Worth buying at a discount IF you liked the previous King Arthur game. This game is basically a 18 mission DLC of the first game with a Roman theme. They also streamlined many of the game mechanics. First, there is no more hero management, the game only has 6 heroes and you no longer need to train or heal heroes. They also removed the injury system, some may like this approach but I did miss the larger roster of heroes to choose from, but it's not such a negative that I wouldn't recommend the game. The game also reuses levels and map layouts from the first game in sections and reuses enemy types as well. Overall, if you enjoyed the previous game then you will enjoy this, just wait and buy it on sale.
I bought and played this game only because King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is my favourite TRPG games of all time. I expect this game to be the sequel and extension to the original title. However, story is much shorter and characters building feels much trimmed down to a simpler version in this game. Game content is just not as much as the original. Most importantly, there are even bugs in some areas and the Devs didn’t fix them for a long time. Seems this game has been already abandoned by the Devs. Recommended? No, not worth for this one, just simply buy the original title.
These King Arthur games are outstanding. What I want most of all is more Voice Acting with the post content. For some reason, I lose interest after because there's no more talking.
It's good, just think about it as a DLC and play it after finishing the King Arthur: Knight's Tale :))
I gave this game a harsh review just due to how awful the intro mission is, totally unbalanced and bs, but I powered through it anyway and it's starting to get better. Only buy on sale, no where near as good as the original game, but seems decent enough, just a TERRIBLE intro to the game.
A really good game. The tactical battles are varied.
King Arthur: Legion IX delivers an engaging standalone tactical RPG that expands the dark fantasy universe of King Arthur: Knight's Tale through the introduction of an entirely new faction and storyline. Developed and published by NeocoreGames, the game follows Gaius Julius Mento, a tribune of the legendary Ninth Legion who is resurrected in the mystical realm of Avalon. Rather than retelling familiar Arthurian legends, the campaign explores the ambitions of a Roman commander determined to establish a new empire within a land ruled by magic, mythical creatures, and ancient curses. This fresh perspective gives the expansion its own identity while remaining faithful to the grim atmosphere and mature storytelling that define the series. The narrative is built around the Roman Legion's struggle to survive and conquer Avalon, creating a fascinating blend of Roman history and Arthurian mythology. As Gaius Julius Mento attempts to build Nova Roma, players encounter rival armies, monstrous beasts, corrupted knights, and supernatural threats that constantly challenge their progress. The story successfully balances military conquest with personal ambition, allowing players to experience a campaign driven by determination, loyalty, and the desire to restore the glory of a fallen civilization. While the plot is more focused than that of the original game, it remains consistently engaging thanks to strong world-building and memorable encounters. Combat continues to be the centerpiece of the experience, offering highly strategic turn-based battles where every action matters. Victory depends on careful positioning, efficient use of action points, skill combinations, and exploiting enemy weaknesses rather than relying on overwhelming force. Each battlefield encourages tactical thinking by presenting varied enemy types, environmental hazards, and mission objectives that require adaptability. The Roman-themed heroes introduce fresh combat styles and abilities, ensuring that battles feel distinct from those found in the base game while preserving the satisfying tactical depth that fans expect. Character progression is another highlight, with each recruit possessing unique skills, specialization options, and equipment choices. Players gradually strengthen their legion by unlocking powerful abilities, discovering better gear, and customizing heroes to suit different combat strategies. Building an effective team involves balancing offensive damage, defensive capabilities, crowd control, healing, and mobility, rewarding thoughtful planning throughout the campaign. The progression system remains meaningful because every upgrade noticeably improves a character's effectiveness, encouraging experimentation with different party compositions. Outside of combat, the game introduces settlement management through the construction and expansion of Nova Roma. Developing the city provides practical benefits such as improved resources, stronger infrastructure, and additional support for future expeditions. Although these management mechanics are not overly complex, they provide a satisfying sense of long-term progression that complements the tactical gameplay. Watching the Roman settlement gradually grow reinforces the campaign's central theme of rebuilding an empire within an unfamiliar and hostile world. The presentation effectively captures the dark fantasy tone of Avalon. Environments are richly detailed, blending Roman architecture with medieval ruins, haunted forests, cursed battlefields, and mystical landscapes that constantly remind players of the world's supernatural nature. Character models are well designed, spell animations are visually impressive, and combat effects remain clear even during large-scale encounters. Combined with atmospheric lighting and strong environmental design, every location contributes to the game's oppressive yet captivating atmosphere. The sound design further enhances immersion through a dramatic orchestral soundtrack that shifts naturally between moments of exploration and intense combat. Weapon impacts, magical abilities, and creature sounds all deliver satisfying audio feedback, while the voice performances help establish the personalities and motivations of the central characters. Together, the music and sound effects strengthen the emotional weight of the story and make each battle feel appropriately epic. Although Legion IX is marketed as a standalone adventure, its campaign is naturally smaller than the original King Arthur: Knight's Tale. Players looking for an expansive epic with dozens of hours of content may find its shorter length somewhat limiting. However, the focused scope allows the game to maintain a consistently high level of quality without relying on unnecessary filler. Every mission introduces meaningful objectives, challenging encounters, or narrative developments that keep the experience engaging from beginning to end. King Arthur: Legion IX succeeds because it builds upon an already strong tactical foundation while introducing enough original ideas to justify its existence as more than a simple expansion. Its compelling Roman-inspired storyline, rewarding tactical combat, satisfying progression systems, and atmospheric presentation combine to create an experience that will appeal to strategy enthusiasts and fans of dark fantasy alike. Even though its campaign is more concise than the main game, the quality of its gameplay and storytelling makes it a worthwhile addition to the King Arthur universe. Rating: 7/10
