Fun combat with a twist on the traditional roguelike turn base
Soulsy classical roguelike with lots of interesting design decisions, e.g. levelling up identifies and recharges items, including an Estus-Flask-esque healing item. Very interesting tactical combat and diverse item-based builds. I haven’t played a ton yet, but thus far this feels to me like a top-tier combat-focused roguelike.
A fascinating little traditional roguelike (as in a game like the original Rogue) with an excellent vibe.

An absolute gem. The animations, combat, and sound design are very satisfying. The itemization is interesting. It is not just sword of +1 upgrading to sword of +2. The flavor text on the enemies is well written. There is world building narrative. My only regret is that I did not discover this game earlier. The controls are a bit awkward but I quickly got used to it. It was pretty funny accidentally drinking a potion of fire twice in a row.
Lost Flame is a game that understands something very important about darkness. Darkness is not simply the absence of light. Sometimes darkness is a place where you can barely see what is waiting for you. Sometimes it is the feeling that you have already used everything you had, that there is no healing left, no protection left, no convenient answer left to the problem standing in front of you. And sometimes you walk forward anyway. This is what makes Lost Flame such a memorable experience. It creates a world where every step feels like a decision and every decision feels like something you may eventually have to pay for. There is a wonderful cruelty to the game. The world does not hate you. It simply does not care whether you are prepared. Enemies are dangerous, but what makes them interesting is that danger never feels completely meaningless. They feel like obstacles that demand understanding rather than obstacles that simply demand more numbers. You learn their patterns, their possibilities, their personalities, and slowly you begin to understand that survival is not about becoming invincible. It is about becoming less foolish. And then there are the moments when everything goes wrong. You have spent your resources. Your health is low. The things that could have saved you are already gone. You look at the next enemy and, for a brief moment, the correct decision seems to be turning around. But there is nowhere to turn. So you fight. And when you win, the victory feels different from the usual victory in games. It is not simply the reward for having a stronger character. It is the reward for having survived a situation that, only a few minutes earlier, looked completely unreasonable. Lost Flame is full of these moments. It is a game about uncertainty, but also about learning to live with uncertainty. It gives you enough tools to create possibilities without ever giving you the comfortable certainty that everything will work out. That balance is difficult to achieve. Too much generosity removes tension. Too much cruelty removes hope. Lost Flame somehow manages to stand between the two. It is the kind of game where you can be terrified of the next room and still be excited to enter it. And perhaps that is the best thing I can say about it. I never felt completely safe. I never felt completely prepared. But I always wanted to see what was waiting beyond the next corner. There is something deeply satisfying about a game that makes survival feel like an achievement rather than an expectation. Lost Flame does not promise you that you will succeed. It simply gives you a flame, places you in the darkness, and asks you to keep going. Sometimes the flame feels very small. But it is enough. Highly recommended.
>be me >helpless adventurer >eaten alive by cats in a lighthouse moments ago >find a ring that lets me summon a zombie >what do you mean I can use this as many times as I want? >what do you mean I can use this from across the map >upgrade intelligence >what do you mean it summons 2 zombies now? >upgrade intelligence >what do you mean it summons 6 zombies now? >find mace that gives me +5 to zombie summoning >what do you mean it summons "marching mountain of flesh now"
