I really like the aesthetics of the desserts, they look delicious! This game has a perfect mix of cozy vibes and an addictive gameplay loop. The unlockable perks are really useful, making it a stress-free way to run your own little bakery. Additionally, you can put cats up for adoption, have a ghost as a waiter, and grow your own ingredients in the greenhouse-barn where you can take care of a little cow that is absolutely adorable!
Let me start this off: I really, really want to like this game. The core gameplay is fun. Unlocking new recipes and the principle of buying upgrades is fun. Even the little bug mini game is fun. However, this is where the fun ends for me: polishing. Sprinting feels as if your character was sliding on the ground, picking things up & putting things down is super finicky - especially bothersome during the lunch time rush. One of my biggest gripes is that if you unlock the rails and place the wrong item in the cart you're esentially downgraded yourself for the rest of the day because there's no way to get the item off and free the cart again. I was still playing though because the graphics are nice and as previously mentioned the core gameplay is fun. What made me want to write this review is unlocking the assitant. I wish I could undo it. It feels like buying out one part of the upgrade tree would be one of the big moments in the game and the description ensures that spending this much money on the assistant is going to be super helpful! Instead, I find myself absolutely flabberghasted. Sure, the displays being filled up and the tables being wiped seem nice. I would gladly do it myself again, given the added stress and time crunching needed due to the ghost taking everyone's orders right away and starting the timer instantly! After getting the upgrade I am genuinely making less money each day than before. What should be an upgrade feels like a downgrade. It makes me wonder: am I really the only one? Did the devs not playtest this and see how frustrating this would be, especially when you're already inconvenienced by a bunch of the "small" things that make this game less enjoyable than you'd wish it to be? If none of this bothers you, please pick it up. It's easy to tell that a lot of hard work and love went into this game. If you're looking for a smooth experience to wind down then don't, other games play that role better.
Don't let this game fool you. It's not a relaxing cozy game. This game is hectic. It has a cozy art style, and it's very cute, but it doesn't have cozy vibes. Basically, you get to a bakery and run it. The days are fairly short, there are cute little animals you clean up and care for, you have a little garden you need to water periodically, and customers come in to buy goods you bake. But you can't really do much prep work aside from filling your window displays. You get a couple of upgrades that allow you to prep maybe 2 extra items outside of the displays, but everything else you make as you go. On top of that, there's a lunch rush- and it makes you FEEL rushed. your displays empty quickly if you can't keep up the pace it sets, and if you don't have certain upgrades, you have to run to water you plants and brush your animals and refill your fireplace SO MUCH, on TOP of cleaning the patches of mess that pop up in the bakery itself that slow you down. (this part isn't a big deal, but there's also a minigame I don't like that pops up where an inspector comes and makes you catch bugs; and there isn't any way to turn it off or avoid it). It also periodically doesn't pick things up when you try to, even if the thing is highlighted, but I think that may just be user error xD REGARDLESS of the above, I do really enjoy this game. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, because I watched my favorite streamer play it. I knew it would be chaotic. I just wanted people to be aware that it is chaos, because the game itself claims it's cozy, and I don't think it should. If you like hectic chaotic running around, you may like this game. The art is cute, the little baked goods look delicious, there's little kitties that are absolutely precious and you can pet them (even though the petting option is a very sad pet), and I absolutely love the cow and the little chimkins <3
It's a very long and repetitive game. It's the exact same task every day. I had to pick up and put down multiple times just due to quick boredom. (My hours is so high because sometimes I'm sitting on the pause screen just cause it's a lil boring.) If you're a long-time achievement hunter or someone who enjoys the grind, this is the game for you. HOWEVER, there are some bugs and the movement is a little lagging/glitchy. Notable Bugs I Remembered: Assistant sometimes double picks up items at the window and loses both items. Assistant doesn't register to pick up items at the window, forcing the player to pick up and drop the item at the window. Not a bug, just a grimace: - Player gets stuck behind NPCs and they don't move out of the way. It's a fast paced game during lunch time, MOVE!!! But overall, it's cute, it's inclusive in character customization, the art style is adorable and fits the comfy-cozy vibe, and it's like a little slice of cake - sweet and cute. Did I mention that it's cute? No? Well, it is.
Best in small doses, as the controls are just a little too loose and slippery to feel good; the item juggling is awkward - particularly once you unlock the ingredient delivery trolly, it's easy to miss-aim, there's only one safe place to put items... most of all I really dislike needing to declare which item I intend to make before I'm allowed to put items into the bowl. So, I play it in smalls doses to enjoy the cute, then when I start to become irritated I stop.
Great game, definitely scratched the Diner Dash itch if that's a vibe you're looking for.
Lemon Cake was one of my first cozy games. Great graphics. I especially love how your bedroom looks and the cow design. Loved the different recipes and how the game encourages you to switch up your menu daily to get the most potential profits for the day. What really makes this stand apart from other cooking games is that you don't have to deal with the chaos of angry customers. It isn't punishing when you don't get items to customers on time. The addition of the cat adoptions is also very cute. Works well on Steam Deck and Switch.
It is a cozy little game where you serve cakes. If you are looking for something hard or challenging this is NOT for you. I mostly just play it, when i wanna do something mindless and listen to something.
cozy, but can get stressfull
This game was more stressful than I cared to experience. It puts obstacles that are routine breaking while you're trying to make the desserts for your customers: sweeping the dirt from the floors that slow you down, having to brush down animals or watering the fruit plants so that they produce their ingredients. And for what? A small amount of money. Meanwhile the upgrades cost a lot of money so you have to grind the levels over and over to accrue enough money to buy the upgrades. Playing this game was more like a job than a game I can enjoy. Got so sick of the grind for little money that I just stopped and uninstalled it. To hell with how the bakery turns out. Even the positive reviews said when you upgrade, they remove the old stress, but add new things that will stress you out. No thank you. There are better games that aren't grindy to upgrade, that don't have things breaking down or having desserts burning in the oven because you couldn't get to them in time, just to fill out the game. The grind and obstacles in the way while you're trying to prepare the desserts just aren't worth my time when they cause stress instead of relaxation and fun. And for that, I can't recommend this game. Save your money for better designed games.
