I feel bad writing a not recommended review for this game, as you can tell passion went into it and there's clearly talent on display too. But that's how I felt by the end. Basically, this game starts out pretty fun, with a good style and really good score. I love spaghetti westerns, and the influence on this is obvious, with several name checks including to some that casual fans won't know (The Great Silence, for instance), musical influence is there too, I enjoyed all that. The core gameplay feels fine, at first. I really like the duck companion who retrieves your throwing knife and is always present - great concept and well-executed. The bosses are pretty good, if simple. The luck stuff is interesting. But eventually, the enemies get really excessively spongy, the difficulty climbs, and it gets annoying and not fun any more. Like, imagine if you were playing Contra and the regular guys that run at you took EIGHT individual bullet hits, and you had to reload every six shots on top of that. Reloading is also cancelled by jumping or the dodge roll, which just feels awkward, you have to hit the reload button almost as much as the fire button. You have a throwing knife, but it's as weak as a bullet, rendering it almost pointless. It all just kills the flow, you feel like you're cheesing the game just to kill standard enemies, running away to reload as they charge at you. I also kept basically forgetting about luck. It's there, I'd use it in tough sections, but it doesn't feel that well integrated with everything else. I really feel like they could have tweaked these different ingredients and made a better game out of them with much better combat flow. How about if you're completely empty AND throw the knife, a dodge roll gives an auto reload? How about rolling doesn't stop reloading? Headshots do quadruple damage? I don't know, something. There's also a couple other annoyances. You can't completely skip boss cut scenes, so if you die it gets annoying. You can also die AFTER a boss fight, and have to re-fight them. But, the core problem is just the combat gets tedious and the enemies stop being fun. I'll note - I did finish the game in about 2 hours with little serious difficulty, for those curious about the length. Just the challenge wasn't a fun one - it was tedious.
This has serious style and music to match it. Easy to pick up 2D platforming/shooting with some tricky boss fights. Highly recommended! And get that soundtrack too...it's a damn dollar!!
This spaghetti western action adventure has your gunslinging hero pounding some baddies into the dirt and might just have you pounding your desk in frustration. This indie game surprised me with the amount of storytelling and fun gameplay there is packed inside a wonderful western world, but the gameplay also disappoints at times. i must say this is one of my favorite retro style games ever, its incredibly made with an even better soundtrack. its without doubt one of the most underrated games ever in my opinion. if you like retro or challenging games i cant recommend this enough
A rare retro-looking game that is actually awesome! Feels like tripping or weird dreams, and actually has a great story behind it! Will leave long lasting impressions and that wish to come back and replay.
I got this game back in 2019 from a monthly subscription box called Geek Fuel. I played about 20 hours of the game, never beat it, but I thought it was good as it was one of the first games I had ever played on PC. I recently decided to go back in my collection and give it another go to try and beat it once and for all. And while I still hold the opinion that this is a good game, I have some criticisms I'd like to share that hopefully reach the developers. First; Every boss fight in the game, If you die, you either go back to the last respawn point or you Game Over and have to start back at the beginning of the level. This is fine and it makes sense, but every time you retry one of the bosses you have to sit through all of the dialogue boxes over and over and over. It got old fast and maybe that was intentional for not being able to kill the bosses the first time, but it was painful when your fighting the same boss 10+ times. Second; Every boss in the game has a secret trophy associated with them that can only be earned through really good luck, which as someone who loves the accomplishment with 100%ing a game, that's 6 times you have to be extremely lucky to get the trophy. Third; speaking of wanting to 100% the game, I beat the game all the way, sat through the credits and everything, but it did not give me the beat the game trophy which may be a bug and since I'm not going to be able to 100% the game anyways doesn't bother me too much but it is what it is. Finally; I'd like to end this on a good note and say this was a real fun experience even with the flaws it has. It's a unique game that isn't just a palate swap of another game. it's original, charming, and its got character and real potential. I understand this is an 8 year old game from a small Publisher that hasn't seen an update in about two years, so that's why I'm giving this game a 7.5/10.
The game's got style, the music is awesome, and it's a retro arcade experience where you're supposed to fail a few times. Got a little too hard for me after a few levels in, but the music is amazing. The art doesn't look that great in screenshots but in motion it works well.
Old school game play. Very well done. Perfect ammount of frustration vs ease of play to make it fun. Solid sound track.
