Enjoyment: 10/10
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is pretty much Mario Kart but Sonic, and I love this game, it's really really fun. The whole presentation and experience is on point and the music is great. I swapped the BGM over to Hatsune Miku's album in the jukebox and they really hit the right notes for each lap. The tracks and environments are surreal and just really nice to look at. They mess with perspective and gravity a lot so some courses feel like a fever dream and in a good way. It's really hard to pick a favorite but some of the tracks I really enjoyed are Sky Road, Aqua Forest, Steampunk City, Cyber Space, Chao Park, etc. Because I love the tracks so much, the Crossworlds mechanic that drops you into a random world for the second lap actually works out pretty well for me. The transition into the new track along with the bgm change is sick, and feels great to play with friends and family in a party setting. Outside of grand prix, there's other multiplayer modes to mess around with in Race Park. There's a good variety of collab characters and machines though I only ever play as Miku lol. I’m really looking forward to the Evangelion DLC coming out next year. There's also a gadget system for you to collect and try out different builds, which adds a light progression layer for you to work towards too. My only problem is that it doesn't seem to be playable offline. I was traveling recently and wanted to play the game with friends on the Steam Deck the way I'd play Mario Kart on the Switch, but it wouldn't make it past the title screen in offline mode. On the technical side, the game runs perfect at 60 FPS on the Steam Deck with high graphic settings and FXAA anti-aliasing. Steering assist is on by default but I recommend turning it off. You might fall off the track more but the game is just more fun that way, and you also need it turned off to grab some of the off-track red rings. Overall, highly recommended. It's alright, but I want somewhere to vent all of my grievances with the game. I have almost 50 hours with of gametime and I haven't played since November 2025. When it release I used to play it constantly, and now it's hard to really find the motivation to play at all. So, what are the reasons I stopped playing? I list them. Online is forced competitive rank. There is no non-competitive online play. And once you hit Legends you're forced to play against sweats, and it's really, really hard to increase your ranking in Legends unless you're basically god tier at every race track. And the only reason I care at all about increasing your rank is because there are some cosmetics that are locked behind the Legend ranks you can't get unless you increase your rank all the way to Legend 1. I'm a vain person. And I got tired of trying and failing to increase my rank. Second, I hate the Festivals. They're limited time events in which you have to increase some ranking in order to gain cosmetic items and junk. It changes the gameplay to have you play some weird and different way, but I don't really find it fun. I only played to get tickets and to keep getting items, and once I missed on Festival I found it hard to have a reason to return to play others. Item balancing and Gadets. They're trash. The items are pure trash. They all basically lock on or teleport. No aiming involved, and they happen too frequently. I hate King Boo. I hate the weights. I hate the stupid green shells. I hate it all. Gadgets were supposed to add variety to gameplay, but of course there's a meta to the online space, so really you're forced to play a particular way because Gadgets aren't all equal. Hate gadgets. They were a mistake. DLC characters don't have voices. I paid for the season pass. None of the characters added post launch have any kind of life to them. Sure, you can change that with mods, but if you're gonna mod your game to make it better then I might as well not pay for DLC characters at all and just add whoever I like through mods WITH VOICES. Transformed was just better. It just was. It felt faster. The race tracks were better and felt like there were stuff constantly happening. Characters had voices. The gameplay was just better. The only thing that Transformed did worse than Crossworlds is that it had less characters to pick from, and less customization. But, ya know, since the characters that were in the game had more personality and voice lines it just kinda feels better to play as them. Anyway, I'm gonna say a few kind things about Crossworlds now. The online is probably still active I think. Also it has more customization for your racing vehicle. It has more characters you can choose to play as. In summary, I hate being forced to play as a sweat. I just want look cool and have fun playing the game however I want to play, and Crossworlds doesn't really allow for that. It just doesn't really do anything better than Transformed.
游戏玩法类似马里奥赛车,我觉得挺好玩的,就是目前不太火,推荐购买豪华版,有很多明星级联动角色和地图,联机推荐欧服,日服对新手来说压力太大
Bought this game specifically for a couch co-op session with friends, and it turned into a frustrating waste of time. The controller support is completely broken. Controller 1 can control the game, but you have to use it to move a mouse cursor through the menus. Controller 2 is detected but cannot press anything. Controllers 3 and 4 somehow end up controlling the same player. Before anyone blames the hardware: all of these controllers work perfectly in other games. We regularly play local multiplayer titles on the same PC without any issues. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the only game causing these problems. What makes this even more annoying is that a quick search reveals many posts from players reporting the exact same controller issues around nine months ago. Clearly this is not an isolated problem, yet it still appears to be unresolved. We expected to spend the evening racing together. Instead, we spent it troubleshooting controller issues, restarting the game, reconnecting devices, and searching online for fixes. For a game that advertises local multiplayer, this is simply unacceptable. Refund requested. I refuse to pay for a game whose most basic couch co-op functionality does not work. Until the controller support is properly fixed, I cannot recommend this game. Avoid if you’re planning to play local multiplayer on PC.
If you have friends, this is literally the best game you can play! With 50% off, the price is completely justified now.
I was REALLY looking forward to getting this game and playing it after being a fan of the Sonic Racing Franchise (aside from Team Sonic Racing). Unfortunately this game did not meet expectations as pretty as it may be. Pros: -The visuals are fantastic as it is a very beautiful game. -The music is always great and I can never complain about it. Cons: -The gameplay is incredibly weird and lackluster compared to something All Stars Racing: Transformed. The cars and maneuvering overall feel incredible clunky and not good to control even while playing with a controller. -The DLC is disappointing the way it was handled with the fact that the DLC characters do NOT appear in offline matches and do NOT have any voice lines at all. Even games like Sonic Racing Transformed or The Karters 2 have voice lines for every character which gives the game a ton of personality. -Speaking of voice lines, my game has a bug in which no one, not even the base roster have voice lines (to which they actually do but it is incredibly muffled or sounds like they are far far away from the mic to the point where they cannot be heard) to which I looked it up and found out I had to do all this settings and such to get my game working with this specific bug. If I pay for a product I'd at least expect something like voice lines to be working right off the bat. Overall I had high expectations and was left incredibly disappointed. Maybe I will get this game again at a steeper discount but as of now I will NOT pay full price for this game.
I will probably refer to Mario Kart a lot in this review since this game mostly feels like a Sonic version with a lot of its own stuff. This game also has lot of characters including Sega crossovers and paid dlc for more obscure crossovers like Spongebob which is always fun for party games. There are three terrains you will be driving on; Road, Sky & Water and will drift different based on which one for example the road is a regular drift you would think of but in the sky you dash and water you jump. There are items in this game of course and most are similar to Mario kart like red and green gloves, as well as boost panels on the road and dash rings in the sky. There are different speed levels as well like the “cc” in the other game. The soundtrack is really good as well and the game supports online mode and time trials. Overall a fresh take on the Kart racing genre thats is usually Mario kart or some other series spin offs.
$70 is not worth it. Buy it on sale like I did. Tracks feel too flat, linear, and unpolished. Having riders characters feels like a cash grab imo feels strange with the tracks like they don't fit. Using Items are annoying some are large, can't hardly see when racing and some are the same. Feels like too much clutter in the game with mechanics etc. Cool tricks, I like the boat tricks. I wish tricks wasn't automatic feels like it. Overall you can put hours in it its fun...
