Terrible port of a mediocre flat-screen game. I never gave a negative review to a free VR port before, but that's might be because they haven't given me a headache in just first 30 minutes of gameplay. VR camera turning of Lost Ember are nausea inducing even for veterans of the medium. I still pushed through because Steam and Metacritic scores for a flat version promised a good experience, but it was nowhere to be found. It is basically "push forward to progress"/walking sim type of game. There is nothing wrong with that, but you gotta have a really good writing/characters/atmosphere to compensate for the lack of an actual gameplay. And Lost Embers desperately fails at anything story related. Writing is terrible, 95% of the narration is exposition dumps, characters are as featureless as their in-game models, voice acting struggles with delivering those stupid-ass lines, the story goes from bland "violence bad" plot to nonsensical redemption arcs. On the small plus side: visuals are cute and traversing with some of the animals(like wombat rolling or fish sliding) is fun. Works on Reverb G2 with XBox controller
A wonderful art piece ! I enjoyed this from beginning to the end. Gameplay is not much more than a walking simulator but it's all so inspired: environments are beautiful and the animals movements are something that took much love to make. The third person view at first disappointed me but then I realized it was the right way to appreciate the experience. I played on Quest3 by VirtualDesktop and DualShock4 (this worked perfectly and was very intuitive).
From the beginning, the VR is lacking.... - You cannot use your VR hand controllers, so you either have to couple it with a keyboard or another controller. - The opening scene is so close to your face that it makes you feel like your eyes are crossed. You see double and have to close one eye to see anything and the skip button is hard to see, especially when you need to realize that you have to HOLD the button and not just press it. And it isn't just the opening scene they do this. - I never get motion sick & have played multiple other VR games with never an issue, but the way this VR is done, I got incredibly queasy and had to stop playing. - You CANNOT look around and move at the same time as the character will automatically start moving the way you are looking. - Cut scenes frequently have your eyes at ground level, not low, literally as if you are an ant on the ground trying to watch an entire scene. I thought I just needed to recenter. Nope. Also it frequently wants you to look way off to the side, but when you try and look off to the side the scene jumps back to center. Just really awkward angles. - It frequently has your character off-center, making it hard to navigate and you are also too close to the character even if you adjust, so it feels like you can barely see above the grass a lot. - It keeps automatically moving you from animal to animal without clicking the button to do so. "Oh, I'm sorry was it important that you were trying to fly right now? We're just gonna bump you into a ground animal and then another animal and then another. We're you trying to dig? Nope. We are going to move you to another animal. Good luck." - You can fly, but only as high as some imaginary line that is different near each object & completely arbitrary. It's more like gliding of falling short of where you need to be, but you don't know until you go for it. You end up feeling like you are falling trying to fly. A bit unsettling. I frequently had to fly into the abyss so that I could respawn somewhere safe. However you can actually fly up in what feels like random & completely unuseful areas and not the areas you actually need to fly in. I liked the story concept & art though, so maybe I'll give the Non-VR version a try, but disappointed as I thought this would be an awesome VR experience.
Je comprend vraiment pas l'intêret d'avoit fait un mode VR sur ce jeu, sachant que ça n'utilise aucunes mécaniques de VR... (que ça soit la manette, ou le style de vue)
hermoso juego y da demasiada nostalgia
eski dunya insanlarini sevmiyorum amk mizrakla yabayla. neyse tarihsel sacmaligi gormezsek iyiydi
