Macbat 64

Macbat 64 is a grab-bag of tiny nibble sized levels that mainly try to emmulate collectathons like Banjo-Kazooie, but also feature individual levels like a Kart race, an 80s level, and a kirby tribute level. The music was not great, the movement was slow and the levels were too small to be that fun to explore. I found the game to be missing a lot of the secrets and charm that came with old N64 platformers. It tries to do a lot, but in doing so does none of it that well. If it had instead focused on making a more cohesive experience with levels 2 times the size with a few secrets here and there maybe I could've forgiven the rough edges (such as weak/ cheap sounding sfx and things like the book level select not having the levels appear on the page as they flip through) and had a good time. But as is, Macbat 64 is a pale imitation of N64 titles, and while I can respect that it captured the general vibe of those games, it just wasn't really an enjoyable experience from the gameplay aspect to the exploration failing to deliver with the really tiny limited levels. I'd recommend skipping this game for Kiwi 64 instead if you're looking for something to scratch your 90s platformer itch.

Macbat 64 is a charming little 3D platformer that feels like a forgotten Nintendo 64 game. The colorful visuals, simple level design, and nostalgic atmosphere make it a fun and relaxing experience. The levels are very short but offer a lot of charm and a surprising amount of variety in the gameplay, all while staying true to the N64 era 3D platformers we know and love. There's secrets to find, great music to listen to, funny dialogue, and plenty of nods to old games we love. Macbat doesn't do anything crazy unique or interesting, but it provides you with a great little nostalgia trip that'll keep you entertained for an hour, and for a perfect price. While the levels can be a little bit overly simplistic at times, if you're looking for a trip down memory lane or just want a short little game that'll leave you with a smile on your face, you can't go wrong with Macbat 64. sweet short n64 throwback as usual, I always like when devs make these "collections of ideas", it feels super intent. The first two bonus levels were my highlight, great atmosphere.
