Nice to see the game on another platform. If you like Legendary Marvel then you will like this as it is the same game just without the Marvel Licensing.
I have never written a review for a game before, but this game is so offensive I had too. Do not play this game until they fix it or change some of the features. First of all I bought this way back when it cost money and it was ok the UI was a little clunky and animations dragged a bit, but it allowed you to play solo matches fine. I tried matchmaking then and unfortunatley could never find a match. Fast forward to now and I decided to play some legendary DXP and nocited they added a bunch of features, a campaign, challanges, ai companions, different matchmaking modes, and more cards. Wow this is great I thought I can't wait to play more. So I mostly play solo and decided to play with the AI, first of all the AI is terrible, you are better off playing two handed and rolling a dice to make the decisions. Now this would be more acceptable if we had the option to play multiple hands, because certain schemes and villians don't work great with the solo rules. Although the biggest issue is that I tried to play four matches and only completed 2, the other two timed out, and every single match had to reconnect to the server at least once, because OF COURSE IN ORDER TO PLAY SOLO YOU NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE DAMN SERVERS. Of course makes perfect sense when I want to play the solo version of a digital board game I need to be connected to the internet. Not only that the net code seems to have been written by a early 2000s chat bot because it is almost impossible to go 3 or 4 turns before there is a connection issue and possible the game just gets stuck in an infinite loop trying to connect to the servers. I would literally be better off taking my hard copy of legendary to starbucks and just randomly staring at people until somebody would join me and play. Then I thought ok lets try the campaign, well guess what THE DAMN CAMPAIGN IS STUCK TO A HORRIBLE ENERGY SYSTEM! I haven't seen an energy system on a free to play game since candy crush let alone a game I payed full price for before and bought the expansions. Wow well done you guys have literally made a digit al version that is more cumbersome and difficult to play then setting up the physical version. It would be like if someone made a calculator so terrible that people decided to just ocunt on their fingers instead, BECAUSE THE DAMN CALCULATOR JUST KEPT GETTING STUCK TRYING TO CONNECT TO THE SERVERS. Do not download this game, I believe this game will in the future be used a torture device in order to interrogate criminals, similar to stress positions and water boarding. Do yourself a favour buy the hard copy set it up play with yourself or play with some friends and if you really want to play this version you could easily simulate it by trying to play your hard copy during a hurricane with your hands tied behind your back. At least then you'd be able to play a match. Devs if you see this please add a offline mode where you can still level up and earn points for packs if you play by yourself like you had before! And remove this stupid energy system and just have some sort of fee trial of the campaign up to a certain point and maybe pay for the rest. Until then I will uninstall this garbage and go play the hard copy.

A terrible port of an excellent tabletop card game. The Cons: - The game constantly disconnects and has to reconnect, wasting the player's time. You may spend 10-25% of your time lagged out waiting for the game to reconnect and respond. - Much of the game is locked behind their energy system, even when you purchase the game. - The game doesn't even follow the posted rules, requiring the player to KO cards upon drawing a Scheme Twist card, even when the specific scheme doesn't call for it. Given that the failure conditions can be linked directly to the Hero Deck, that's a problem... especially with the energy system. - The game doesn't have working forums to report issues and the designers don't seem to reply to issues posted by the Steam community. The Pros: - The card game is great in all of its incarnations. Buy one of them instead.
A second revision for my review. I have spent nearly 300 hours in this game, so you'd think I'd somehow manage to be positive about it, but sadly that's not the case. Most of that time was spent in bursts of bug testing to try and get the developers to fix the game. On the plus side, the developers did finally take some action and sort out the worst of the bugs. You can actually play a whole game without wondering if you've been the victim of a practical joke. This is good. If bugs from the past were the only thing keeping you from playing, now is a great time to pick it back up again. The remaining bugs are easily overlooked (things like clicks not being super responsive, double-click not being universal, the faster animations being somewhat of a lie because you still have to wait the normal amount of time before you can make a move after hitting the play all button, just stupid stuff like that). There's now a chat feature that I imagine is too awkward on mobile devices, so no-one uses it. It takes the same space as the area you use to confirm certain choices, so it's very hard to justify looking at it. There's also a "watch other people play" feature, so you can peek in on someone else's game. This has the interesting side effect of letting you see that in fact some people do still play, except they are all playing the solo "story" missions, which are like a bad version of a campaign. At one point these solo missions had a weak background story for each level that didn't really make any sense, but now even those are gone. Now you're just left with a very bizarre form of Legendary - play solo, using custom setups, and try to beat arbitrary point limits. Some of the levels are tuned so poorly that you can only beat the top tier if the deck randomisation favours you _hard_, which makes the level more like playing a slot machine that takes fifteen minutes to finish spinning. The latest update added "two" new features. One is a supposedly improved item viewer for all the useless fluff they give out as rewards, or hope you will buy. Custom card backs, avatar images, board graphics, that kind of thing. Only, the viewer isn't improved; it's still the same as it was in the previous version. I don't know if they just forgot to update it, or included a news item a version too early. The other new feature is providing "lore" for the characters. You