Reviews
Right off the bat, let me just say that Loop is fine, okay., average. It's not a bad game by any means, but it's also not great. I don't think anyone is really missing out on much if they don't play this. The art style and storytelling approach is decent enough, and at times reminded me of Monument Valley. The soundtrack is very minimalist until the times when it isn't, at which point it punches far above its weight. The gameplay mechanics are shallow, with the game definitely not needing to be any longer than it is. The simplicity of the mechanics and the lack of brainpower required to utilise them to solve the puzzles means that there's not really any sense of accomplishment. The game's egregious mistake, however—and the primary reason I'm saying "No" to recommending—is that one level has a bug in it that prevents the puzzle solution from being accepted as being complete unless the player does so in a very specific order. Typically, the game is quite good at stopping the player from soft-locking themselves, primarily by ensuring borders are left between blocks and the edges of platforms so they can be pushed back into play. However, this diligence is completely missing from the aforementioned glitched puzzle. There's questions about it in the Community forum on Steam. It's really an inexcusable error, that serves only to gaslight the player into thinking there's something they've missed. The rest of the game can't make up for this quite heinous oversight, unfortunately. It is, however, short, so (glitch puzzle aside) won't take up too much of the player's time, even if they shoot for all achievements. Including breaks and malding at the bugged level, I got all achievements in comfortably less than four hours. So it's not a game worth buying, I'd say. But if it's already in your library, it's a nice & quick one to take off your backlog without it being a horrible time. Hardly a great endorsement, I know. Hence the rating. (And yes, I'm still salty)
