Lumber Island - That Special Place

This is a surprisingly good game. I tried to play the older retail version back in 2014, but it was broken beyond repair; the steam version, however, benefited from a few needed patches and became actually nicely polished. The game itself has almost no hand holding whatsoever. The best you can find is a few notes scattered around, some of them provide important clues that hint you at how you should progress, but basically you still have to figure out pretty much everything by yourself. Lumber Island - That Special Place is relatively short if you know where to go and what to do, and pretty much the most annoying part is the first chapter, which has a death threat that walks around, hindering your exploration constantly. And if you take into consideration that there are two key items you need to find that have variable spawn places... well... it can really take a while. The story isn't very... perceptible, or even logical in the slightest, but I liked how the puzzles teased my brain to make me work out my way through the game. All in all, it was a good experience. Recommended, thanks to DeanForge for their work.

The puzzles are pretty simple, but the music is good and the atmosphere it builds is enough to be enjoyable. I really like when the bear jumps into the water... ehehhehe.

This game isn't bad, however that doesn't make it good. It's got twists and turns that make sense and the notes explain what is going on nicely. The main issue with this game is that it has little direction. You could be walking around an area for 10-30 minutes before realizing what you're supposed to do. The first level handles this nicely, but the rest are confusing and lack of quick-saves or save points in general make this frustrating. It eventually turns into a trial and error game that loses all of it's fun. As much as I don't want to recommend this game, I have to. It has a decent story and the only issue I had was it's sense of direction. I'd recommend this game if you could pick it up on a sale, It has about an hour of content with it.

5時間程度でクリアしました！ 謎解き（探索）に時間がかかったので、早い人は4時間もあればクリアできるのでは！ 全体的に暗いので、曲がり角がちょっと怖いです。 短いながらもちょいちょいイベントを入れていて、そこそこ面白かったです！ 自分はこれっぽっちも英語分かりませんが、感覚でクリアできました。 それでも一応は英語の文はサラッと見た方がいいかもしれません。 ホラー感は、苦手な人でもできるぐらいのホラー演出だと思うので、 「安いしちょっとホラゲやるかー」的なノリでプレイされるのがいいかも。 行動は「調べる」「走る」ぐらいなので難しくないです。 敵にやられてしまったらチェックポイントからで、 途中でゲームを止めてもコンティニューできますよ。

Lumber Island - That Special Place is a strange, but kind of interesting horror adventure game, now then the story. A young man wakes up on an abandoned lumber island, he has no idea how he got there, but he knows he must escape. But this island may not be as abandoned as he thinks as he will soon meet the monsters that roam this horrid place. Alrighty then the likes, the story is interesting and confusing, I think I get it, but I could be wrong, so smarter people may have to try to dissect this game and you may have to play it a few more times to get the story. The gameplay is okay rather simple, pick up items to solve light puzzles as you avoid the stalker of the game, nothing really too complicated, but there is a problem with it but that's for the dislikes. The graphics are pretty good from what I can see it has a nice use of colors and designs that make this island feel real in some ways. The levels were okay; a little diverse we get to explore a little abandoned Village, a creepy mansion and a mine, you know classic staples of any horror game. The stalker of the game is okay has a nice Lumberjack/executioner look to him. The music was fine nothing really to write home about. The notes were okay they gave a little history of the island and they also tell you how to solve certain puzzles. Alrighty then the dislikes, the game is too dark to play what I mean by that is when you play the game you are given a lighter, but the problem is it barely illuminates anything and you have to get real close to objects in order to see them, which kind of sucks because I really wanted to see everything. And also because of the darkness it can be hard to find some of the objects in order to progress through the game and some of the objects could be pretty well hidden, I had to look up a walkthrough multiple times just to get through this game. Also the notes has a little problem with them and that is we can't really collect them, I would liked to be able to collect the notes so I could have gone over all of them before beating the game to understand the story better. Also the game doesn't have any achievements which I think this game should have. Now done with that Lumber Island - That Special Place is a strange, but kind of interesting horror adventure game, as interesting story, okay gameplay and an okay stalker, so do I recommend this game, I don't really know it's kind of hard to pin down if I'm telling the truth, you may find this interesting and it's only five bucks so you may want to give it a try.

日本語非対応。 一人称視点のホラーゲーム。 斧を持った大男が徘徊する孤島に漂着した主人公が、脱出を目指して村を探索する。 ゲームとしてはかなりシンプルで、アイテムや鍵を探し、進んでいくタイプ。 アイテムや鍵穴が見つかりにくい場所にあることが多く、初見では結構時間がかかるかもしれない。 不気味な雰囲気と程よいホラー要素は、値段に比して完成度が高いと感じた。 ボイスはないがムービーで丁寧にストーリーが語られるのも良い。 地味ながらオススメできるゲーム。

J'ai joué à un bon paquet de jeux d'horreur, et je peux affirmer que Lumber Island possède l'une des bestioles les plus répugnantes qu'il m'ait été donné de voir ! Ceci étant dit, nous nous retrouvons devant un jeu tout ce qu'il y a de plus classique. Notre héros se réveille sur une île mystérieuse où se trouve une scierie, et il va essayer de s'en sortir, tout en découvrant pourquoi la seule âme qui vive (à première vue) est un bûcheron fou qui lui court après. Comme d'habitude, l'histoire se découvre à travers des notes écrites et des pages de journeaux qui vous permettront de reconstituer le déroulé des événements. Il y a beaucoup à lire, et comme il s'agit d'une histoire plutôt lovecraftienne, il faut s'accrocher pour ne pas perdre le fil, sans quoi vous risquez de manquer quelques précieux détails et ne pas tout comprendre. La fin du jeu reste de toute façon énigmatique. Je précise que certaines notes comportent des indications sur ce qu'il faut faire (ou ne pas faire) et donc qu'il vaut mieux être attentif. Niveau gameplay, notre personnage peut courir (joie!), il faut trouver les bons objets pour avancer, et ne pas hésiter à retourner toute une pièce pour trouver ce qu'il nous fait, car ils sont parfois bien cachés. Le jeu n'est pas difficile, mais parfois maladroit, surtout quand il brise tout d'un coup ses propres règles. Exemple : ce moment où l'on doit ouvrir une porte pour s'échapper en urgence. Alors que nous devons depuis le début cliquer pour les ouvrir, il suffit, lors de cette séquence, de courir dessus. Sauf que rien ne permet de le deviner, et que si l'on a pas le réflexe de se coller à la porte, elle reste fermée et l'on se demande alors ce qu'il faut faire. Globalement, Lumber Island est très sombre, et votre pauvre briquet magique (car inépuisable) n'y changera pas grand chose ; c'est parfois un peu gênant. Niveau sonore, le jeu est presque tout entier marqué par une pulsation rythmée qui confère un sentiment d'urgence et de menace latente. Efficace, mais cela peut prendre la tête si vous mettez trop de temps à progresser. En somme : sans être époustouflant, Lumber Island est un jeu honnête que je peux vous recommander sans problème.
