Inkulinati is a turn-based strategy game straight from medieval manuscripts, where a rabbit’s bum can be deadlier than a dog's sword. Become a master of the Living Ink, build your own bestiary, defeat medieval superstars and collect perks to unleash hidden powers.
Played on a Steamdeck @MatureContent
This was a fun little turn-based combat game, where you fight your way through an ink filled medieval universe. In this game you get to fight various enemies with increasing difficulty while also interacting with different characters from the realm inbetween. The combat consists of two armies, yours and your opponents, taking turns to move, attack or draw. Your army centerpiece is the character you made at the beginning of the game and this character is the only one on the board with the power to draw in new units on the map. It is also the character that wins or loses the game if it dies. You have to either erase your opponents army or erase their centerpiece. If they kill yours, you lose. To draw in new units will cost you a turn and ink, which is gained by standing in ink puddles or by ending your turn. This game can be pretty tough when you get further into it, but it is also fun and the silly artstyle really helps lighten the mood when at the brink of rage. ————————————————————————————— Help me out by following my Curator, I’d really appreciate it!!
I'd say this game is about 𝐈𝐈𝐈 things: 𝐈. Style of art. 𝐈𝐈. Tactics. 𝐈𝐈𝐈. Ofcourse fun. ;) Not sure about full price buy, cause yet it`s a bit indie, but if you like this kind of strategy games - definetely should give a try on a sale. P.S: to the DEVs: i would really love to see my native language (Ukrainian) in game.
Obviously, half of the appeal is in the style; who wouldn't be charmed by the prospect of fighting Death with an army of little guys, all drawn in the style of medieval marginalia? Beyond that, though, it is a competent wargame. The tutorial is pretty good, teaching you how to do all the stuff you need to know to win a fight, and a little beyond that. There are also some side puzzles that are actually kinda difficult, if you want the advanced training. You get a broad roster to play with, starting with foxes, dogs and rabbits, and with progress you can unlock monkeys, two kinds of little guys, fish, devils, and more. You can also just mix and match over the course of a campaign, picking up new guys after some battles. Fight Death with two devils, a snail that can just eat folks, a guy who explodes, and a monkey chucking stuff around. You've got your status effects and terrain, which can also be created or destroyed by the player or their troops. Devils can create fire sparks, skeletons can infect people with the plague, rabbits and donkeys can moon people to prevent them from moving and fighting next turn. You've got some interesting synergies with the talents and roster. The one that carried me through my last playthrough was the combination of skeletons infecting people and getting a drop of ink for every infected fighter on the field, meaning I was always swimming in the ink I needed to draw characters. You've got a limited retries system; if you can't beat a fight on your first try, you can sacrifice a quill to try it again. You only get a few quills, though, so git gud. My big complaint is that it can feel kinda samey, the way roguelikes often do. The choices are just "which number do you want to go up", the fights are always "run for the other guy's tiny". I'm willing to forgive that, though, because the fights, as much as they resemble each other, are fun. I am still extremely charmed by the prospect of fighting Death with an army of little guys.

love the concept, but the game cheats. moves will not perform as listed if it attacks their boss and their attacks do double damage against yours despite no buffs of any kind, extra moves taken, & discounts on "ink" costs to add extra enemy to the board.
Enfim, recomendo.
The game does not want to launch on my pc or on my steamdeck. No idea why and I never got a response to an email I sent to the developers.
Super fun turn-based strategy game with a gorgeous illuminated manuscript aesthetic, tons of units with unique mechanics for mix-and-match team building, and a funny campaign with challenging bosses to beat. My favorite unit archetypes are the bloated/exploders, the cooers, the water beasts, and the demons. I like that there are plenty of skills for you to reshape the landscape to your favor. There is a roguelite campaign mode and a duel mode where you get straight to fighting. One thing to keep in mind is that there aren't many different choices on the map during campaign progression. There are also no differences between Acts apart from the strength of your team and the boss you need to defeat, so the replay value is less than other roguelites.
