Despite being a puzzle game and not having said that in the description, tags, or anywhere else on the store page (at the time of purchase and at the time of writing this review), I want to like this game. The graphics are phenomenal, transitions between first and 3rd person are seamless, and the story seems entertaining… But, as of right now the bugs are just too frustrating. Trying to move while in first person up and down stairs and ramps, across bridges, or even across the threshold of stairs causes you to get stuck or slowly slide off the map. The game needs to incorporate alternative styles of movement. Aiming and collision detection seem way off as well (especially in the dragon level). The sound clips are very poor quality too. I'm not talking about the English narration (although it could do with a bit more believability), it's the walking sound clips, some of the action clips, and various others that just do not leave the best quality of sound in your ear holes. Also, it's really annoying to have to suffer through the intro to the map if you fail, like on the dragon level, every single time. Please update to only play the intro the first time and then start the game right after if restarting the level. And there are no settings in game. No sound, no graphics, no controls, absolutely no settings of any type. Every game needs the ability to adjust game settings, it's just fundamental, typically covered in one of the first classes of game building 101. So, in short, I want to like this game, but despite being as visually appealing as it is, it's just not there yet.

I wanted to post a super quick pre-review for those who like me, looked at this and immediately had that feeling of "oh no, I've been hurt before, if I buy this... will they hurt me again?" from all of the crap that has been released lately in the VR world at retail prices. :) I would like to say that this game IS legit! VERY polished game from an obviously capable developer. I am also happy to say that you will NOT have to break out your English/Korean dictionary. The English is a bit broken at times, but all in all quite a bit better than the majority of titles in this category. The concept/interface is also very unique. If you are wondering, like I was, what the heck is with the isometric views in the screen shots? Basically the game mechanic allows for you to pull back to a dollhouse view where you can look at the scene holistically. From this view you can take over either or both characters in first person to manage the very detailed environment (the detail in FPS and zoomed out is very well done). The puzzles are a tad cliche, not bad, but so far pretty much the kind you have seen in a 2 + character dungeon crawler (avatar a stand on platform b to gain access to c, etc.) but I don't care, it's beautiful and the atmosphere makes it work. I have played enough that I feel very safe in recommending this game! A few notes: I tested this on Windows Mixed Reality (Samsung Odyssey) and Oculus Rift. The Oculus support is solid and game play is great. On the WMR side the game is surprisingly good, but NOT quite there. :'( I say this because many of we WMR users gamble on Vive games because most work with the system without trouble (other than knowing the control differences). In this case the game looks BEAUTIFUL in the Samsung higher pixel and deep colored OLED display, and the performance is solid and smooth as butter (gtx 1080 on that machine) . Unfortunately, the core mechanic of first/third person view does not appear to be working properly. When in isometric view, unlike on the Rift, you cannot control the characters with the track pad or thumb sticks and the camera zooms out to a strange and likely unintended place. There are also some very small issues with the avatar hitting tiny ledges during some upward hills that stop you dead in your tracks, like something larger than a 5cm ledge is stopping you. This is easly worked around though with a little fidgeting or popping in and out of third person. @Developer, you basically have WMR 90% there from what I can tell, I would ask that you consider working with some testers (I am willing to pitch in if it helps) and get the WMR support proper! It works... but I have to say that I will be playing this through on my Rift despite the large visual improvement on my WMR headset. I know you did not state it in the supported headset section, but man, it seems like you could open up a large and growing VR population to yourselves if you take the additional effort. As it stands for now, though, my suggestion to WMR users, wait to buy for a patch or at least sign of committed WMR support. While it works I think some things you will miss out on or expertience in an unintended way, and there very well could be some game breaking scenarios later on. I will be playing with customizing the Steam bindings to see if I can make the 3rd person loco function and not give up; If I am able to get that part working at least I will update my review.
