Master Reboot (2013)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=533953934

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=531641662

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=499710868

★★★☆☆
Level puzzle game with a nice horror atmosphere. Even though it's dated, it's a good game. The graphics aren't great but the levels are all different and well presented. Not suitable for everyone. My rating 7/10 to take at discount
Master Reboot.
You could argue it is unfair for me to give bad reviews to decade-old games because they will not let you rebind your keys, but like, this is not some sort of innovative feature that only came about recently. You have been able to rebind the keys you played games with since the early 1990s at least (source: I was alive and playing games in the early 1990s). What drives developers to this level of laziness? Do they think A) every keyboard layout internationally has W, A, S, and D in the exact same position? Or do they think B) everyone's hands are small enough that they use one finger per column? If there is a single accessibility issue I face as a large-handed man, it is how often keyboard innovation or expectations just infuriate me and make me change my behavior to avoid dealing with them.
The sound design is absolutely horrendous, the game relies on cheap audio jumpscares that are tripple the volume of the already unbearably loud game where you cant even separately change the volume level of for example sound effects, its all just mushed up in one audio level. The game is severely lacking in explanations, I'm not one to argue for games to hold your hand along the way but for gods sake, dont just throw the player into cold water and leave them wondering whether the game is bugged or not, because your game is incredibly unstable on top of it so its not very unlikely, considering your game crashes at the most simple steps regularly like interacting with a duck to look at a picture/the little HIDDEN story you got going on. Coming to the next point, why hide the story from the players in easily overlooked little interactables? I'm all here for the ducks, but at least give some core story in between so even if you do miss them, youre not just completely out of it and confused as to what is even happening. Besides that, give an option to save the game. If your game is so unstable, it crashes when faced with the most simple interactions, then give me the option to save my game in levels ffs. The amount of times you have to redo levels is actually unbearable, simply because your game is at an essentially unplayable state which isnt because of the hardware its played on, when even a top end PC has it crashing when I look at it from a certain angle bruh what even is that. All in all the game has so much potential, but laziness and incompetent game development with single to no thought going into the actual gameplay experience or at the very least game understanding. The story is confusing and heavily lacking the beginning middle and end part, which is about the only thing you gotta pay attention to - you had one job. The game itself is genuinely painful to play at times, when it gives you migraines from the cheap jumpscares and even hurts my eyes from all the flashing lights and overwhelming, not thought through visuals where it skips through images at a very fast rate where i dont even want to imagine what thats like for someone with a seizure history. The game doesnt fail at its age, where its understandable that some things are a bit wonkier than games published in 2024, it lacks in execution, reeks of laziness and of a good concept that got ruined in the making. Only play this game if you genuinely dont have anything else to play or like in my case, you just wanted the point shop emojis because youre not well in your head. It wasnt worth it.
Finished couple of "levels" and, so far, it hasn't aged too gracefully - the puzzles are just there, the visuals are drab, the story feels way too predictable and the tone is somehow even more pessimistic than SOMA (spoilers). Buy it only if you've got nothing else to play
No keyboard and mouse remapping. Very limited resolutions.
I feel like this shouldn't be listed as horror of any kind. I feel like i was a bit Jebaited. Just because it's dark and hard to see doesn't make it a horror game. (maybe if your very young it might be scary?) This isn't listed as a puzzle game but it VERY much is. Lots of platforming and puzzles. if your not into that then stay away. I found this uninteresting and a bit boring. It's not a bad game its just not for me. I'm recommending this, as it is an okay game, but it's not what i was expecting.
Quite a good game about discovering the truth of your life and discovering where you are. You are seemingly in a virtual afterlife ,but have no idea who you are or what is going on. Through enjoyable puzzles and light platforming, you recover your memories and discover the face of your adversary. It's quite a good game.
