Well Kev congratz on exiting early access. I haven't played this game for quite a while and I never did complete it but that's just me. Figured I might as well leave a review seeing as how I got far enough into the game to give my 2 cents. I highly recommend the game, The dev is really great at fixing anything that comes up, has worked hard to get the resolution support up to todays standards. It's a blobber what can I say, it's fun, decently long, tons of spells and skills, it has enough old school vibe. My only real negative I could give the game is if you click on the view the quick reference under visit the website, you'll see the world map. Sadly at least for this game for now Umbrea is the only continent in the game, this is one of the main reasons I never finished the game as it was pretty disappointing for me. It's more of a me thing than a dev thing when I see a world I get excited and I felt a bit let down, but hey it does leave the door open for future content if he wants to do it. Anyway the game is great either way it's a passion project you can tell, and Kev is even excited for a few new games coming out so he's an actual gamer himself. For what you get the price is a steal so give it a go. Cheers
Worth it! Hours and hours of old school fun, very much like Might and Magic. Not a super polished AAA title, but more fun than first glance might show, and looks to be a full length (60+) hour game. This has: Big main quest, huge world with many locations, good variety of monsters and dungeon layout, lots of skills and magic to get tactical with in turned based combat, interesting character progression, several classes (you'll recognize them all), and a steady game with no crashes or game-breaking bugs after many hours offline. And oh yeah, it's NOT pixel graphics. Enemies are visible on the map -you can seek or avoid fights. After 20 some hours, I've collected 1 of 4 special things for the main quest, and who knows how far it goes after I get all 4. This doesn't have: triple-A budget and huge development team. This is an ambitious effort by a small team (maybe one guy). Graphics aren't amazing (but they're not ugly pixels.) There's no voice acting. Groups of enemies routinely clip through each other and landscape. That goblin is half-buried in a hill, and that ogre is so close he's an empty polygon shell, and that kobold who just half killed my mage is standing on the other side of the wall. Sometimes, esp on the Elderwood Forest map, assets just kinda float on top of each other. The engine solves me running into a town person the same way -my team kinda staggers up and OVER the person and then returns to the ground. These things do NOT affect gameplay but might break the immersion for you. Past the first couple of areas, the NPC's have not given many side quests for extra reasons to go clear out areas. Other things to be aware of: Visit Druinport early to train some skills and gear up a little. Unfortunately, it's full of rats and you move slowly. Both of these are fixable, since you can get a quest to deal with the rats and a skill to move faster. Still, it was the only really tedious part so far, and you'll probably hit it early, so don't judge the game by that bit. The skill system (systems?) are cool, but have a lot of pieces. The merchant screens don't say what you already have learned or what you have equipped... More than once, I've wasted money on something I can't use or passed up something I thought I had, and merchant inventory changes every time you exit. I've been taking screenshots of the skills (and skill levels) my team has for when I go shopping. I made a little chart for gear stats. It rains a lot, and the rain effects are great, but it's a prettier world in the sunlight. Other notes: Character building is fun, but I started a second play through because I felt like I had messed it up. I didn't end up using a couple of skills at all but spent a lot of points in them early on. Two cities that were supposed to have expert staff trainers didn't actually have them...the only bug I encountered. So I restarted b/c I don't think there's a way to respec. The game is good enough I didn't MIND restarting, and flexible enough to build characters in several ways. Oh, and my mage uses a dagger this time due to the staves union strike. So, with some awareness of what this isn't, you've got many hours of enjoyment for just a few dollars. Go for it!
I see great potential for an old world type game. If you never played this type of game you are in for a treat.
if you enjoy just having fun it is fun for me. not an easy game. but fun for me
Thank you so much for changing the game so that everything is legible!! I apologize for the initial bad review, but if I had a way to contact you, I would have done so at first.. I absolutely hate leaving negative feedback.. Let people know how to contact you in the future!! Again thank you very much for this correction.. Now I can enjoy your game!!
This SHOULD be my kind of game. The core gameplay part is nice - kind of Wizardry 8-esque. A few fun classes, some interesting abilities, very indie and missing some QOL that is annoying but one can live with (you don't start with abilities, you get ability books in your inventory you have to use on the correct character, which... c'moooon). This gets a thumbs down because on top of all of the above, the UI is absolutely atrocious. I run 1920x1080, which I think is pretty standard. Some of the fonts are way too small. Some of the buttons don't scale well at all. The paper doll for your character's equipment slots is totally messed up and off center to anything that would remotely make sense. This makes it unplayable, when half of the words are too tiny to read and you're fighting the UI more than enjoying the game. It breaks my heart, but don't even get this on sale.
Old school game like Might and Magic, lots to explore.
game reminded me of might and magic 6, a lot of bugs and a lot of fun :)
