Lonn is a game I would compare to "hubris". While it does not deliver the same level of graphic fidelity, the game oozes atmosphere. Lonn cannot decide if it wants to be a 5 out of 10, or a solid 7.5. Pacing feels a bit all over the place at times, but it has a story that is easy to digest. Levels are very open in terms of vertical movement, I often found at least three different paths I could take in levels. Loot! The devs seem to understand that loot is nice to find, and you will find this in the form of cred sticks and ammo. Exploration is therefore somewhat rewarding. The gunplay is quite different, and I would say that the shotgun and normal pistol feel the best. Your shots are rather slow so this means you have to learn how to lead them. Enemies try to take cover...sometimes. They are better than the enemies in "Hubris" so that is something. When Lonn works, it feels like a solid 7.5 you'll feel like a solid cyberninja with how smooth movement CAN be. Alas you will still get stuck on the enviroment quite a bit. The sword...sucks, sorry guys. That thing is a sledgehammer at best. Buy this game on sale, and you can expect about 6 hours from the campaign and additional playtime from the roguelike and freerun modes. Although after finishing the campaign I felt like doing neither. If the devs manage to make a sequel, and improve on their base concept they will have a banger. The bones are there and they have makeup on, but somehow they forgot the meat on their limbs and look silly. I would still recommend it though, when the game worked as intended it felt good and I did have fun.
The cyberpunk aesthetic is pretty great, not AAA quality but above average for indie, but that's the end of the list of positive things I have to say about this game. The only reason I'm not refunding this is because I only spent $3 on it. First of all, it stutters a LOT. It's not a framerate issue but the game actually hitching up every now and then. I don't really feel like investigating the cause since that's only the beginning of the list of issues. Next is the controls and locomotion. It aspires to be Half Life: Alyx but ends up being even jankier than Boneworks. Everything you do feels like a chore, even basic things like jumping and climbing ladders. The worst is the vaulting mechanic. In an effort to make it harder to slip off the object you're vaulting over, they made your hands stick to objects almost permanently. Sometimes you're not even trying to vault over something and your hand just gets stuck on some random object. You can even fall from a height or walk down stairs and you legs will sink into the ground causing your hands to get stuck to the ground! You have to wave your hands above your head to get unstuck. It's ridiculous. What I've played of the combat so far has been pretty weak, too. Not the worst but not fun, either. The game gives you a gun to use on 3 enemies during the tutorial and it was kind of crap to use but then they take the gun away and you don't even get to use that. They make you buy a knife but the knife sucks. It doesn't even work like an edged weapon. You just have to smack people with it like it's a tiny club which means you should immediately throw it away and take one of the enemy's baseball bats which is a slight upgrade. And that's the entirety of the combat for the first hour I've played it, not counting the 3 guys in the gun tutorial - just smacking people with a baseball bat in a game with subpar melee combat mechanics. It was not enjoyable. Overall, like I said, the aesthetics are pretty good but they can't even be enjoyed since the game isn't really fun and it doesn't run well. I can't recommend this unless it got a complete overhaul.
Ever wanted to play a Deus Ex game that was felt like it was made in Second Life? No? Ever wanted to have enemies engage in stale animated fist fights with you simply because you walked into them? No? How about getting stuck in a hole in order to retrieve a mandatory quest item using the absolute worst physics system in VR to date? I can tell there is an actual game here but the physics and lack of proper navigation make it borderline impossible to play.
JUST BUY IT IF IT'S ON A MASSIVE SALE. Controls are too clunky. Otherwise, the atmosphere is really great. But a VR game with clunky controls is hard to recommend as full price game.
I've been digging through my previous-binned-VR-games lately, I've played everything I own to death. Preface: I originally bought this game in early March 2023 and have tried to get into it several times since. The controls are a bit clunky, the enemies are a bit dumb, the weapons while not hit-scanners are super slow (projectile movement speed), the world has been built with love but definitely on a budget. With that said - I Loved it. Configure your controller to account for the rapidly advancing VR standards, ignore the fact you will be beating the s**t out of the same NPC multiple times because the NPCs want to fight to the death if THEY bump into you. Look past that and you have a game which ticks a lot of boxes, the story is thin but interesting, the parkour abilities are great. This games gets a lot of really good concepts and mechanics introduced to the player but then fails to do anything with them. This is not a criticism, the studio is a small indie and the fact they managed to cram this much goodness into a package this small is a wonder, genuinely. I really hope they make a sequel and build on the mechanics they introduced. The combat was good fun and on higher difficulty requires you to use the environment against the enemies, it is very easy to get overwhelmed. I had an absolute blast playing this game, loved it!
SKIBIDI RIZZLER SIGMA ALPHA TOILET MAN
Not worth at even $3. I respect the effort, but the game is not good. The controls and combat are horrendous, especially the hit registration. Indie devs need to stop spend all their time developing games far above their skill or budget.
It's ok, they went too hard on bad physics. Looks amazing tho.
Note to Valve: We need a 5-star rating system. I'll recommend this based on price and based on the truly terrible state of PCVR in 2024 - in that environment this game stands out as "good," despite the fact that it has an array of issues. It's reasonably fun, and more or less works. I think the devs tried a bit too hard on the whole realistic physics end of things; making basic functions like exiting the top of a ladder way too difficult. The holsters are a bit too far forward, leading to "auto ejecting" weapons from the holsters, kind of like what happens in The Walking Dead VR titles. Get it on sale and enjoy it for what it is, without too many expectations.
Lots of fun. Beautiful graphics and fun story. A little ambitious with all the physics but made for unique gameplay. Once you get the hang of it, its very enjoyable. Highly recommend
