About
In A Fox Tale, you will play as Eva as she embarks on her quest to discover if she is the last of her kind.
For the control mechanics, we dedicated a lot of time and effort to creating a physics system that makes traversing the changing environments feel smooth and responsive. You will run, jump, climb, dash and swing your way through the five biomes in the game, each of which introduces its own mechanics to the experience.
Each biome in A Fox Tale is split into small levels, allowing instant retries and little lost progress when coming up short on a jump or falling off a ledge into a pit of spikes.
FEATURES
Fast, responsive movement
Hundreds of handcrafted levels
Optional collectables and challenges
Instant re-spawning
Constantly evolving mechanics
For the level design, each level was initially hand drawn to find the best combinations of mechanics. From there, we build an outline in the game engine, playtest, improve it, and once we are happy, decorate the level and add it to the game. Here's an example of how a level started in the notebook, and how it looked when completed.

"A Fox Tale" is a very lovely precision platformer game that feels fun and fresh all throughout :з Fluid movement, ton of fun mechanics, everything feels fair, even with collectables - repeating screen few times doesn't feel frustrating because controls are very intuitive - which is extremely important in platformers. Main focus of the game is platforming itslef that sprinkled with a tiny storytelling inbetween; cute fox, cute animals, lovely art :з Other thing that makes this game great is it's sound design. Gorgeous music and comfy sounds that don't overwhelm or annoy. Overall: It's fun to play, it's fun to look at, it's fun to hear it :з If you into platformers (aka Celeste, Wings of Vi, IWBTG) you definitely will not be disappointed with this one, a very much worthy addition to a gamer's collection :з Well done!
FoxMania: The Quest To Review All Fox Games On Steam!
Conditions for inclusion:

-The player character must be consistently a fox; the fox must not be merely a skin or a character option
-Must have 100% working Steam achievements
-Must not be a visual novel
Game #47: A Fox Tale It’s a short and sweet Celeste-like! It looks nice, it controls well, and I quite enjoyed it. Like Celeste, this is a precision platformer with a heavy emphasis on air dashes and bounce pads. I’ll admit that I never played Celeste (unless you count the original prototype version), as I always feared I’d get too obsessed with the game, but I’ve seen enough about it to know why it’s renowned. The main appeal is in its solid controls, where making a mistake always feels like your fault. The level design itself is kind of a puzzle -- you can die dozens of times on each screen until you figure out what the level is trying to teach you. This game does well in capturing the same core appeal, while bringing its own set of ideas to the table. There are 5 areas, each with (what felt like) 20-30 rooms, so over a hundred rooms in total. Things I liked:

-Everything about the presentation. Visuals, sounds, the overall vibe… no complaints here.
-Controls were just fine. The buttons basically always did what I wanted, and mistakes always felt like my fault. You can rebind the controls (though you only get one button per function).
-The game seems to go more for chill vibes, instead of the mechanical complexity and difficulty of Celeste, and honestly I loved it. The levels never felt overly demanding, but also never felt trivial.
-The level design overall very clear in conveying its challenges and objectives, and teaching you how everything works. The few surprises it pulled felt earned.
-I love that a few speedrunning tricks were obviously left in the game on purpose. That is always nice to see!
Things I didn’t like:

-I did not like the grapple hook mechanic. It felt too quick and janky for the established pace of the game, and the grapple hooks really need a distance indicator circle that tells you how close you need to be to activate them. This is easily my biggest criticism with the game.
-While it wasn’t too common, the graphical style occasionally seemed to interfere with the gameplay clarity. Sometimes the level was too dark, and sometimes background objects were made to look like platforms.
-You can run back to previous rooms, which seems pointless. It caused me to accidentally reset my progress in a room a few times.
-I don't like how moving objects don't restart their cycle when you die. You can't lock a specific timing in muscle memory. Instead, you have to learn to react to any part of an object's cycle. That's more of a personal preference than a hard criticism, though.
-I feel that a better “swimming” sprite is needed for the purple water sections. The current one doesn’t feel like a good indicator of the hitbox for precision swimming.
-Probably one of the highest praises of a criticism you can give a game: I wish it were longer! I beat the whole thing with 100% items in just two and a half hours. I’d imagine the deathless achievements will take significantly longer, though.
-The achievement for collecting all the stars might be broken, but more experimenting is needed.
That was a nice little surprise, very fun while it lasted! One of the reasons I keep doing this list is that it gives me an excuse to try a really interesting variety of games, and I’m happy I finally got to play a Celeste-like. 7 / 10. Now I can hope for some DLC! B-sides when?
The movement feels great, the levels are fun to run through, and there’s a nice build up mechanics.
Im not really into platform games generally, but this is different. It feels very chilled out, but at the same time challenging and I actually want to help the little fox dude out. My controller is bust right now, so I was looking for a game to play without and although the dev says to use one you can get by without. great game
The level design is fantastic plays very smoothly art is brilliant game sound effects are lovely the soundtrack is exceptionally relaxing very much enjoyed playing
Been playing A Fox Tale and honestly hooked. It's got that retro platformer vibe but with loads of cool extras like relics and unlockable skills. Gets pretty challenging in a good way, and the characters and world is awesome. Soundtrack is really cool too! Pretty epic so far!!
Jeu super chill et fluide, l'apprentissage des nouvelles mécaniques se fait progressivement et est satisfaisant. Il y a une traduction FR qui est assez qualitative
A great game! Really addictive but it's still a challenge. I will keep coming back to it. The graphics and music are really cool too!
Solid level design, visuals are well done, overall great puzzle platformer. 10/10
