mid gameplay feels decent and speedrunner esque, but game is really short and I have no desire to replay all the levels again to get gold after getting all the collectables
I don't know what I was expecting with a game about a mole, but being underground at all times unless you jump makes the game a bit awkward to control at times. I wish there was a dedicated button for the jump rush since the timing is a bit rough with the regular dash button, especially if you decide to go for gold medals or do the harder races. Some of the levels that races are on also don't really seemed to be designed with racing in mind like Yeti Ridge with its arsenal of weapons or Spooky Swamp with its disappearing bridges that you have to wait for them to reform. It would also be nice if the game recognized my PS4 controller, but it won't accept any inputs at all with that for some reason. Most games at least let you use it with Xbox prompts, but this one won't. Thankfully I had a Switch Pro controller, but not even letting people use a PS4 controller in a platformer at all is unacceptable for a game released in 2021. If you're in a mood for a good platformer, there's better stuff out there.
A cute game with a surprising amount of content and a very simple, kid-friendly story and mechanics. Has some decent speed run oppertunities but a pain to aim for 100%, had to give up on it.
Very fun
game is good!
A lovely and charming platformer! It's fun to control even with a keyboard (the XBox controller is compatible too, though), with short and fun levels, 4 level each world. I like the artstyle of the worlds a lot, though the characters look quite weird. Every level is fun to play, I don't think any level has frustrated me in any way! Every level is very short, but they're really fun to try and speed through, especially with the controls that can the little mole really quite fast! The 'Xpress Delivery Expansion gives us 8 new Express levels, which are by far my favorite. They're fast, can be challenging and are really fun! :) Both the Mystery Mansion DLC and the Lost Presents DLC are quite short, but they're also free! Mystery Mansion gives you small yet fun challenges, the Lost Presents DLC gives you different level in a winter setting with lots of presents to collect! :) The game took me aroun 9 Hours to complete, everything collected, though I still need the Boss Rush and the Arcade races. For this game it's a perfect length, it's not too short nor does it overstay its welcome. There is one unfixed Bug in the Lost Presents DLC, booting you out of the DLC, which however can be avoided by using an empty save file. Overall I'd definitely recommend Mail Mole! I had lots of fun playing it! :)
overall rating: 4/10 idk why on earth this isn't advertised as a game that is for speedrunners, because it is genuinely impossible to 100% or do ALL the collectibles (which, are literally just 2 things from what i saw, turnips and gold medals - the turnips are fine, the gold medals are not, not counting the outfits here) without a speedrunner mindset. the rest of the game was fine in the time i played, level design seemed a bit dull at the start, graphics are not great and character designs ugly besides the mole, but it was... fine? other than one major issue: horribly clunky controls, i don't mind speedy games but when the controls are so terrible, it's unplayable to me when i aim for 100% on most 3d platformers. people good with weird, clunky movement or pro maneuvering for speed would probably enjoy this but i just couldn't deal with it, especially when the gold medals are required as a collectible. i guess it's good for some people but if you prefer less stressful games with better controls this one is not it, there's better 3d platformer/collectathon games out there.
It's an uninspiring platformer at its base, and its core mechanics are particularly unfun to engage with. The idea that you're tunnelling while you're moving and that your jumps are you emerging above the ground sounds fun in principle, but the end result is a platformer where your hitbox is very unclear and the jumping is frustratingly unresponsive. The level design also just completely fails to take advantage of the interesting elements of the mechanics, as well as being visually dull.
Very charming and fun 3D platformer in the Mario 3D Land vein.
