I finished the game and enjoyed it. I read about 5 books a month and I'm a writer and artist myself. It's not often that I would criticise the finale of a story, usually they go the way they go - it was the creator's decisions. The problem is that the choice system of this game allows for two distinct endings, and in order to accommodate both possibilities, the writing in the build up and dialogue refuses to lean concretely into either, which means that plot points, conflicts, and the theme cannot reinforce your decisions as they would if there were only one ending. This is different from something like Mass Effect, where you have different flavours of the same choice. In True Colours, there are two different choices, and though I picked one, I suspect neither resonated quite as strongly as they should have. The climax of the mystery that runs inside of the main story is also extremely poorly written, resulting in a courtroom style scene that is unrealistic and bafflingly long and over the top. That scene is obviously to accommodate the game systems reflecting your decisions, but the developers, and crucially, someone with sole editorial oversight, should have known much much better, and recognised how the scene would play. I enjoyed the game, but much of its cumulative thematic power and exploration of a story about reconciling seemingly opposing sides - the natural and supernatural, alien and familiar, loss and discovery - is lost because the game's story needs you to both have a home and also be your own home.
It is just meh Some side elements were good, i loved the part when we made Ducky happy during the spring festival, felt human. The music is unmemorable, none really spoke to me or had any impact on me. The main story is just bad, I'm all for corps being bad cause they are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, but my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god it is the most unoriginal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story in the world. Oh wow the corp covered up the fact they are awful and killed a person to cover it up again? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ original. If the game tried to tell anything political with it i would have been fine, BUT NO there is nothing. Also the "dramatic" reveal that the guy who helped us is actually terrible guy is such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad twist. Alex as a character and her power is barely explored, you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare scene where the game decides to drop most of her past story. Why? Why not deal with her past simultaneously with the story instead of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare scene? Your choices don't matter and i get it since the original game had the same issue but there at least there was some emotional baggage with it or uncertainty for the future. Here? Nothing. The final "choice/choices" are underwhelming and it doesn't matter. Do you forgive a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person the fact they killed 8 person (And tried to kill another one)? Oh wow so hard of a choice Or my fav do you leave or stay? Does it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matter? No. The game doesn't have any choices, it doesn't matter if the City Council agrees with your or not. Even though most of the choices just gives you a +1 for this invisible meter...
Life is Strange: True Colors is a beautiful, quiet experience that stayed with me more than I expected. It didn’t hit me as hard emotionally as the first game, but there were still moments where I just paused and thought, “Yeah… this is why I love this series.” Alex is a really well-written character. She feels human, with emotional edges you can actually feel and her story resonated with me a lot. The game looks gorgeous, the soundtrack is exceptional. Overall Not perfect, but definitely special.
maaaaaybe not a Life is Strange kinda story but I think this should have been called differently. I can't say I enjoyed the narrative as much as the other games...and I remember paying full price on this one when it released, But for around 10-20 euros, it isn't so bad for the amount of time you will play, but is the most boring one this time around
bomb
The game is good. A 7/10. I do not recommend the dlc tho. it is boring. it is a bit interesting to know more about steph, but the gameplay was very boring to me. I recommend the main game tho. The story is great and the gameplay is alright.
COULDN'T STAND THE PLOT - All because of the b*tch a** kid. Felt like the slap the sh*t out of him! Pros (which are very well done) - Music, sound track & sound design - Emotion portrayal & character depth - Easter eggs connecting to the previous titles - Overall visuals - Optimization
In Life is Strange: True Colors, you take on the role of a young woman, Alex, that has just arrived at a small, idyllic, mining town in Colorado to reunite with her brother after spending the previous 8 years in a group foster home. Alex has the ability to sense the emotions of others and at times can feel exactly what they feel. This effectively gives her the ability to read minds, which gives her a bit of a leg up when it comes to interacting with other people. At its core, True Colors is effectively a melancholic walking simulator with character interactions and the occasional choice that affects the narrative in small ways. Much of the enjoyment for me was found interacting with various objects throughout the scenes and listening to Alex's thoughts. The overarching plotline is a little on the cliche side and the twists felt a bit too telegraphed; I wouldn't recommend plowing through just to finish the main storyline -- it's arguably the weakest part of the game. With the exception of one character, I thought the voice acting was very well done and the graphics and music are also pretty good. Overall, I liked Life is Strange: True Colors, particularly the characters and while the overall plot is nothing overly compelling, I did enjoy this game, even if it was a bit sad at times.
