MakeRoom

MakeRoom is so simple... So straightforward. I love using this software to put together settings for my creative writing projects, to think about what a space might look like and also make sense realistically. There are so many assets, some of them ridiculously cute (especially the critters.) it plays great on Steam Deck too. It has absolutely earned that 'Cozy' tag.

An absolutely adorable little game with lots of customization, and still getting updates and new items! From all the house- and room-building games, this one must be my favourite purely because of the style and how much freedom I have while building my rooms. Another reason is, that sure, there are some base scenarios to take you through the game and get a feel for it, but even afterwards the game helps you stay engaged and inspired through daily prompts and even random prompts, whenever you want. As someone who finds it hard to find goals and motivation with so much freedom, this one aspect really kept me coming back and pushing myself to create something new, something different, and in styles I didn't expect I would be building.

Ok so there's a bunch of these apps floating around now. This might be the actual goat. It does have limitations as all of these will, but what makes it so cool is how much you can customize it. There's an editor and you can make pretty much whatever assets you can imagine within the basic confines of the engine. And then there is the workshop, and the ability to export. And it is a pleasure to use. Look in the workshop. Game/app is a great value and I am happy I got this.

This is such a cute game, it really helpful for designing just about any room imaginable. Give or take having to make certain furniture or think out side of the box to make furniture. I've been using this game to help with backgrounds to draw characters in, works like a charm <3

For something cozy, relaxing, and care-free, MakeRoom is a perfect cup of tea with a warm blanket. The mechanics are intuitive and easy to understand, the music is soothing, the wide-range of elements to put together a perfect room is great.
