Seems I am the first one to review this. So the gameplay is like this: You move on a map on small circles. Every few fields there are special fileds with events or fights. A fight is turn based and you use physical or magic attacks. You can gain levels and this inceases your stats. Also your stats are increased by -what I call- Karma-runes. All together it is more like a board game. The graphics are beautiful and high resolution. The story is told similar to a visual novel. I enjoy it so far.
Combat is painfully slow and devoid of any tactics. Sometimes you can talk your opponent(s) into not fighting, but most of the time you have to fight. You click on attack, a long animation (well, actually just a text saying how much damage you did) shows. Then your opponents attack, each showing a long animation again (well, actually it is a single image growing in size plus the damage text). Sure, you can turn combat off, but you'd lose a large part of the game. On the map you move along specific paths (shown as a line of circles). You have to click on every single circle to move, say, 20 paces to the right to reach the exit. Once again, painfully slow. You should click on "Explore" on every tile, too, so you don't miss anything. So, click on circle, click on "Explore" (all the way up near the top of the screen). Then circle, then "Explore". Again and again. The one good thing about the game are the graphics. High-res, high-quality, very well drawn character images and backgrounds. The story is so-so. Everyone I talked to tended to blabber on and on. There seems to be a nicely built world behind the game, but getting to it is, once again, painfully slow. After what felt like ages I realized that actually, I had spent less than two hours with this game. So, I asked for a refund.
Don't be fooled by the low playtime, I bought this game originally on Nutaku but their updates are slow, so the very kind developer, JBoney, passed me this Steam key absolutely free so I could keep up. For me, this game was totally worth it. It's not perfect by any means, but it's very light to play (the story can get deep and interesting, and has a lot of really cool basis in Indian mythology, but I didn't play it for the story) and I am a BIG fan of the art, both how much there is and how good it is. The H-Patch (maybe the reason I played this game who knows) is free and provides a LOT, which is an awesome plus, and the developer is very accessible and receptive on his Discord server. Playing the game itself takes a bit of getting used to at first, as there's very little tutorial to get you understanding the mechanics of exploring, combat and equipment, but it's not too hard to learn or adapt to. It's a very freeform game and feels kind of empty despite the various characters you can explore and interact with. I've only been playing on easy, but apparently, despite the simple battle mechanics, it's actually pretty hard. I haven't finished my first run through of the game but so far, it's definitely been what I wanted, and it's totally worth the $15. As a bonus, apparently there's even MORE content coming out before the end of the year, which I'm really looking forward to. That's not to say this is a perfect game. It's very rough around the edges, and, as I mentioned before, feels empty. Free-form is nice but not necessarily in a VN type set up, and a lot of times I'm not sure where to go or what to do. The storyline is more than a little hidden under the...well, you know...so it's easy to miss when you're just hunting for scenes, if you've got the H-patch (which you really do have to get, I say). The UI is kinda annoying to get used to, and there are a few bugs at times, though nothing game breaking. I wouldn't say this game is fap-bait but it's very good at being that, so much so that it's hard to notice much else, at least for me. Between the BEAUTIFULLY drawn art (really, the H-scenes really carry this game far) and the simplistic atmosphere, it's hard to really appreciate how deep and complex some of the routes and story are. I love the references to Indian mythology...but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the naked sprites more. Thankfully, there is an excellently written guide on the game provided by the developer himself, found here: http://tophat.studio/karmasutra-guide/ It's very straightforward and helped me complete what I wanted, though, again, at the cost of me truly being able to appreciate the love and care that went into weaving this world. Well, trade-offs, right? Overall, I have to say this Western studio's foray into making visual novels appeal to a non-Japanese audience was a success. While this game is not addictingly good or memorable, it's fun enough to pass the time and enjoy, and, given the responsiveness of the developers, I'm really looking forward to where they'll take this and future projects. TL;DR: Great art and simple (though a little hard to learn) mechanics make this game fun and definitely worth the price. Developer receptivity and promises of future patches along with the current H-scenes in-game help make this a gem in the rough. While there's a lot that can be improved, I love it where it is and have enjoyed every minute of it.
