About
Knights Within is being developed by Indecision Labs, a solo developer working on their first public project.

Humanity is fighting for survival against the wraiths that now reign dominant in the world. Thankfully, technology is on our side. Fight your way through hordes of enemies while completing objectives to further mankind's struggle to survive.

Embark on procedurally generated missions to push back the threat of the Wraiths. Progressing through a mission grants randomized modifiers for both you and your enemies. The longer you survive, the crazier the powers get, keeping each run fresh and unique.

Create your own class by equipping gear mods for your various weapons and armor to enhance your preferred playstyle. As one of the prestigious knights protecting humanity, you have access to the most technologically advanced equipment available.

Run missions by yourself, or bring up to 3 friends to fight alongside you against the never ending hordes of enemies in your way.

Play the default mission based mode, completing objectives while struggling to survive. Or try the Gauntlet mode, where your stage progress is saved and the difficulty scales endlessly.

1-4 players (up to 8 supported unofficially)
Procedurally generated maps and objectives
Free-form combat: maintain control of your movement while always having access to your sword and firearm
Loadouts: Equip weapons, add mods to them and choose paths to create your own class
In-run progression: rogue-lite style upgrades for both you and your enemies
Meta-progression: Unlock and upgrade gear between missions
3 game-modes: Multi-Act primary mode, a smaller standard mission mode and an endless difficulty climber

Yeah so this game is a slept on gem. Are menus sometimes unpolished? Sure. But polish is easy. Great gameplay, engaging loops, and a hack and slash game that's found that perfect balance of tension and ease? That's the hard part. Knights Within has definitely cracked that code. I encourage anyone who likes ARPGs (yeah!) to give this a go. It takes that chaos and fun, makes it 3rd person, adds roguelite elements, and boom. Magic. Well, guns and swords. But same same. And if you don't like ARPGs? Give it a go anyway. It's just good clean fun. Also, love the art style and enemy spawning.
Support the dev so the game can grow, this has a lot of potential. Really fun
This game is amazing and a wonderful horde shooter. I've had a blast playing solo. Unfortunately I can't recommend it as the online is dead, with an average player count of under 2 or 3, leaving players to largely play on their own. I'm leaving as recommend in general because people SHOULD buy this game and give it a try. If you have some friends down to try it out, definitely give it a shot.
This game lands for me. A true *horde* shooter AND hack and slash in an environment that not many games fill, which is third person. Everything feels fluid, fresh and responsive. For one guy, it's very very impressive. Not made it very far yet, but even on the third difficulty, the horde is there. Excited to see what happens in the future.
great game, glad the dev is sticking with it.
For $11, 50% off, ok,I'll finaly bite, been on my wish list for ages now, seen a few video on the tube. Overall, glad I did, I see the potential, could be a cult classic by full release. Still havent been doing much in ways of exploration but I'll update this when I do.
The creator of Knights Within seems to have wondered "what if medieval knights had modern firearms?" and decided to made a game to answer just that question. The game consists of missions where one or more players traverse a map looking for objectives; each completed objective gives the player a choice of a power up, like a classic roguelike game. Players can also customise their characters in three ways:

changing the equipped weapons: melee, firearm and a "spell" that must be charged during missions, as well as modifiers for each of them (e.g. a shield mod that stuns nearby enemies after blocking enough hits, or a gun mod that increases magazine size);
picking a class that favours a certain play style, like dodging through enemies or being more effective at stunning;
equipping passive traits from up to three skill trees that enhance some of the player's actions, depending on whether they want to be more effective at shooting, or blocking, or killing bosses, and so on.
There is also cosmetic customisation: it's not very in-depth but it's certainly a welcome sight, especially on multiplayer missions where one may want to look different from their teammates. Missions in general have a lot going on, from random storms to enemy hordes to hidden locations where players can unlock new skill trees. It's also possible to find gadgets that give special abilities while on a mission, like an energy shield that blocks projectiles, and up to three can be equipped at a time. Even better, the developer is constantly at work on game updates, to the point where I'm not sure how long the content of this review will stay relevant. I wish every early access game received updates this often! So far, the only flaw I've found with this game consists of the enemies: the player is constantly chased by wraiths with assorted medieval weapons (both melee and ranged), as well as "elite" wraiths that specialise in certain attacks (brutes will interrupt you and throw you to the ground, enforcers will hit you with a slowing beam and so on) but there are so many of them that they can't help but feel generic and samey after a while. Bosses tend to have the same problem: they have unique names and movesets but they eventually all boil down to

2 or 3 melee swings
linear or circular area-of-effect the player has to dodge
energy bubble that negates the player's bullets
and fighting them is not very exciting. With some luck, we will eventually get new enemies that better stand out! This, however, is my real only issue with the game, and it hasn't prevented me from enjoying Knights Within for over 50 hours. It's definitely a thumbs up from me.
I love the concept and is fun to play. This game definitely needs to get more recognition considering it was all done by a solo developer!
Woefully underrated for an Early Access title. Very active dev. Tons of potential here, while still being a blast in its current state. My only real critique is the partial controller support. It would feel a lot better in the menus and the keep with full controller support, but I'm sure that's on the list.
its fun keep it up you have good game
