Majestic Nights is an episodic action-adventure-thriller set in an alternate 1980s where all conspiracy theories, past and present are True. It’s the bright and brash 1980s; a world crammed with hidden intrigue and sinister plots, government cover-ups and alien sightings, CIA experiments and the Truth.

Having played through the chapters available at the time this review was written (seasons 0 through 2), I have to say that Majestic Nights scratches all the itches I expected. While the graphics are not great (but more than adequate) and the gameplay is a bit sketchy at times (but not aggravating), the theme is great. You are a renegade secret agent (or a detective, depending on the season) that gets knee-deep in the world of conspiracy facts (rather than theory). In short, let's just say that if you grew up in the 80s and experienced the best the Internet had to offer in the early to mid 90s, you'll feel right at home. If you didn't, there are in-game dossiers that will bring you up to speed without being too lengthy. Speaking about the writing, not only is it great but there are different conversational ways (non-evident most of the time) of accomplishing objectives, which warrants replayability, kind of a big deal for a game that's not too long at the moment. The music is spot-on for the atmosphere of the game (in the style of 80s synthwave revival) and is included with the game at no extra cost, in MP3 and FLAC - bonus points for a game when so many others sell the OST separately. UPDATE (22/4/2018): Changed the review to negative. The last news about this game were that the next chapter's production had begun two years ago, and there is no end in sight, so it is very likely that this series will never be completed. The existing chapters and soundtrack are worth it, if you can get them at a good price, but avoid buying the season pass.
Surprisingly enough, vaporwave is actually one of the lesser offenses here.
I can imagine the "idea guy" responsible for this project feverishly jotting down three items on a piece of paper "-paid episodic -vaporwave -conspiracy theories" Then, satisfied with himself, he probably outsourced the actual design to scandinavian hipsters, and the programming to a team of semi competent third-world coders, who all did what they could with this directionless, scenario-less mess of a concept... This is barely a game, you are either stuck in phases where you have to click on items/characters in the correct order to advance the episode, or some kind of failed combat mode that doesn't know if it wants to be a stealth game or a terminator simulator. I will not even mention the scenario, just that I have seen some more complex writing in some facebook memes. There also seems to have been some kind of embezzlement happen with the "season pass", so don't buy the season pass at any cost. One of the most shameful products you can find on Steam. Majestic Nights is an abandoned/incomplete 3D rendered isometric adventure/action/interactive novel hybrid. With a strong 1980s vibe, the two (out of 6 planned before they abandoned it) stories consist of chasing down conspiracy theories. It's an unusual concept for a game, but it checks out. The problem of course is that the game was abandoned, it's clunky and unpolished, the dialogue is badly written. Whatever potential this had is wasted by the lacklustre delivery. I can't recommend this one.
The game has low ratings. But for some reason I liked it. Especially the destruction of enemies. Inexplicable.
Not really sure how this game got to my library in the first place, but it did. The fact that it's unfinished and would probably never be is a downer, of course, but when such games are already on my library I do not mind giving them a try anyway. While this game seems like it could be a part of a promising product, even the released content is highly clunky and feels unfinished and rough around the edges. For this, I didn't really have the patiend and gave up on what felt to me like 2\3 of chapter one. It's a real shame, because the writing is relatively ok, the story seems like to could go to interesting places, the characters look potentially intriguing, graphics look nice and combat seems like it COULD be fun. But it all doesn't really come to full relization. I would still give it thumbs up even with being incomplete product, if at least the playable parts were good enough, but unfortunately they feel unfinished as well, as I mentioned. Also, the full price also seems quite steep for the amount of contet you get (counting the "prologue" chapter, the game has 3 playable chapters and I believe each can be finished in around an hour or so).
