Little variety between levels. Even with crystal letters, plague times, and other effects, it all feels the same. Stage 1: spell words to win, basically impossible to lose Stage 2: spell words with a time constraint Stage 3: spell longer words to win Stage 4: forces to use items or die
If you wanted to play Bookworm Adventures on Steam, this is probably the closest you'll get as far as I'm aware. Had a fun time playing this on mobile, so I 100%'d it here. You can't go wrong with this game especially on sale.
Game doesn't accept my pronouns as valid words, 7/10
Enfim, recomendo.
As non-native english speaker, a decade later I can finally challenge my vocabulary.
She book on my worm until I adventures.
Great word puzzle game to pass the time. It does get a bit repetitive but there's only so many mechanics you can do I suppose.
It's a great game overall, if you played bookworm adventures it's almost exactly the same. Some differences, time trials and difficult stages are added which I think is a plus. The story is basically nonexistent, you don't play this game for the story. Rather than getting treasures from bosses you get currency for beating any enemy even if you lose on a level, I don't know if it's better or worse. The music doesn't have much variety but it's catchy. You can type with a keyboard, at least for the letters; not sure if you can use the keyboard to consume potions. There aren't many difficult choices for what to buy since what's optimal is obvious so if you're looking for everything to be relevant you picked the wrong game. However, this is generally meant to be a fairly laid back easy game aside from time trials and those can get easier later when you get the right book. There are some problems about a third of the way into the game and lesser problems before that. The lesser problems are some enemies will transform your tiles to a single letter which usually is terrible, but it could be worse. The worse thing is certain enemies take no damage aside from specific circumstances like a word starting with a vowel or because they're vulnerable to the letter Q the devs felt justified in giving it high damage and health. This means unlike Bookworm Adventures you are required to shuffle sometimes or have very little choice which just feels like bad design. Remember that new gimmicks to a game doesn't always make it better.
It's a nice looking word game with some rpg like elements but not really a big story. You basically fight monsters by spelling out words, upgrade your stats, and buy items to help you on your journey. I liked upgrading at first but then a lot of the upgrades didnt seem to change much so I just bought them to buy them. I think its a great concept of a game and would like to see more like it, with more variety in weapons/upgrades/monsters.
If you're looking for something to scratch the itch of Bookworm Adventures, this is a worthy successor. It expands on the formula with more challenges, status conditions, and new types of upgrades. The negative reviews are unfortunately not wrong about the dictionary, and the game rejects a word about every 30 minutes. It isn't a lot on the whole but is certainly enough to notice. Unlike BWA, levels can be replayed, and upgrades are not automatic but instead purchased with currency from levels/achievements. Given the level of customization for characters/tiles/weapon/soundtrack, there's plenty to keep things fresh. Recommended.
