Still wish there was a third recommend option, I'd vote with mixed feelings. Started off strong, pretty visuals, it was smooth, transitioning into some animals and getting the more 'cutscene' style was cool. Story is interesting. Unfortunately there were too many issues for me to continue and I've uninstalled. If you miss a mushroom or collectible in some areas you cannot go back, this turned my play through immediately stressful because I was hoping for a game where I could just run, relax, and feel immersed. You can't jump down even small little ledges to a not that far off path beneath it resets you, in fact weird collisions, weird unsmooth turning, and getting locked out of spots were huge cons. It started to feel flat, only a few things you can change into, it wasn't the game I thought it was perhaps. Anytime I looked at this in my library to continue to play I could feel myself tense and not be happy or excited to continue my play through, but someone might end up really enjoying this and it just wasn't for me.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The gameplay is essentially run to a marker, play a cutscene, run to the next marker to play a cutscene, over and over. The camera movement feels really weird and incredibly slow, and the voice acting has awkward pauses in between characters lines. Sure, you can play as different animals, but realistically you're playing as the other animals for 5-10 secs at a time before switching back to the wolf.
Как Flower, только хуже.
I recommend people looking to play this game go into it with the following knowledge: 1. That this game is more of an interactive movie than a full game. 2. Minimalist mode is preferred and allows for many story beats to land better. 3. This game is best purchased during a sale. Overall, I really liked this! The game was a short and sweet experience with good ost and very good art design. I have a couple of nitpicks (i.e the VA being a little goofy and the art sometimes having an "uncanny valley" feel, and also the price probably being too steep, etc.), however those have already been covered by other reviews. I also tried to Fish% this game (where you play through the entire game as a fish. Don't try it for your sanity), and failed royally because you're not supposed to play the entire game as a fish.
I have completed 100% of the game. Story, collectibles, achievements, all of it. This review comes from a place of thought and experience. I will be discussing the different factors influencing my review in this order: Visuals, story, puzzles and gameplay, the collectathon that is the 100% achievement, then some miscellaneous points that don't really fit anywhere else. Let's start of positive, the visuals are pretty great. Far from perfect, but they are consistently the highlight of the game. Environments are unique and interesting, with lots of visual storytelling. It is very hard to get lost in these environments, or at the very least hard to go the wrong way. Unfortunately, it's downhill from there. The story isn't that great. It's a standard duo where both characters have forgotten their memory, with the protagonist being the "This person is bad, but don't worry, they were completely justified, so they were actually the good guy!" trope. There are also 2-3 cutscenes per cutscene, so you have to hold the skip button multiple times. Very annoying. Meanwhile, your companion turns out to be the only other character we get any dialogue from, who also happens to be the father, as well as the antagonist of the story, which is nothing but predictable. The only real twist was there were two twists, but it doesn't really help the story. The story also doesn't aid the environmental storytelling. So many interesting questions, like "Why is nobody from this civilization left?" are never answered. On a positive note, you can mute the narrator. Puzzles are stated better and more coherently in this review, but to summarize, they're boring. I just thought they were worth mentioning. The gameplay is horrendous. The sensitivity is garbage, making turning around a chore, all the animals are floaty and unresponsive, it's impossible to be precise, and the bindings are terrible. Many of the birds need to be corralled into flying low enough to obtain collectables, even though that's the only way to reach many of them. There are options where you can hold the spacebar for auto sprint, but that doesn't work with all the animals. The game also has a fall protection that was implemented horribly. Most games will teleport the player back if they fall out of bounds, but this game teleports you back if you fall for too long, meaning jumps from most ledges will teleport you right back, or even worse, farther back than you originally were. This has been one of the worst implementations in fall protection I have ever seen. It is bafflingly horrible. And finally, for all the ground animals, shift is run, and space is jump. But for all the fish and birds, the keybinds are reversed, so shift is jump/fly up, and space is the sprint key. Why? There was no reason to overcomplicate this! It makes switching between flying/swimming and running a pain. And finally, regarding keybinds, the game tells you twice that R is the ram keybind. It is not. That would be the Ctrl key. Again, why? How did this get past QA testing? Next is the collectathon. There are 77 relics, and 142 mushrooms to collect for the 100% achievement. Yes, I know it's optional, but I love achievements. This wouldn't be so bad if the controls were floaty Remember how I mentioned the controls were terrible? Well there is a section where you control a mudfish and race down a hill. This sequence breaks a few times on its own, but even worse is there are 5 mushrooms to collect here. Thankfully you just need to get close enough to them, but if you miss them, the only way to go back is to reload. I had to reset at least 10 times to fully collect all of them. Now to add salt to the wound, the game only has stats (mushrooms, memories, and relics) listed for every chapter. This is a problem, because there are multiple subchapters. Chapters four and five both have six subchapters each. Missing one mushroom in either of these chapters? You need to check every subchapter until you find it. Which I had to do multiple times. This, plus the dodgy controls, means collecting all the items is far more painful than it has any right to be. Finally, miscellaneous bits. The setting is unclear. It seems to be very obviously American, with inspirations from North and South American cultures, and animals like hummingbirds, bison, and armadillos, but then there are parrots, elephants, and bamboo? It doesn't make any sense. The music is good, but it didn't stick out too much to me. The sandstorm in chapter 5 was very loud, and the snowstorm near the final chapter slowed the already slow pace to a crawl. There were things this game did well. But as it stands, it would have been better as an animated movie. Not a game.
