Handlung
Bei Light Fairy Tale Teil 2 handelt es sich um den zweiten von mutmaßlich drei Teilen. A great next episode for Light Fairytale, very enjoyable! Still gorgeous, still pleasant to play, still frustratingly short (one-man team, I get it) and now the wait for the next, and then final, episodes are going to be SO painful. I'd love to see a publisher pick this guy up and put some real funding behind him to get a "Light Fairytale Complete" or something. Really expand the game and make it bigger :) Oh well, now to wait for Ep 3!
kinda frustrating begginning with the lack of save points with some dumb oneshot enemies but more from that 1st episode its nice keep it up
After enjoying the first game, it was really disappointing how bad the second episode was. The game took the worst aspects of the combat from the first game and amplified them greatly. Basically; the short play time is only as long as it is because you have slow attacks, it takes several hits to hill enemies and you move slowly. If it was sped up slightly and you had normal encounters that weren't each painfully difficult AND painfully slow, it'd probably be maybe an hour worth of content. I didn't even finish this one and do not look forward to episode 3 because I can only imagine it getting worse. I mean, what's the point of your strongest attack being you normal non-energized beam sword? It's a slog just to get part way through (I got to the temple/castle/ruins and ran into punishing enemies) and I couldn't take it anymore.
Story is not the greatest aspect of this game, this jrpg looks interesting and is fun little game to play. Level transition is not the smoothest when you switch arias, but it is bearable an all in all this is simple indie game. Has around 3.5h of gameplay.
I like this a lot, played the first story and thought it was a great intro to the story and how the game is. This episode just takes everything from that and does it better in my opinion. Thank god for the fast forward button, I think I would have cried if I sat through all the battles in regular speed. The game is a pretty cool nod to rpgs like FF7, playing this kinda made me feel like what I was supposed to feel if I played FF7 back in the day. (never played the original)
Okay, by all means good game but oh my god the ending felt like a climax that you just get nothing out of- ALL of the work and none of the payoff. What WAS that? I hope part 3 isn't that jarring.
Light Fairytale Episode 2, developed and published by miyu.works, continues its retro-inspired role-playing journey by expanding the story, world-building, and emotional depth introduced in the previous chapter. Built as the second installment in an episodic RPG series inspired by classic Japanese role-playing games from earlier gaming generations, it combines turn-based combat, exploration, character-driven storytelling, and science-fiction themes into a focused experience that balances nostalgia with modern design sensibilities. Rather than existing as an isolated adventure, this installment feels designed as a continuation for players already invested in the larger mystery surrounding its underground world. The setting remains one of the strongest elements of the series. Civilization survives beneath the surface in an underground environment shaped by secrecy, political control, and fading hope. The world immediately separates itself from more traditional fantasy role-playing settings by embracing science-fiction influences and a more mysterious atmosphere. Players continue following Haru and his companions as they move deeper into dangerous territory while searching for answers connected to both their world and their own personal journeys. The narrative becomes more engaging because the groundwork established previously allows the story to move forward with greater confidence. Character relationships receive additional development while larger mysteries begin unfolding at a stronger pace. The game balances moments of quiet interaction with larger revelations, creating an experience that gradually rewards player investment rather than overwhelming players with information immediately. Haru continues to function as an effective lead character whose determination and curiosity naturally push progression forward. Supporting characters also benefit from increased attention, allowing emotional connections within the group to feel stronger over time. Dialogue remains an important part of the experience, helping reinforce personality and strengthen the sense of companionship that often defines memorable role-playing adventures. One of Episode 2’s strongest qualities comes from how effectively it captures the spirit of older Japanese RPG design while avoiding some of the frustrations associated with older systems. The game clearly draws inspiration from role-playing classics from previous decades, but menus remain efficient, pacing feels more streamlined, and progression avoids unnecessary complications. It respects nostalgic influences without becoming trapped by them. Combat remains turn-based and strategy-focused. Battles emphasize careful management of abilities, timing, and resource usage rather than relying on action-heavy systems. Enemy encounters encourage thoughtful decision-making while maintaining accessibility for players who prefer traditional role-playing mechanics. Combat complexity stays approachable without becoming overly simplified. The progression systems support long-term engagement effectively. Character development unfolds naturally as players advance through the story, creating satisfying growth without overwhelming players with excessive mechanical layers. Equipment upgrades and expanding combat options reinforce progression while maintaining a focused design philosophy. Exploration receives stronger attention throughout Episode 2 as well. New environments provide additional opportunities to uncover details about the underground civilization and larger mysteries shaping the narrative. The science-fiction setting creates a unique atmosphere that helps distinguish the series from fantasy-focused role-playing games. Exploring abandoned locations and unfamiliar territories creates a stronger sense of discovery throughout progression. Presentation remains another major strength. The visual design combines retro-inspired aesthetics with modern three-dimensional environments that preserve nostalgic charm without appearing outdated. Character models maintain personality while environmental design effectively supports atmosphere and storytelling. The balance between older inspirations and newer presentation techniques works particularly well. Music continues contributing heavily to immersion. Emotional moments benefit from strong audio direction while exploration sequences and larger story developments receive musical support that strengthens atmosphere without overwhelming quieter scenes. The soundtrack complements pacing naturally and reinforces emotional impact during important moments. One of the most impressive aspects of Light Fairytale Episode 2 is how much more comfortable the series feels within its identity. The game no longer spends large portions of time introducing basic concepts and instead builds momentum through stronger pacing and larger narrative developments. The result creates a more engaging experience overall. There are still limitations connected to the episodic structure. New players who skip earlier entries may struggle to fully appreciate certain story moments or emotional developments. The smaller scale compared to larger RPG productions also means certain systems remain more streamlined than genre veterans might expect. However, those decisions align naturally with the project’s goals. neko.works clearly aims to create a focused role-playing experience inspired by older RPG traditions rather than competing directly with massive modern productions. The game succeeds because it understands its priorities and builds consistently around them. What ultimately makes Light Fairytale Episode 2 stand out is how effectively it builds upon its predecessor while strengthening nearly every major area. Character development improves, exploration becomes more rewarding, and the larger mystery surrounding the world becomes increasingly compelling. For players who appreciate classic-inspired role-playing games, turn-based combat, emotional storytelling, and science-fiction settings filled with mystery and discovery, Light Fairytale Episode 2 delivers a satisfying continuation that honors its influences while continuing to establish its own identity. Rating: 8/10
Great episode. The best part is transferring your save file from episode 1 to episode 2.
