Yes, the story is emotional and the environment is beautiful, but if you are not expecting a walking simulator broken up only by running around the current area doing puzzles, it is probably (at least at first) going to be a SLOG. The 2.5 hours I've played so far in my first sitting were moderately frustrating. There's only a very simple compass while paddling (that I actually kind of forgot about and paddled out into the open sea, I think I missed it in the intro) and no kind of minimap on land, which is especially tough for me because I have a really garbage working memory and struggle to orient myself for navigation. There's also a limited stamina for running, for seemingly no reason but to motivate you to collect wisps, and the main character's face is pretty expressionless for such an emotional story. Sort of uncanny valley. But the voice acting is excellent. I do really enjoy running around as the dog, jumping up rocks and occasionally herding sheep, but I don't know if it's enough that I'll pick it back up again. I'm not mad I bought it.. just glad I got it on a really good sale.
You play as a dog following your human companion dealing with grief through the Scottish isles. Beautiful artwork and soundtrack is 10/10! Moving story with lots of little things to discover. Love the ode to Gaelic language. I recommend the developers add a map function or something to help navigate the many different islands because it was hard to keep track of where I'd been to before while kayaking. In the end I got too frustrated with navigating and just finished the main storyline. Got this game through Game Club.
100/10 I bought this game two weeks before my dog Charles passed away. It sat in my library untouched for a while, and the week after he passed, I was going through my un-played games and stumbled across this one, deciding that with the est. playtime being around 7 hours, I'd give it a try. What followed was the most beautifully told story about grief, love, and the joy of life that I've ever seen. It made me fall in love with Chesley and Cailey, and reminded me to hold onto the good times long gone despite the sadness it might bring. This is a genuine masterpiece of a game, and for anyone out there thinking about getting it, absolutely do, it is more then worth your time.
This game broke me, absolutely shattered me.. but it was worth it for the beautiful story it told of a familys love for their beloved Chesley. hgihly recommend for any pet lovert, but have a whole box of tissues ready, youve been warned
Absolutly loved this game! The entire game feels liek a love letter to the creator's culture and childhood. The world feels so rich with life and the gameplay/puzzle mechanics are fun. Not only that, but it's paired with an amazing story that is universally relateabe. I couldn't help but think about how one day I will be going through the same things as Cailey and I hope I can manage it as well as her. I also love little details like Cailey's namge changing to her Gaelic name in the subtitles if you bag all the Munros and learn her real name. Lastly, all the gameplay mechanics that you learn thoughout the islands come together perfectly on the last island in such a satisfying way. Runs great on Deck as well! I did enounter a few issues where things weren't triggering and I had to reload the game. Some iof the islands are quite large and anvigating/backtracking them for collectibles is a bit of a pain, but they reward you with so much story it's worth it! Loved the way the jounral fills up as you repair the lighthouses. Jumping is also a bit janky, sometimes Chess would over jump a landing, even when the auto aim jump sign was showing. This led me to getting stuck in a couple areas and having to reset the game again. Overall a solid game that I highly reccomend and I'm so glad I played it.
Very sweet and emotional game. The visuals are gorgeous. Music is fantastic. Short game if you want it to be but tons of extra content to come back to or just to explore the beautiful landscapes. I feel like this is the type of game I will return to, maybe even when it is more relevant to me and really benefit from the catharsis. This game is absolutely a hidden gem, highly recommend!
A very emotional and beautiful game with an amazing soundtrack to accompany your journey. I highly recommend playing through it.
Nothing really interesting has happened in the first hour of the game, either in terms of gameplay or story. Maybe the puzzles and exploration get better later, but the early ones have the structure of "follow this light that shows you where to go" and "unlock this door/path by walking a few meters away." Kind of like a walking simulator where the camera sometimes decides it has better things to do than follow you around.
10/10, cried so hard at the end haha, lovely game, so much meaning and depth, you guys did a great job with the game, thank you for making this <3
Este juego llegó a mi cuando mi perrito murió. Gracias. Desde el fondo de mi corazón, esta experiencia me acompañará de por vida para recordar felizmente a Dexter