Lost Ember -
This "Game" is a wonderful cinimatic story, while i use quotes around game as its more of an interactive movie pulling you in, the levels flow so naturally that my brain sorta autopiloted my character it felt so natural that it was almost like i'd played it before! i have 10,000's of hours in gaming and this game was a story i will never forget the world building and the detail are something words dont describe, while not a game in the conventional sense, truly it is much, much more. thank you for making this story
I first played this game around when it came out, and came back to it today because of Rekindled. Unfortunately, Rekindled broke my rose-tinted glasses. The only reason I'm reviewing this version instead is because Rekindled is mostly just a graphics upgrade (and a performance downgrade) and my main gripes were outside of graphics. Note, these devs still accomplished a great feat just by the fact the game exists, and I do have positives, I just want to point out the glaring flaws as well. -There are way too many collectibles. I am no stranger to indie exploration games having enough collectibles to make The Legend of Zelda blush, but 142 mushrooms? And no map tracking? The frick-. Even the 50 lotus flowers in Rekindled's Legendary Souls DLC have no map tracking or any real way of finding them beyond your own eyes, so clearly things haven't changed in 6 years. I originally beat this game long before I became an achievement hunter, but when I tried it again today because of Rekindled, I considered 100%ing it until I saw how many achievements and how many collectibles there were, and after about half an hour running around as the slowest creatures possible I just went 'Yeah I'm not achievement hunting this'. -The game gets very stale very quick, with only a few tiny highlights. I kept playing the parrot level and the final vulture level over and over because they were the only really fun parts of the game, the rest of the game is just a walking simulator (I did like the firefly sequence though). The maps are way too big since they want to encourage possessing creatures and exploring like a sandbox, but even the 'fastest' land creatures are slow as hell to the point that after the parrot level I always dreaded switching back to the wolf or a buffalo. -I really don't like to call acting 'bad' in any project, but yeah...the voice acting ain't great. The plot twist near the end has stuck in my head all these years not because it was good, but because the actor's 'surprised voice' was so bad it has been permanently burnt into my brain. And he's the only voice you hear for 99% of the game so get used to it. -The story is alright, Spirit of the North just does it better though. I legit can't remember any of it since most of the story is 'look at how cool the worldbuilding is' with a splash of a plot twist that is rather obvious. Like, I would write more in this section but I've already struggled a few times trying to recount any information that isn't the plot twist. Granted I played this a long time ago now, but at least I remember a rough outline of the plot for other games I played a similarly long time ago. -The graphics are nice, though after playing Spirit of the North and then coming back to this game in the Rekindled version, the graphics haven't aged well at all, even with an upgrade. Plus Rekindled runs like ass even with my somewhat high specs rig, so now we have dated graphics and bad frame rate. +The soundtrack is beautifully excellent, but it's trigger/area based so you'll hear the same little jingle from going over the same spot of the map over and over. Normally that's not an issue in indie games but since I was struggling to navigate in Rekindled's DLC I heard the same three soundtracks multiple times to the point I could predict when they started. Aside from that I still have certain songs in my playlist I listen to regularly. +The art style is good, though mostly on the wolf. It's funny, I like how the wolf looks but I still find it kind of an awkward design, and it kinda looks more like a fox in some ways, but it still looks nice and the other animals are good too. The elephants have such tall legs though that it reminds me of the oliphaunts from Lord of the Rings. -Rekindled: I tagged this one for the remaster because it's a base game mechanic, but it became more of a problem in the remaster's DLC. The game doesn't want you jumping down slightly raised slopes like this is Pokemon, and will respawn you with a black screen on the last 'valid ground' you were on. Normally this isn't an issue, aside from wasting time, but the remaster's DLC has massive cliffs and since the land creatures are so damn slow you will want a parrot at all times. I lost my parrot on the highest part of the map and completely gave up after attempting to take a short cut down with a ram but kept getting kicked back up to the start of the cliff just because I fell slightly too far, and I was not about to spend 20 minutes running across this desert at 5 miles per hour just to get down. Again, I respect this game a lot, but Rekindled has woken me up to the problems it has. Just play Spirit of the North. You can't shapeshift into creatures in that game, but collectibles respect your sanity, there's more engaging puzzles and it runs better. Thanks for reading
