What a waste of money. It's not a game. Developer is talking about it being a VR game. Why they display it in simulator, I don't know. It's not doing anything and the ship doesn't even sail.
Controls are fiddly, using sort-of Tank controls that don't really make sense in VR. I only played very briefly and felt motion-sick (I work with VR headsets every day, it takes a lot to make me feel queezy in VR). Some interactive objects also unexpectedly moved the camera, causing sudden disconnect that added to my nausea. Collision is a little all over the place, can often just walk through stuff. General framework/layout and experience is missing, no menus or any sort of introduction into what's going on. Graphics are lovely however, but they don't make up for the lack of content. With the above fixed, I still can't see this for more than £1.99 on Steam.

First let’s get past the main issue some people have with VROOM: Galleon, it’s not a game it’s a VR experience instead, and in my option a rather good one at that. It has plenty to explore and interact with and the touch controls work well with this experience and I like the fact that you get both a ship with items to examine and an Island to explore. On the ship you need to explore and interact with everything to get to the island, and climbing the rigging gives a very real feeling of height, just don’t try and grab on to the mast to support yourself like I did as it’s not really there. Then you need to get the ship to move you to the island so you can explorer it as well. Hint if you are having trouble getting to the island think about how you would control a real ship of this size and type. So in summary, if like me, you like exploring new thinks in VR that are hard to do in real life, then you will probably enjoy this VR experience. On the other hand if you are looking for yet another fast action wave shooting, go play something else this is probably not for you :-)
so do you either watch bum pirates of the carribean and buy cheap rum and pretend you are a mascara wearing bum pirate or do you take on your role seriously as scourge of the vr seas? and crack open a bottle of kraken...hack your leg off with a rusty sabre (kitchen knife) wear a tricorne hat and every word you utter as you don your vive ends in ARRR! Its nice and cheap and very enjoyable! especially getting to swim next to a mermaid with gravity defing titties! The graphics are absolutely beautiful, The seawater amongst some of the best I have seen I worry about the bucket that you have on the ship...whenever you muck about with it you are "rewarded" with an underskirt shot of a gigantic orca said orca doesnt munch up the swimming bawbags waiting to munch you. wouldnt it be cool if you could slash them up with your cutlass whilst dressed in your garb!? (seriously can you wear the clobber in the cabin somehow?) and how do you row the lifeboat? I havent found the monkeys but i keep hearing them or flown as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but i had an absolute ball playiing this so far No issues No seasickness (the irl wobble is hilarious!) Highly recommended for real life swashbucklers (not a euphemism!)
This is a very neat concept that still needs some work. The authentic Galleon is quite cool to explore and there are a ton of neat little surprise actions hidden throughout the game (things to open, things to activate, things to briefly enter the POV of). The graphics are great, but the movement is a bit odd and gave me pretty strong nausea. I'm looking forward to trying this in room scale with the vive, but I really think the movement will need something like Cloudhead's Blink locomotion or cloudstep. I have to recommend against the game at the $9.99 pricepoint in its current state. Given an updated movement system and some bugfixes for some minor graphical glitches, or a drop in pice to 2-3 dollars, I'd change this to a yes.
Amazing graphics for current VR hardware. Enjoyed the slow pace; just watching the ship rock and waves roll by. Can't wait for Vive support!
Cool demo, but needs work. The model is good but movement feels strange and there are frequent glitches with lighting and collisions. No options menu of any kind. Has potential to be a cool exploration experiance. Just needs polish.
Mouais.
