This is a nice little action Roguelight if you can get it on sale. The pixel art graphics are pleasing and the music and sound is good. The game doesn't have a ton of depth, but that's ok because it delivers well on what it does. I've played plenty of Dark Souls and I still recommend putting this game on 'Easy Mode', not because it's too difficult otherwise, but because it's overly-frustrating without 'Easy Mode' on. You will still get a lot of satisfaction, enjoyment and challenge out of it even on 'Easy Mode'. There are some enemies that require you to 'Parry' to do damage to, but they attack so quickly, and your parry is delayed, so it's literally impossible unless you just get lucky spamming parry. I just skip these guys because it's pointless to take damage trying to kill them. This isn't a game I'll dump dozens of hours into like some Roguelights. It's a nice change of pace, and enjoyable for a couple quick playthroughs, especially since I got in on sale for only a few bucks. Worth it on sale for 75%-90% off. Would not pay full price for it.
Fun game. Easy to learn and pickup but still challenging. It's a little short. Could probably clear out all the achievements in less than 12 hours if you wanted, but could probably put a lot more hours into if you're the rogue-like player who likes to try out every weapon/spell combination.
Rozwój postaci? Brak.

Loot River is an ambitious and unconventional action roguelike that distinguishes itself through a striking mechanical idea rather than sheer content volume or narrative density. Developed by straka.studio and published by straka.studio in collaboration with SUPERHOT PRESENTS, the game drops players into a bleak, flooded world of crumbling ruins, hostile creatures, and shifting architecture. From the outset, it becomes clear that Loot River is less interested in following established genre formulas and more focused on experimenting with how space itself can become an active part of combat, exploration, and survival. The defining feature of Loot River is its tile-sliding mechanic, which transforms the dungeon floor into a dynamic puzzle. Rather than navigating static rooms and corridors, players stand on floating landmasses that can be pushed and repositioned in real time. These tiles can be slid to bridge gaps, isolate enemies, create choke points, or escape dangerous situations. This mechanic fundamentally reshapes how players think about movement and positioning, turning every encounter into a blend of spatial reasoning and reflex-based combat. It gives the game a tactile, almost board-game-like quality, where controlling the environment can be just as important as swinging a weapon. Combat itself leans heavily into dark fantasy and soulslike sensibilities. Encounters are deliberate and punishing, emphasizing stamina management, dodge timing, and reading enemy behavior. Weapons feel heavy and purposeful, and careless aggression is often punished quickly. When combat and tile manipulation align, the result can be genuinely exhilarating, as players slide platforms to separate enemies or gain breathing room before committing to an attack. However, this balance is not always consistent. Enemy readability can be uneven, and some encounters feel more chaotic than tactical, especially when multiple foes converge on a small tile with limited room to maneuver. Progression follows a familiar roguelike structure, with each run offering temporary upgrades, equipment, and abilities that reset upon death, alongside more permanent advancements unlocked through a central hub. These systems provide a sense of forward momentum, encouraging repeated attempts even after failure. However, the variety of builds and long-term progression options is relatively restrained, and over time the repetition inherent in procedural generation becomes more noticeable. While the sliding tile mechanic keeps exploration interesting, the surrounding systems do not always evolve enough to maintain the same level of novelty across extended play sessions. Visually, Loot River adopts a moody pixel art style that emphasizes atmosphere over detail. Dark palettes, murky lighting, and subtle environmental effects contribute to a somber tone that reinforces the game’s sense of isolation and decay. The flooded ruins and fragmented architecture feel cohesive with the game’s mechanics, as if the world itself is unstable and constantly shifting beneath the player’s feet. Sound design complements this approach, using ambient audio and restrained music to enhance tension without overwhelming the experience. Narrative elements are sparse and deliberately understated. The world’s lore is hinted at through environmental cues, cryptic NPC dialogue, and item descriptions rather than direct storytelling. This minimalist approach suits the game’s tone, allowing players to project their own interpretations onto the setting, but it also means that the story rarely provides strong motivation beyond survival and curiosity. Players seeking a rich or emotionally driven narrative may find this aspect underwhelming, while others will appreciate the ambiguity and focus on gameplay. Ultimately, Loot River feels like a bold experiment that prioritizes originality over polish. Its core idea—turning dungeon floors into movable puzzle pieces—is genuinely inventive and gives the game a distinct identity within a crowded genre. At the same time, uneven combat feel, limited progression depth, and occasional repetition prevent it from fully realizing its potential. For players who enjoy experimental mechanics, spatial problem-solving, and challenging action roguelikes, Loot River offers moments of brilliance and a concept unlike almost anything else available. It may not be a flawless execution, but it stands as a memorable example of how taking creative risks can lead to something truly distinctive, even when the results are imperfect. Rating: 6/10