can now read some CRIMINALLY AWFUL writing about the characters. Even ignoring the spelling and grammatical mistakes (which are fairly numerous), the writing is terrible. You would think these stories were the winners of a five-year-olds' writing contest. The interface for this on PC leaves the end of the text off the bottom of the screen and won't actually let you scroll to see it all (you can drag the text up with the mouse and hold it there, otherwise it will bounce back down). The end of the longest piece, a repetitive and truly awful piece for Disaray, can't be read at all unless you reduce the font size to the smallest possible value. It's unclear how these things get past even the most cursory QA. Besides that, the game still flounders. I believe this is for some obvious reasons: 1) Little to no co-op interest, from the developers or most of the committed players. The vast majority of Legendary fans are all about that co-operative beat-the-game feeling, and you don't get that from cut-throat gauntlet modes or playing with stupid and predictable AI teammates. 2) Still no new expansions, and according to the developers there are unlikely to be any. Imagine you bought the base set, and two small expansions, and then nothing else for years. You played Dark City and X-Men at a friend's place, but still decided not to pick them up yourself. Would you still be playing Legendary at home four years later? It honestly doesn't bear thinking about, but that's the situation with DXP. 3) In one of the Upper Deck streams, it was asked whether they would add any of the other expansions, and the answer was a fairly indirect "no". Instead, they want to use DXP players as a sort of unpaid QA for new card ideas for the Marvel game. So you might get to test aspects of the next Mastermind, or a new game mechanic before it's refined and included in the real-life game, but you're never going to get Dark City. The latest thing seems to be to try and drum up interest with a cash-prize tournament for up to 32 players, once again prioritising competitive behaviour in a co-operative game. It's safe to say these people _will never learn_, and DXP will be stuck as an unpopular curiosity for the rest of its lifespan. [Late edit] I have one more complaint, and this might be my own naivete showing, but I went back and read some of the earliest positive reviews, and a number of them were from the developers themselves. I can understand soliciting reviews from Discord users, but having staff post fake positive reviews leaves an extremely poor taste in the mouth.
Great game. Every card has unique effects so no 1 game is exactly the same. There are multiple ways to play with cooperative quick matches, competitive gauntlets, and more! The community is great and the devs are super responsive through Discord if you have any questions or find a stray squirrel in the system. Overall, a good time :)
I wantted really badly to love this game-- I love playing Marvel Legendary (tabletop) and this is pretty much the same but without Marvel attached. However, Legendary DXP carries some pretty major flaws, before even considering the abrupt change to F2P that leaves me feeling screwed over. Negatives: -UI just makes it feel bloated. Everything feels slow. I don't tend to be impatiant, but when I play this I feel irritated waiting for things to happen-- not when other players play mind you, but when the computer needs to do something. -Buggy as all get out I tend to not get too hung up on bugs because they can be fixed. But some bugs are obvious and huge and even a single playtest would seem to catch. Every version has had some like that, most recently, every scheme twist card drawn would also KO a hero from HQ. I played three different set-ups to see if it was some hidden mechanic i wasn't understanding (which isn't uncommon in this version!), it wasn't. -The 'shuffling' seems bad. Legendary is a card game and this is a digitilized version of that. Even in the tabletop game, sometimes it feels you may have just been shuffling then unshuffling so this may be user expierence, not a game issue, but it just seemed things were always grouped together. First few games I played I lost very quickly as every draw was scheme twist or master strike. -- Not enough cards in the villian deck? Main reason I've lost games is decks running out, and far too quickly feeling. I've not compared rulesets to see if that should be normal, but when I have played the tabletop version it never felt like a majorly urgent thing until several rounds have passed. In this version, the decks deplete so fast even before i can do anything it's a concern, then when coupled with three scheme twists in a row, its over before it really began. -- Complete lack of deck rules/custimization Assuming, as I did that the last point is mostly my own issue, there should be an option SOMEWHERE to start a match with an extra deck shuffled. In the tabletop game, the instrustions encourage altering mechanics to tweek difficulty. When I've played with new players, this sometimes has meant throwing in an extra hero or villian into the decks. As far as I can tell, there are no such options. -No AI CO-OP I bought this to scratch an itch for legendary because it isn't exactly easy around me to find other players and do a game, and I'm not always interested in playing with strangers online. Ascension (another deck builder) lets you play with AI players, at least of last time i tried it, there was no way to do so here. You play by yourself or with people online. Something is missing when you are the only one vieing for cards, and playing heroes. --F2P? I bought this game because of my love for Legendary. It has always sortof felt like a free2play game in the unlocks and lack of game custimization options, but suddenly it became f2p (supposedly because of players request?) and in return for my purchase price, I got some free unlocks and a brief respite from the unruly 'energy' requirements of the campaign. So exciting! I don't feel ripped off at all! Positives-- It's legendary...? The games are pretty short-- mostly because the decks run out so fast. I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on expansions for this...? Sorry, all reaches. I really just can't reccommend this game for the foreseeable future.
The lack of actuall expansions for last 2 years, and lack luster quallity of recent updates, and focus on paid random gatcha nature of visual items show how little to no attention dev gave this game. I'll stick to playing Marvel Legendary on TTS, than waste time on game long since abandoned.
