1.5/10
Extremely bad "adventurer guild" game like Iron Oath (or probably Battle Brothers). Almost everything is shockingly poorly done.
Pros:
- Music is actually quite good
Cons:
- Game constantly doesn't communicate critical information. Like my characters don't say what their class can equip and gear literally doesn't say either. How am I supposed to know? - When you're moving towards a mission on the map, you can't seem to stop or redirect your group. They just mindlessly charge towards the mission even if it's a continent away - Combat is extremely poor. Everything looks the same, enemies look like allies, everything blends into the background. I don't know what clicking does because it changes and it doesn't tell me. It doesn't seem to automatically select the next ally. I don't know what's going on and there's no combat log or anything. Just a complete mess - Maybe I didn't get far enough, but there are no dungeons or anything, you just move from one town to the next and fight bandits - Unit text in combat is miniscule even with max UI/text scaling - Characters are extremely ugly - Everything else
Still a bit rough around the edges but responsive dev and alot of good changes make this game worth the price of admission. High magic, small squad management fantasy setting game, plays a bit like battle brothers. Lots of skills, decent loot variety and variety of classes keep things interesting. As far as cons, some of the systems are quite opaque, leveling up is *very* random and sometimes it feels like there's nothing to do or impact, but game is still actively in development so expect further improvements, and as of the most recent update I can say that it's worth the price in it's current state.

a nice hidden gem, takes inspiration from battle brothers but it stands on its own merits, character building is quite deep with lot of perks, some classes and a dicey twist on level up. Itemization let me down at first glance cause all i saw was tiered weapons (normal, good, master) but turns out there are legendary and some of em have some fuzzy effects. On the background there is a dynamic worldmap, with faction at war, with or without your help, and game changing events : elves were destroyed by humans in my map but lot of days later they are trying to get back their homelands while orcs are destroying every settlement they encounter. Recommended for those who are into sandbox/turn based games and don't mind taking some punishment, because don't be fooled by cartoony graphics your butt gonna be kicked.
Fun game. Frustrating at times and still a little rough around the edges. But it's definitely an interesting take on the Battle Brothers genre and kept me entertained for 40+ hours already. The developer is still actively working on polishing this game, so I look forward to more improvements in the future.
I really wanted to like this game. Sadly there were just too many issues that ate away at any sense of enjoyment. Poorly balanced. Surprisingly shallow. Oddly laggy between menus considering the graphical simplicity. Badly paced. Absurd finances. Inability to get information on mercenaries before hiring them. It dragged, it lagged. More frustrating than fun.
The inevitable comparison to Battle Bros is that this is for those who like hard core serious play. BUT it is essentially very random. More so than BB ever has been. In the very beginning you can start with 10k gold and still be completely disadvantaged by bad rolls. Even on the "very easy" setting. It seems to me the dev has a very narrow idea of difficulty. While I appreciate indie game devs doing their thing, we have BB which while not perfectly balanced feels much smoother and less punishing. Even without legs. Pros: Graphics: in the style of another bros-like, Urtuk, the desolation (which I DO recommend), the graphics have that hand drawn style which somehow blends well with the fantasy medieval world setting. A++ Sound: Not really sure since I automatically turn music off on most of my games. My general experience is game music is either OK or really jarring and I prefer to avoid aural nightmares. Quests: This a good and bad thing. The good is that there is a really wide variety of possible quests. A+ Traits: Another mixed bag. There are a wide variety of choices and depending on what you "roll" when a character levels up you might get some of those. Some traits seem like must haves for minimal surival. (Tough, Fit, etc). Egalitarian and legged: Yep there are women mercs and they have legs. All the mercs have legs. And the mercs have quirks which I like. Even the bad ones. This is a step up for certain. If the gameplay were not so imbalanced this would push my rating much closer to a yes. Cons: Balance: Combat is either a breeze or a total crapshoot or a walk through hell. I mean that last in a bad way. You may literally have no chance in many combats. Even 1 skull quests can be extremely deadly. Don't let those rats fool you, they will eat your spleen. Traits: you might roll badly but you will at least get some semblence of a choice. However many traits seem to do nothing interesting. And there doesn't seem to be a lot of point in gaining 1-2 pts in a stat. Combat: Entirely based on die rolls. Strategic decisions do not seem relevant and there do not appear to be any tactical decisions to make. Roll the dice and if you lose, rip. Unforgiving system is unforgiving. Even on "very easy" again the Dev seems to have a very narrow idea of difficulty. (I expect this is mostly due to having a very expert fan base.) Gear: seems mostly inconsequential and unimportant beyond, are you using a weapon? Do you have any profciency in it? No? Oh too bad. If you live maybe you will get some. Oh you die at level 2-3 consistently? Too bad, that master weapon you bought sure seemed like a good idea at the time... The game is not all bad. But it is a real come down in terms of expectations. I was hoping for a smoother experience than BB not worse or less fun. BB is fun mind you, but here the flaws in BB are magnified and made glaring. Hopefully someday it will improve but today is not that day imho. This game would still get a hard no from me were there a non-binary rating system(which is odd for me because usually I am more ambivalent about games I don't love.) as I feel like it is not ready for public consumption yet. That said, the dev is active and seems to care and maybe at some point they will smooth the game a bit for a wider audience appeal than the hardcore fans he has now. As I said before the game does somethings very right. Legs, egalitarian mercs, decent to excellent graphics all mark the game as something to watch out for. But the balance... :(
If you liked Battle Brothers, then you certainly will like this game. In my opinion it is actually better then BB. It's better than BB for three reasons. Frist there no limit to leveling. I hated that about BB. Once I got all my fighters maxed out in BB, I just lost interest. Second there is a lot of different types of magic. Not just for wizards but also anyone else if you can find the right gear. In BB there was some enemy magic, but you will have none. This makes for some interesting combat as you go through the game. With the right magical gear or spells you can fight in different ways. BB was just melee and ranged attacks. Third there are some difficult fights for you out there, but because you can always level and get rare gear. It possible to win these fights. In BB, there were a lot of potential fights that were just impossible no matter the difficulty.
This is quite the fun experience. Do yourself and the dev a favor and get it. If it sounds like something you would enjoy, there is a great chance you will love it. I know I do!
A fun tactical sandbox with a decent amount of content.
