PLEASE!! SOMEONE REMAKE THIS GREAT CLASSIC GAME SO IT CAN WORK ON MODERN COMPUTERS!!! PLEASE!!
I played this game a ton when I was younger, however this package on steam doesn't run smoothly at all. Win 11, RTX4090, I9-13900HX, 32GB ram
This game is fantastic, try find it on freeware or the pirate bay or something if steam isn't selling it (gog isn't either) The game is like playing LOTR, not the LOTR movies but reading the LOTR book, or listening to an old 70s audibook or something, it's a minimalist, stately, patient RTS with an interesting gameplay model, wonderful artwork and a nice little mythology wrapped up in a bow. The Kohan are immortal heroes, descended from the creator's two chosen world-builders, they can die but they live on in an amulet that can be used to resurrect them - though long periods of death leave them with temporary amnesia. Natural leaders, they generally become figureheads of the regular kith they live alongside. In the grand campaign here you start out as Darius Javidan, a Kohan with amnesia who has a general motivation to help out his fellow people and generally cottons on to a growing shadow nation that may or may not be connected to a cycle of cataclysms that have repeatedly occured throughout the history of the planet - Kaldoun. Doesn't take long before you're discovering other kohan amulets - always some lovely warm voice acting when they introduce themselves - and the maps feel alive as they are large, hand crafted, littered with creep hovels and the like but also independent settlements that you can perhaps convince to join you. Aside from combat and exploration an interesting economy system relies on you using up limited building slots in each town to, first, produce buildings that generate various resources while also unlocking units. On each map you might find one to a few places that can be built up by engineers and grant big resources bonuses, otherwise your engineers are mostly occupied building forts - always with great evocative names like The Blue Tower or Blackwater Fort (or you can name them yourself) and capable of spawning temporary squads of militia to defend key locations in a very heroic "band of warriors in the wilderness holding a crucial pass" kinda LOTR feeling. Towns can also spawn militia. There are plenty of difficulty settings and it can get hard quickly. It's a big, generous game, with heaps of hours of wholesome fun, and the expansion Ahriman's Gift is a thing, too, though again steam doesn't sell it anymore so you'll have to find it yourself. 9/10 perfect quiet sunday gaming

Good Old Game. Just needs a little config fix, readily available in the steam forums, and it's just like I remember.
A game so obscure it doesn't even have a TV tropes page. It runs poorly on modern hardware and requires a fix that you'll have to find in the forums. Otherwise it'll lag so much as to be unplayable. You need to know this before you consider buying it. That said, if you can get this thing to run properly, it's kind of a hidden gem. It's an RTS game that focuses on squad based combat in order to cut down on micromanagement. The economy is also fairly simple. In addition to gold, you have a number of resources that represent different types of unit upkeep. If you go negative in those resources, then it cuts into your gold income, which can sometimes be worth the price. Overall very simple compared to a lot of other RTS games. It's hard to explain what this game does do right because much of the game is simplified compared to other RTS games. There's heroes, various special units you can add to your squads, unlockable technology you can find in ruins, several marching stances that have different speeds and varying degrees of being ready for combat. Overall the game is very simple but it comes together pretty nicely. The story is nothing to write home about. There's a lot of characters, but to be honest I can only remember a few. The campaign itself is fine, with notable fights. Overall it's a fine game for only 10 dollars. One problem I have with it is 3 of the 4 factions are functionally almost identical, only differing in slight ways. The other faction is the Ceyah, who are the bad guys and thus have zombies and skeletons. Ahriman's Gift fixes this slightly, but it's still kind of a problem. There's also only one campaign, while Ahriman's gift has 3.
An interesting take on RTS, Kohan has you manage companies rather than individual units. Your commanders are immortal demigods, but they forget all of their skills if they are killed, meaning their abilities drop back to baseline and have to be built up all over again. The economy is interesting, and creeps can be defeated to unlock buffs or new unit types. The campaign is solid, as is the skirmish mode.
Win 10 wymaga patcha do prawidłowego działania. Nobara linux nie, gra działa od razu bez problemów. Bardzo polecam, unikalny RTS. Łączy najlepsze elementy z serii Total War z grafiką 2d i rzutem izometrycznym.
Can't believe someone took up the flame on this game and actually updated it to work on modern platforms - awesome.
I love this game, playing it since it came out, made a 5 year break, and now I am back into it. I like to start huge maps with lots of enemies, impose some self restrictions, and battle it through. I play in Steam on Linux, and the game works very good.