A wondeful VN with a mix of a D&D style board game. Combat mechanics are not complex and lack depth but the story is interesting and provides a variety of choice. The morality system is very black and white. I have only completed the game with the "good" ending which resulted in me not even meeting or being able to complete stories for certain characters. This game is made to be played multiple times to see all there is to offer. If you like VNs then this could be a good one to check out. It has interested me enough to play it a second time making typically "evil" decisions this time. Overall a 7.5/10, I would suggest a try if you like VNs and are in the market for something with a very original story.
https://tophat.studio/karmasutra-guide/#1491105722667-3-39fb0-6eca
Actually not that bad. Got this in CD form from a convention I went to on a whim and overall pleased with the purchase. Game is a bit slow but plays well on lower end touch screen devices (not lag just slower battle "animations"). to sum it up in less words Pros: art, lore, karma system, multiple playstyles. Cons: slow "animations", little to no direction early on, moving around the map. Overall im about 2 hours in on normal difficulty doing a sinner run and finding it enjoyable. Gonna replay it with balance as they keep hinting its key to maintaining a relationship with any of the characters you meet along your journey. Also only requires a mouse to play ;) Update 1.4 (literly on same day) Didn't do any research to find out that this update was coming out and adds way more content and makes many of the faults of this game dissapear like the pacing of the game.
I was gifted this, but I am not sure if I need to check I received this for free? It was not gifted to me by the developer or anyone associated with them. I believe it was on my wish list or I saw they had bought it and wanted it. Or I saw they had it and I actually did purchase it myself. I don't recall fully, so I will just checkmark it. The story is amazing to me. If you know anything about Buddhist culture, it is scary accurate, although some terms are mispelled. Simply the story alone is amazing to me and the artwork is fantastic. The combat is very neat, although slow. I found the game very difficult on normal difficulty and ended up turning it down a notch, probably from my own silliness of choosing to balance every stat. Towards the end of the game, I found myself wanting more. I ran into a bug, that bothered me, when my inventory was full and I was getting weapons for a woman, which sort of cut off completing that whole line. I should have reported it, however I thought it was a dead game. I wish I knew of the kickstarter for it, or whatever it was, and I would have donated a lot, because I feel it could have been far better, especially looking at the one goal that I could choose my gender, that it did not meet. I did install the adult patch and did not find it distracting at all or that it took over the game. They truly were optional. In fact, even acquiring the first adult scene for me, took me a couple hours. I just was told there was a v1.4 patch when I logged into Steam, and am excited about it, and realized I never reviewed it! So, I am reviewing it now, and will be checking out the patch! I play a lot of visual novels, I am not into all the jargon that goes with it. I like silly stories and sometimes the adult things. This one was not a silly story, it was a very good one, and the adult parts are actually integral to the story, especially when you put it in the context of many differing views of Buddhism and the stories that surround it and shaped it. If I had purchased this myself, I would have been happy with the cost. If I had known of the kickstarter, I probably would have donated. Definitely a game I wish was fully funded and makes a far more impact to me, than some of the trash games, in my opinion, that get kickstarted for lots of money and ends up basically a pile of crap.
Kamasutra is over all not a bad adault game. Sadly I with my up to date Windows 10 PC I encountered massive pathing bugs on maps that have circle courses. Besside this pathing issue I had a game crashing bug that prevent me from using an specific item and I also did get a Steam achievement that I should get. Together with the 2 shallow endings I managed to get in my first playtrough I can't suggest this game. The issue with the pathing is actual 3 issues: 1) when there 2 or more different ways to your selected destination most of the times it takes the longer route even if you didn't discovered it so far 2) during Autopathing it ignore (nearly) all combat fields it moves past and also don't unlock the fields as already visited 3) the bigest issue is that sometimes the autopathing end at a different field then the one selected and did go into a combat or other event. After you finished with the combat / event you only can wonder how you ended at this field because it is on no possible route from your start to the selected end point.
