I've played more early access games with more polish. At least they warned me first... Lodventure is a crafting survival game priced at nearly $20 (CAD), marketed as a full release. Based on my first hour, most systems felt incomplete. The mechanics functioned, but lacked the depth, clarity, and finish expected at this stage. Movement and camera were serviceable, though the top-down view made immersion difficult. Combat was simple and quickly became repetitive. Boars followed the same pattern: attack twice, back off, repeat. There was no variation or sense of danger. After a few encounters, the survival loop lost any tension. Food and fatigue systems existed but had little impact. Boars respawned constantly, did not attack unless provoked, and provided enough meat to cover all hunger needs. Within minutes, food management stopped feeling like a meaningful system. Sleeping restored fatigue but did not advance time, so nighttime gameplay could not be skipped. When I crafted a sword, the game auto-equipped a shield. There was no explanation or control for it, and I could not find a way to block. It remained visually present but served no functional purpose. The tutorial also failed to recognize items I had already collected before reaching its prompt, forcing me to drop and pick them up again just to progress. The user interface was functional but visually unrefined. In particular, the tutorial text in the top-left corner lacked background or contrast, making it difficult to read against bright environments. The building system was the one area that stood out. Placement was intuitive, snapping worked well, and the process was easy to understand. It was the only system that felt complete and responsive during my session. Lodventure may appeal to players looking for a relaxed, linear survival loop with low pressure. But based on what I experienced in the first hour, it lacked the feedback, progression, and mechanical depth expected from a finished release. Final Rating: 4/10 It works. That is the most I can say.
I wasn't sure about this title; waited for a sale. That being said, I still paid too much, and would try for a refund if it were possible. Specifics: Graphics are lacking, but that's obvious from the store. Boredom set in about midway through the 1st map. Aside from dungeon bosses, there're no challenges. Billed as 1-4 player, I played solo, only the final boss has stopped me due to some mechanics. Currently, there's no matchmaking for finding a party. Developer Discord invite has expired, while other contact methods appear to have had no activity for a long time. Suspect this is dead and abandoned. Crafting does exist, but it's largely worthless aside from weapons, armor, and healing items, so builders would likely feel ripped off. Combat gets tedious fast; started running past everything once I had all the combat upgrades. Story exists, but it needed fleshing out; possibly incomplete. No replayability, avoid this one and get something else.
Chill game, but too slow for me. I'm sure others could find some time and value out of it, but not me. Requested a refund.
I've never been a huge fan of top down games, but will say this one seems to offer quite a bit to it. From the exploring to the combat and all in between, it was a lot of fun and a very cool game. I liked how it looked, the game play was smooth and extremely user friendly tbh even for someone who doesn't find an appeal to top down games. So huge props to the devs for peaking my interest and trying something new :) Highly suggest to anyone who finds these top down, survival style games to be your kind of jam, to try this one out for sure.
I'm only five hours in, and I have to say—Lodventure is shaping up to be a serious grind fest. The gameplay loop feels like an endless cycle of collecting resources just to repair your constantly breaking gear. That might be tolerable if there were meaningful progression, but the skill system is incredibly underwhelming. You earn skill points, allocate them into different abilities, and... nothing really changes. The skills feel almost cosmetic—like fake skills. Whether you put points into mining, combat, or anything else, the result feels exactly the same. There's no real sense of power growth or satisfaction. On top of that, the game just feels shallow. There's a core idea here that could be fun, but it desperately needs a deeper, more impactful skill tree—something that actually makes you excited to level up and experiment with builds. As it stands now, Lodventure is too repetitive and lacking in meaningful progression to keep my interest. If you’re looking for a satisfying loop of grind and reward, this one doesn’t quite deliver.
It's good enough, but there's no way this game is 1.0. It's super bare bones.
