I never thought the best types of Jurassic Park games-currently- would be in the park builder genre. A type of game I had never played before, it was purely the Jurassic Park brand that caught my eye. I came back to finish off the original in the trilogy while I waited for the support to return and Rebirth DLC for the third entry. It is a lot more bare bones than both future titles, but it is still an enjoyable game and worth playing if you like the others and want more of the same. Graphically it still looks really good, but performance is where it shows its age. When you have a fully built park with dozens of dinosaurs it begins to stutter, which is mildly off putting. Once you understand how to build a park and start carefully crafting all the small details it gets you invested. Once you see that there is a clear layout you should follow to get the optimal park, and there are certain dinosaurs that are better than others the novelty does begin to wane. The highlights for the original are the Return to Jurassic Park DLC, and the Dr Wu DLC, these add some interesting new dinosaurs, my personal favorite being the Spinoraptor. I do have one large caveat to picking up this game, if you like getting 100% and all achievements, I would recommend avoiding this game. It has some of the worst time draining achievements I have ever come across. They add nothing to the game, and actually serve to detract from the enjoyment by highlighting the short comings of the game. Thankfully, this is something they fixed in later entries.
