remove those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring card minigames from the concept lmao
Some spoilers ahead /// be warned! I will mark when I get into text ruining territory, everything before then will have a spoiler mark. I am in shock at how much I enjoyed this game? The writing is insanely good, especially paired with its contemporaries, and this far exceeds what I would want out of a base danganronpa game, the first chapter is an insane hook and I can't wait for the rest to come out, worth every penny! I love the voice acting a lot, there are some audio mixing issues I noticed throughout the trial, such as some lines not being loud enough, I had to turn the music down during
some of Shigure Ogasawara's lines in the clinical trial
just so I could hear them. The gameplay is really good and I enjoy the card gimmick, though I believe it can be a bit more refined. The progression of the characters relationships to one another feels natural and works well in both the confines of the story and in the optional content as well, though I say this as someone who has only done one playthrough of this game. I have so much to say about every character but those feelings would be difficult to put into words, play this ♥♥♥♥, build your own feels for the characters, love them, and cry bc the entire game is not out yet and its PEAAAAAAAAAAAK!!!!
More spoilery stuff below!! play the game for yourself first <3
I LOVE the protagonist so much, her voice actress does an amazing job (especially in the last scene of chapter 1) and her interactions with Kaguya are INCREDIBLE, it had me in tears honestly. The art isn't stellar but its simplicity allows the characters and space to breathe, the animation is fluid and pretty :3 wa wa wa.. Music is insanely good I fw it heavy. uhhhhhhhhhhh this game is well worth it even this early in development and I can't wait for it to gain more traction!
its a good danganronpa style game, the story is very interesting and the art and animations are beautiful. I just have a few issues. the card game is important yet lacks any complexity at all- every fight can be won by just max handing then using Erika's skill and wiping an opponent in one turns and more importanly theres just no meat on the bone for this game at all. the only side content is the arcade machine and the claw which are both incredibly simple. the gameplay itself only goes up to the end of chapter 1 and the rest of the chapters will require payment. its definitely worth it but right now its essentially a paid demo with very little content. I cannot emphasise how wonderful the soundtrack and art is though- its frankly beautiful. though some characters designs are...questionable
peak ronpa gameplay
After 9 total hours completing through the first chapter of the game i must say, i was quite impressed! i have played all three main danganronpa games, and seen the anime (on xbox only so sadly not on steam) and this was an extremely faithful, yet unique perception of the killing game genre i have grown to love! the only glaring issues i ever had with the game were very personal, things such as...some of the art being less than consistant at times, to the dialogue and likes and dislikes of some of the characters being extremely outlandish at times and overall becoming minor annoyances around the 5 hour mark. HOWEVER. i think that if you are looking for a new danganronpa experience with new mechanics, silly references to the series, and an honestly very diverse cast. i would HIGHLY recommend getting this game. i am incredibly excited for future chapters, and cannot wait to see what plots the game has to offer.
This game feels super promising so far, and I can't wait to see more of it. Any criticisms you might have heard regarding the games characters can easily be disproven by ACTUALLY playing the game and seeing what it's about. Some of the minigames during the trials could definitely use some adjustments, but I'd recommend this game to any fan of games like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney. I also recommend buying it before the price increases!
Actual emotional rollercoaster..... Never been so invested in a game and i CRIED for the first time while gaming. good job kumitantei :sob:

If I were to give this a numerical rating, it would be a 4/5 or a 9/10. I largely enjoyed this game, but I did have some issues with it. Long-time fans of Danganronpa will enjoy Kumitantei as a fresh take on the series formula. Because Kumitantei takes place in a particular era of Japanese history, it informs the setting and the background of all the characters. It makes for an interesting narrative on the whole, without spoiling anything. As for gameplay, I did enjoy the card-building aspect as well. The various other mini-games are fun for the most part. Now, the reason I wouldn't give this a perfect score is that I did have my own issues. There are some characters I'm not fond of, but I'm not holding it against the game. The character personalities are very diverse, so which ones a person likes depends on the person. Gameplay wise, there was a mini-game I didn't like. Another mini-game entirely lacked a tutorial. But all in all, I say this is a game that is worth a purchase. I am looking forward to future Episodes of this game.
This was a great start, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the game! All I would really advise is incorporating the card battling more, I know the devs are planning on adding them to FTEs but I think adding them to investigations would really make the investigation portions feel like their own thing, and not just a chore to get to the trial.
