So, I really wanted to like this game, REALLY wanted to. I have been playing games for over 30 years and this one pulls at my nostalgic heartstrings. However when there are mechanics that I just can't understand, I have to admit defeat. My biggest two issues are the lack of any discussion related to the spellcasting system. I was able to create 3 different spells. Easy chesy. But I couldn't find a way to cast any of them. The second is the cursed items process. There is no way to identify if an item is cursed until you put it on(even unenchanted items can be cursed). Once the cursed item is put on, it reduces your experience and it reduces your damage. The instructions in the gae say that you need to go to an oracle stone to find out what the curse is, then go to a shrine and remove it. Well Both of those are outside the town...significantly. So then you get a low level character, hinder their ability to advance, then put the things needed to get rid of the curse out in an area where the character will get slaughtered before reaching....don't even try to go at night. If you want a game that will make you frustrated at every step, get Dark Souls. The graphics are better and thearea balance tracks with your area. If you wat a point and click nostalgia piece, just get Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale. There is a reason this one was pulled down and relaunched.I do shudder to think of what the original was like.
Even with the "Reborn" tag the game is not playable. The horrid pathfinding prevented the game from being playable. Game would freeze and crash trying to cross bridges, enter ships, walk up stairs, etc. Too many facets of the game just don't work. Feels like an early alpha build.
It's still a pretty terrible game. Graphics are improved with the new engine. Still no idea how to regenerate magic, or do much of anything, really. First quest in the game is a perfect example of what the game is like- the guy at the dock asks you to get him 'a beer'. So you bring him the item, Beer- that's not the right item. You have to specifically buy him some special type of drink. Merchants are not labelled, and there is no real way to tell which NPC is talking to you. All of these issues were there at launch a few years ago. Do not buy this game, do not buy the old version, do not buy the new game they are developing.
This is the only Kickstarter project that I have ever regretted backing and I've even backed a few projects that failed to deliver a product entirely. I'd rather have the developers try hard to make a game and fail than deliver a game that is so far from what was promised. It is buggy, the controls are a mess, and the graphics are mediocre at best. I do not recommend purchasing this game. I should also note that I haven't played the reborn version much. I played the first version more and when I got this in my library, I gave it a try but quit in only 5 minutes when I discovered bugs that kept me from even running the game.
Goodness gracious me. I got into this thinking it was going to be a cool old school RPG. It's just not fun at all. I've put 55 hours into this hoping it would get better but so far I have not been rewarded. The game play is clunky, the battles are boring and the character misses about 60-70% of the time when swinging at enemies. Had the potential to be something awesome. Don't waste your time.
Warning, this game is very bad and still expensive, don't buy it even if Steam pays you, I'm serious. Got this game, or better (if you can call it), before Dreamatrix re-released it as the Reborn version with a big discount. BIG error. Made a negative review back then, as the game was awful. What can I say? Dreamatrix says it fixed the game, but the gameplay is as horrible as before, framerate is very low, even with a good pc. I pity the players who helped to fund this game on Kickstarter - so many promises, all broken. Dreamatrix, get your game back and please don't mess it anymore. -10/10
My initial reaction to this game was anger and frusteration with having absolutley nothing explained, and being tossed into an environment that I have no guidance. However, the more I pushed through, the more i slowly began to enjoy the game. Does it still frusterate me? Yes. However, when I discover how to play for myself I feel more rewarded. To me it brought back Morrowind. A game that only gives you a basic tutorial, and thrusts you out into a world full of wonder and a destiny you have to forge yourself.
This is even hotter garbage than before, with the devs trying to pass this off as a "updated" version of the game. Maybe two or three bugs were worked on and removed in that time—other than that, it's still terrible. I'm actually giving this a lower score than the first version due to the attempted manipulation from the devs. Shameful.
2/10
I give it a try but it's bad. Doesn't look spectacular but if gameplay would be good is should be enough but gameplay is even worse than visulas. Everything is so clunky, doing anything is tedious, no tutorials or any explanations whatsoever, no music, basic sound effects, game feels empty, ui doesn't scale so no playing in 4k, combat is very unsatisfying and particle effects or attacks looks bad and sometimes make game runs at 5fps or so on my 1950x and 280RTX :)
There really, really, really needs to be a 50/50 receommendation option... Not just yes or no. Why, well, because I'd like to recommend the game based on the open world aspect, as well as all the little details that went into making this game. From things like spell crafting all the way to the smaller details like picking locks. BUT..... There are quite a few points about this game that make me cringe whenever I try to play. And I have played both the original, and have started to play the "reborn" version (and I say that lightly, because like many others have said, not much has changed.) My biggest gripe, and some would see this as something not worth griping about, is movement, or travelling, etc. It takes a dog's age to get anywhere! There is no "fast travelling". Then add that to the already slow and clunky moving character, and well. Hope you're up for long journeys from A to B. Which leads me to my next gripe. There is absolutely no quest markers, at all. What kind of adventurer would go out on a quest and not mark their map in some way so that they know where they should go, where they should look, and who to return to once the objective is complete? You can easily spend several hours just trying to figure out who it was that gave you what quests, and where the heck you're supposed to even go to begin, let alone finish... oh, and once you do figure it out, it takes FOREVER to get there and back again. Don't get me wrong. The game has got a lot going for it. But some times it's the little things that can really make or break. I, for one, will continue to bust through this, it might just take me a year or two to do it. :-)