Hier mein Video Review: https://youtu.be/r5i2QsigGgI
2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/q7Ql3_Pc4kw Lost Cave VR is a puzzle adventure game where you control two characters that need to work in tandem to solve all the puzzles. You control the blue character with your right hand, the red character with your left hand. While in observer mode you press the trackpads to move them. By pressing the trigger button you take control of either character. While in first-person the only mode of movement is arm swinging locomotion. There are many actions that require you to play in first-person mode: Things like pulling levers, climbing robes, and lighting torches. As you would imagine, you need to keep switching between characters because the puzzles require each character to play their part to keep things advancing. While in observer mode there’s a constant overlay in your view showing the locations of the two characters. At first I thought it would get annoying but I eventually got used to it and it didn’t bother me. The graphics are great. But the voice acting is underwhelming. But since it’s mostly a puzzle game that didn’t necessarily bother me. Later in the game zombies are introduced, and it’s a one hit kill from them. Once they touch you, you have to start that level all over again. It’s really challenging and I wasn’t able to get past that part. The developer has stated on the forums that it’ll take about 2-3 hours to beat the game. So for $20 it’s a little pricey, but it is a good puzzle game.
Despite limited time with the game, only completing the first few levels, ill validate the positive statements from Nxy. The diorama effect is wonderfully detailed, the caverns look great and are quite expansive in a room scale enviroment. The way it jumps to first person is seemless, swaping between the characters just as easy. First person mode features smooth loco, snap turning and adopts the arm swinging from the like of sprint vector, and dungeon knight. Interactions with dungeon obstacles are done with hand movements like rope ladder climbing, lighting torches, grabing the sliding ropes. The first few levels were rather basic, so i can't speak to greater detail about content later in the game. Creatures, traps, and quick actions required between the characters would certainly be welcome beyond the basic puzzles i encounterd early on. I recommend the game on what little i've seen, but hope there's more to it as the videos seem to suggest.
Lost Cave is a very original title, interesting in the controls and looks good, too. A real little pearl. From the beginning Lost Cave puts us into two characters at the same time. Later even a third one follows. We mainly steer two persons through mysterious caves, which are full of dangers, traps and also nasty pugs. We control our two heroes either in an Iso3D view, similar to Moss or from the ego perspective. We can quickly switch between the different views by pressing the trigger of the corresponding controller. The index controllers are half-heartedly supported, but the game can be played with them without any problems. Conveniently, one is controlled with the left controller and the other completely with the right one. Switching to the first-person view is not only a nice gimmick, but is one of the unique selling points of Lost Cave. There are always situations where you can only get ahead in the ego view, this includes simple things like lighting torches, but also more action-packed things like climbing and of course operating switches. The puzzles can only be solved if the characters work together in a meaningful way. It's really fun to look at the puzzles in all perspectives and then come to the solution and actively execute it. Sometimes changing the different views and controlling two characters at the same time can be a bit confusing, but after some time you get used to it quickly. The puzzles themselves are not difficult, mostly they are switches, wheels or similar, which have to be activated to let them both leave the level. The classic in/out game. However the game breaks with the simple solution structure with the big opponent. Which unfortunately can only be solved by try and error. It took me about five tries until I recognized the regularity of the opponent and how to use both pieces. Technically, the game really does very well, it has detailed textures and atmospheric lighting, embedded in a great level architecture. If you want, you can play Lost Cave in ego perspective with arm-swing locomotion, this is even the original setting. But meanwhile the game can also be played in Free Locomotion. However, both controllers have the same settings, even the snapturns, which are like walking on the sticks. That means you will turn around unintentionally more often while walking with the sticks. What is really terrible, however, is the voice of the English narrator, who lacks the right expressiveness that the scenes shown and the course of the story would require. The sounds of the big gun firing towards the end of the game are also horrible, sounding like a plastic ruler banging on a tabletop. But the other musical background is quite successful. Lost Cave is a unique adventure title with a very intuitive yet new control system and a completely different visual presentation in VR. Such a game as an AA title, with even more beautiful graphics and a little better sound would be a dream. The game offers puzzles and action for about 2h, unfortunately Lost Cave ends when you are right in the story; and then you are held up with a "to be continue... But that also means that the story should be continued. We can be curious. Lost Cave is a must for all adventure fans!
1st Impressions Video with Commentary // Oculus Rift + Touch // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thSex2bbM8M My Quick Thoughts: For an Early Access title, this is a Gem in the Rough, it takes elements found in games like Moss and adds a really cool First Person view. This game also reminds me of the classic pancake game 'Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons' Awesome stuff! Do not overlook this gem of a title!
