Another rushed out and untested or finished product in the Victory at sea franchise. When playing the allies 1 german sub can take out 6-8 ships of a convoy with 2 destroyers or similar escorts defending it. The AI has zero difficulty finding convoys. As well as having hyper build and unlimited resources to max every building they have with an uncanny ability to learn every single tech in almost minutes. When playing the Axis You will be lucky to take out one transport/cargo ship when attacking with 6 or more submarines. The RNG is totally skewed to help the AI to a level that is beyond frustrating. For those of You who played their civil war release, You will remember the similar RNG nightmare skew. Could have been an enjoyable game. Yes there is a workshop but only 3 mods presumably made by one of the devs. None of the 3 workshop mods add anything helpful to the game. Buy it on super fire sale. While the devs are active in the forums the base game is just not fun because of the AI advantage. So sad. This could have been a good game. Victory at Sea Pacific seems to be the only release they got right and have been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up ever since.
needs better starting point needs better AI still love the VAS games but feel like the older one was better hope this gets more love and better starting points as of right now feels like the games starts with most of the progress dun for you should have more starting points. starting the game in 1940 as Germany is overwhelming VaS Pacific had a great starting point and you had to build up right at the onset of war with Japan i put over 100h in that game dont see my self doing the same here not yet anyway
7/7/2025 I must have posted 20+ bug reports / suggestions for improvement between the last update and this one and I'm happy to say the unbelievably responsive dev team has addressed nearly every one of them. Some couldn't be replicated, though other changes will still solve the problem. The game is really cooking now, and I can highly recommend it. Probably still another few bug report / patch cycles before it's really where we all want it to be but certainly can jump in at this point and have fun. --Pre-last patch impression-- I like WWII games, so I'm a bit biased. It's super rough right now and not for the faint-hearted. Keep in mind it's just out of early access, and probably a little too soon since what this game needs is a lot of testing and feedback (which is what early access is for). It's still fun if you're a manual player and like to take control of the sub's torpedoes yourself. Lots of room to grow and mature, though a solid concept. Edit: Extremely responsive developers. I submitted quite a few bug reports and they responded to every single one, either asking for more info or stating they were on top of it. Way to go, devs!
Extremely high potential to become best WW2 naval sim in market, after adding in a few more realism settings. Brilliant graphics of the weather and sea as well, delivered at good framerates utilizing the full power of my GPU & CPU so performance optimization is in a good state. Problem is, the game is too much in a state of incompleteness considering this game is NOT marked as early access and considering its price tag. Sure, the updates are coming at a decent pace, but all the yet-to-be-added aspects and ships and so on should have been added before launch.
I purchased this game nearly a year ago and the devs still haven't added any meaningful ships. The plane animation is also horrible. They squadrons are way too close together and the sounds for the guns still need a lot of work. Despite these suggestions from myself and others, the devs still have not made any changes that truly matter. There seems to be no effort in making sequels better than the previous games.
started a campaign, get attacked by subs, go to battlemap, No subs attack, no subs in sight, spend the next 30ish minutes fast forwarding to the edge of the map expecting an attack that never came. Get attacked by another sub... same slow process, no attacks, just fast forwarding.. This would be less of a problem if you were not restricted to 16x speed on battlemaps.. Auto resolving magically results in you losing 5-6 ships if its a convoy... it looks like it has big potential, i was really excited seeing the campaign map and the amount of stuff you can control.. But playing as Europe, the entire first part of the game should rightfully be protecting shipping in the Atlantic and being hounded by uboats and if every experience is 30+ minutes of fast forwarding for nothing, even in early access, thats just unplayable.. refunded for now, hopefully they fix it
Controls: Counter-intuitive AI: God awful General game design: Such a step backwards Overall: Avoid this.
Erst einmal vorweg.
I hope you guys keep going, the game is not perfect yet, but I have seen that it is improving, so do not give up, make the game better and better, you guys have the ability to make great games.
Revised: This game has many good features and improved graphics plus an underwater 3D space for subs to move around. The Devs are actively engaging, working on improvements, and providing helpful information. 1. When modding the files I discovered there is a lack of consistency of starting fleets after editing and adding new ones. Many of them don't start with the new campaign, and some of them only have a few show up as if they were randomly selected. There is a problem with the mods interface- when renaming a mod it still shows the previous name on the games mod selection. Also the game does not allow selecting more than mod to use. Also when updating mods the game workshop does not update with the new changes. I have to completely delete the mod from workshop, remove the workshop file from the folder, and send it to workshop as if it was never there before. This also removes all postings/chat for it. 2. When any units encounter an enemy a large box appears blocking your screen from seeing or doing anything. The popup requires entering combat, auto-resolving, or trying to escape. When entering into combat unlike Pacific you are stuck inside a Combat Arena -instead of being able to have AI control things so you can manage battles across the entire map. Requiring the combat arena ruins the open world seamless transitions. In Pacific I can travel across the ocean and engage enemy fleets while overseeing other battles -without a combat popup screen limiting what I can do. Recommend remaking Pacific without a battle arena -instead just update the graphics and include sub vs sub combat. You have my full support, and the support of many others.
