I choose this game as the first VR experience for my father who is a Navy Veteran, trained on the Missouri in Korean war, and is 85 years old. He was amazed at how accurate everything on the ship was and absolutely loved it. He had no issues at at all, was very comfortable for a 30 minute tour of the ship, so that says alot at his age for the smoothness of the experience. Running 6 level quality on a gtx 1080. He also adapted quickly to the movement mechanism, very natural. So we've only tried 1 ship so far but can highly recommend this game for others with a knowledge or love of these vessels.... Well done.
Very realistic on the outside. I loved firing the guns. Can you model the inside? I'd like to see the Titanic, and the inside of it, be able to walk through it (as well as the queen mary). Heck I'd even like to see a cruise ship inside and outside. Can you add fish to the water? Can you put the ship on a map location? Maybe I'm asking for too much...
A nice experience if you like ships and/or model ships. It would also be a good general experience to introduce people to VR, who might be intimitated by shooters and other more complicated simulations. An interesting collection of ships. The movement system is intuitive and smooth. I especially like the ability to make myself "life size" by zooming down to the deck of a ship, and then have it fire its guns. Watching it do it from "model" size afterwards, gives you a good sense of perspective. The water is very well rendered and things looked well in both the default graphics setting, as well as the "5" setting that I am using it on. As interesting as it is, I'd like to see more features that would give it longer "replay value" (weather options/conditions?). I'm not sure what yet, but it lacks a little of the "fun factor" (fire torpedoes or missles on sub?). Regardless of the above, it is enoyable to play with, and the video gives you a very good idea of what you are buying. If you like what you see in the intro video, you will like the experience.
It's not a bad experience, but there isn't much in it. You can fly around the exterior of things that look like real ships but the scale is off and a lot appears to be missing. There are areas where it looks like a detail or feature was added to be explored but it ends up being a blank square. It is interesting to be able to see the ships from a distance, but if you actually fly towards them, the experience starts to lose value. It is an interesting concept but I do not recommend it. I expected a few more things such as a partially open bridge or some interior spaces. After I spent a few minutes flying around the ships, I realized that some of the details appear as if they were added just to say that they were there but don't serve any real purpose or function. Functional systems are completely missing and objects seem to be in random places where you might think they look appropriate. For example, there are ladders that go up to elevated platforms but no openings for the ladders and some aren't even straight up or down. The galleon might be the most detailed, but it still looks like an empty shell and not a functional ship. Ultimately, I cannot recommend the game because I was slightly disappointed by the experience.
I liked this experience. Any experience that explores real world things or places that I will probably never visit on my own, interests me. The controls are smooth and the quality of graphics and lighting are high. I hope the dev makes more.
I've left a more complete review of the game in the discussion section but to be brief here. I highly recommend this game If you are a lover of Ships and the Ocean. I had a lot of fun exploring the ships and taking screenshots, and with the ability to change the time of day you can get some truly beautiful sun sets. My favourite ship in game is the Cunard-White Star liner Queen Mary :) This is a sandbox ocean exploration experience. So as long as you're happy with that I'm sure you will love what Magnificent Ships Vol 1 has to offer. I have released 2 videos on my YouTube channel on this game already and the reaction from the community has been brilliant. This is one of the first games I've played on the Vive and I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was there. I enjoyed looking through the gunsights on the battleship, and standing toward the stern of the submarine (my "head" was underwater part of the time, and above part of the time). I was transported--this is an experience I couldn't get in any other way. One of my Navy buddies is eager to see it. His enjoyment alone will justify the cost.
Magnificent Ships is well, magnificient! It is very comfortable to move about with the unique locomotion of pulling the trigger and pointing where you want to go. Really enjoyed exploring all of the explorable parts of the ships. Graphics are very high-quality. This is a very nice introduction to VR expeience.
As a ship fan, I really enjoy this experience! The Queen Mary has always been a favorite of mine, so I just had to have it! The detail on the ships is really quite good. It's nice to see the ships in different lighting conditions, and the ocean looks amazing, I was a little disoriented at first by floating in space over the ocean, but quickly gained my "sea legs" and actually like this method of locomotion.
