I've been playing Kingdom Rush since it was a flash game on Armor Games. This is the first one I would not recommend. Terrible terrible map design, insane difficulty levels that are horrifically unbalanced. Towers are effectively useless until level 3 and even then they're garbage. Upgrades cost a fortune and upgrades are totally useless. The smallest mobs in the game have tank health. It's like they did no balancing during play testing and basically said it's fine. The first KR in particular was challenging but fair, this just feels like lazy game design. Breeding Chambers on iron is literal nightmare fuel. They give you the two worst towers in the game, stretch the map to three defense points, spam you with spiders that have more health than KR 1 mini bosses, block EVERY SINGLE NODE with a web and give you 900 gold. It takes 500 just to make 1 tower do enough damage to kill one enemy, let alone 5 at the same time. Edit:// Okay, I'm officially done with this and may not purchase another KR game ever again. Somehow the levels got even harder. I'm pretty good at these games. I've beaten every previous titles on the hardest level and in fact made it harder for myself by restricting myself to only using one type of tower per level as an extra challenge. This game is literally impossible on impossible mode. I decided to test it. I ran a trainer to cheat on the game giving myself infinite money, ran an iron mode challenge and had every slot from the beginning fully upgraded as a test. The enemies STILL ALMOST BROKE THROUGH. There is SERIOUS balancing issues with this game. I personally thin after reading the phone version reviews that they designed this for mobile monetization pay to win. You have super bombs and such on the phone version that you have to pay for with gems and real currency. They make the levels impossible without them to get money, when they ported the game they obviously didn't tune this for PC where you don't get those types of weapons and effectively made certain levels impossible to near impossible to beat. This particular level starts you with 900 gold, Towers are ineffective until level 4, mobs buff each other, AOE your troops and heros, etc mobs are fast, basic mobs have 360 HP, towers do 30-50 damage, that means they have to hit them a minimum of 7 times to kill them. 7 TIMES!. First wave comes, literally 500 mobs spawn, I'm not even joking ON THE FIRST WAVE with 900 gold to start! WTF!? Terrible game design and balance. This series has really gone down hill. Everything is designed around milking money now and the fun is gone.
Level design is atrocious: no chokepoints and no difficulty = no satisfaction. Most heroes are near-copies of one another, and therefore uninteresting. Some towers are fun, but footmen, for example, are almost unplayable. Overall, it amazes me that this game — the sequel to a very good series with clear successes — still fails to replicate, let alone improve, the formula. A true disappointment
Kingdom Rush 5 Alliance is a masterful addition to the game. The game shakes up its traditional formula with excellent dual-hero mechanics and diverse tower loadouts. Great for Tower defense purists, micro-management fans, and long-time series completionists. The visual design strikes a beautiful balance between high-quality, professional assets and the franchise's signature cartoon charm. Maps are highly dynamic, featuring vibrant biomes like deep forests, arid deserts, and dangerous caverns. Highly recommended this game.
I was really sceptical going into this because of all the reviews that said this game is far worse than the first Kingdom Rush when it comes to difficulty, but I must say they were wrong. I admit that I changed the difficulty to impossible in the game files, and I feel like we should be able to select that from the start, but nonetheless the game was a blast. Managing two heroes takes some skill, but feels rewarding when done right. There is a lot of towers that are cool as hell and fun to use, and choosing the right one can be tricky. Only complaint I have is that there really is no good alternative when it comes to the barracks. I only used paladins for the whole campaign, which was kinda disappointing. Anyway. The game is really good and worth the money on sale. (But that's just me, I'm kinda poor) I would give it a solid 8/10. Far more better than vengeance, which was ass
As someone who has been playing Kingdom Rush since the release of the very first game, I can honestly say that Kingdom Rush Alliance is one of Ironhide Game Studio's finest achievements. After all these years, they continue to prove that the Kingdom Rush franchise is not only alive and well, but constantly evolving and improving. What impresses me most is how Alliance successfully builds upon everything that came before it. The gameplay remains as addictive and strategic as ever, but the addition of the dual-hero system creates countless opportunities for experimentation and tactical creativity. Every stage feels handcrafted, every enemy presents a unique challenge, and every victory feels earned. The story is where Alliance truly shines. Following the events of Kingdom Rush Vengeance, the world faces a threat so immense that even Vez'nan—the once feared Dark Wizard and one of the most powerful beings in the Kingdom Rush universe—cannot confront it alone. Former enemies must put aside old rivalries and form an alliance to face a danger that threatens the entire realm. That danger is the Overseer. What makes the Overseer such a fascinating villain is that it feels bigger than any enemy we've encountered before. Rather than being another conqueror seeking power, the Overseer represents an ancient and mysterious force whose influence appears to reach far deeper into the lore of Kingdom Rush than many players initially realize. From developer hints and lore scattered throughout the games, it seems this is not even the first time the Overseer has made its presence known within the Kingdom Rush universe. That revelation alone adds a level of mystery and worldbuilding that longtime fans can truly appreciate. Ironhide has done an incredible job expanding the lore while still keeping the classic charm, humor, secrets, and references that made the series beloved in the first place. For veteran players, Alliance feels like the culmination of years of storytelling and worldbuilding. The post-launch support has been equally impressive. The game already includes three fantastic DLC campaigns: • Colossal Dwarfare Campaign • Wukong's Journey • Dragon Wars Campaign Each campaign expands the world with new stories, heroes, enemies, and lore. Rather than feeling like optional extras, these DLCs feel like meaningful chapters in the continuing saga of Kingdom Rush. And perhaps the adventure isn't over yet. While exploring the world map, I noticed what appears to be another region hidden beneath the clouds in the northwest. Whether it is a future DLC or simply a mystery waiting to be revealed, it gives me hope that Ironhide still has more stories left to tell. As a fan who has defended Linirea since the beginning, it has been amazing to watch this franchise grow from a fantastic tower defense game into a rich fantasy universe filled with memorable heroes, villains, kingdoms, and legends. Kingdom Rush Alliance feels like a love letter to longtime fans while remaining accessible to newcomers. Few developers support their games with the same level of passion and care as Ironhide Game Studio. Nearly fifteen years after the original Kingdom Rush, they continue to raise the bar for the tower defense genre. 10/10 — A worthy successor to the Kingdom Rush legacy and one of the best entries in the entire franchise.
this game really really surprised me. I did like some of the ideas introduced in Vengeance but felt the game was mostly far too easy and wasn't very impressed by the campaign just retreading the first game backwards. So yeah, I went into this one with tempered expectations, and wow, this has become one of my favorite Kingdom Rush games. The environments are fresh, the enemies are varied, and while the campaign is far too easy, (I beat the final boss first try on veteran) the end game campaigns are pretty challenging (on impossible) and have some really cool themes. (Im not crazy about the dwarf dlc in any capacity but I really like the other two) The two heroes dont really amount to much more than a gimmick but there can definitely be some fun combos and strategy to be found if you try hard enough.
I didn't like that I have to pay to continue playing, I understand DLC for new heroes or for content, but I spend money on this, and I can play only 20 scenarios......
