjoy dungeon crawlers that demand patience, observation, and tactical thinking, Mana Spark offers a compelling journey through a dark fantasy world where every encounter can mean the difference between survival and defeat.
