Jewel Match Origins 3 - Camelot Castle Collector's Edition

It's what you'd expect from the Jewel Match franchise: pretty graphics, castles to build, interior rooms to decorate, and really long playing time. If you've been playing the series for a long time, this installment will remind you strongly of the Royale games if you use the default playing tiles. Wish they'd bring back the storyline which those games had too. There are a lot of ways to customize the game to your liking and a few other tilesets, more custom cursors, and options to select which tracks are played in the game music if you go to the CE extras section. The random bonus room addition to levels here and there from Aquascapes 2 is back, this time for bonus cups (grails) to collect, and a new feature is a "knight puzzle" in many levels where you must move a knight along a pathway until he reaches the sword in the stone. The sword may or may not be in the same room as the knight. If you've played pathway-making M3 games before, shouldn't be too hard to figure out. The rest of the game plays like any other Jewel Match game and is not overly cluttered with obstacles; you can do the levels by messing with them long enough. Instead of having multiple smaller castles to build as in earlier games, you now only have one huge castle per map to build and 4-5 interior rooms per castle to furnish. The speed match Steam Achievements have been removed from this game, so shouldn't be tough to 100% either as most of the achievements are a play long enough thing. While all these games are pretty and you sure get your money's worth if you're a completionist, my one worry is that after almost 20 years of these games, they may be getting overdone and possibly time for the developer to consider some other series or other game types. But otherwise, you can't really go wrong with Jewel Match for a classic M3 experience.

75 levels in and I'm enjoying this game very much ... and still learning new stuff along the way. I thought initially that it would be the same old, same old but I'm delightfully surprised at how fresh this is with the inclusion of things like an animated avatar representing King Arthur (I call him the Walking Dude because he struts around the game board) on his way to pull the sword out of the stone, which miraculously turns into a winged amulet for collection. That and quests for Grail amulets as well as the side games and puzzles based on pearl collections and such like. Graphics are excellent and the music (I keep it down low) is very good. It's a relaxing game. But it's never an easy game. You still have to work hard for the achievements. Clearly, I play in Relaxed mode because I prefer strategy to stress in my games. Timed and numbered moves modes are also available. This is another fine offering in the Jewel Match collection and I highly recommend that you get it.

Recommend. Good fun while listening to audiobooks. A Borderless Windowed option would be great though.

Even though here is where I'd usually go into the story, there isn't much one present, aside that you're in the land of Camelot. XD Thus, I'll talk about the gameplay. At the start of the game, you can choose to go through a tutorial, which introduces you to the basics of the gameplay. However, if you're familiar with these games, then it's fine to skip the tutorial. You can choose 2 sets of difficulty. The first set is choosing among relaxed, limited moves, or timed mode, which should be pretty self-explanatory. The second set involves choosing among normal, advanced, or expert difficulty. (For review purposes, I chose to play using a limited moves set and normal difficulty.) After choosing your difficulty levels, you're presented with the standard level map, which contains 120 levels as well as several bonus levels. Once you finish the standard map, you're taken to a bonus map, which contains an additional 80 levels and several more bonus levels. For the usual levels, the objective is to clear the boards of gold tiles as well as finding amulets. You can earn gold in these levels, which can be used to purchase shop items, like a hammer that can clear away several tiles in its vicinity or magic arrows that can clear away icons in certain directions. As I mentioned earlier, there are bonus levels, which are gathering pearls and solving puzzles. Solving puzzles will earn you stars, while successfully gathering pearls will enable you to unlock other mini-games, such as spot-the-differences and matching items. What purposes do amulets and stars serve, you might ask? You can use these items to purchase decorative items in scenes and backgrounds. Of course, there are lots of Steam achievements although they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited". Now that I've finished going over the gameplay, I'll get into my thoughts. I enjoyed the previous match 3 game by the same developer (please do check out my [url=https://steamcommunity.com/id/skyeraye/recommended/2571780?snr=1_5_9__402]review[/url] of [i]Jewel Match Aquascapes 2[/i]), so I knew I was in for a treat as I started to play this game. Also, it certainly doesn't hurt that Camelot stories are among my favorites. Putting aside that I like the theme of this game, the gameplay is fantastic while challenging at times. The levels start off simple but get complicated as you progress. Obtaining power-ups from the shop will definitely help. I have to admit that my favorite gameplay mechanic is where you have to guide a knight to his sword, where an amulet then appears. Although not all amulets appear this way, I truly enjoyed this mechanic. The levels are doable to clear and earn gold trophies, but I have heard that they can be very challenging on timed mode. As for the pearl and puzzle levels, I enjoyed them, too, especially the puzzle levels. Before I forget, I also enjoyed the additional mini-games, like the jigsaw puzzles and matching items. They add great gameplay variety if you want to take a break from the usual match 3 levels. All of the Steam achievements unlocked for me without any problems, but there might be a couple of challenging ones that'll take some planning to obtain. In regards to the art, it is beautiful. The match 3 icons are gorgeous, in the style of crowns, jewels, and other items. Especially, I enjoyed having the puppies and kitties present in the backgrounds. All of the art is well drawn and colored. The soundtrack is wonderful to listen to. The tracks all have that relaxing, soothing feel to them, as though you're really in the times of King Arthur and his knights. They're a great accompaniment as you're playing through the levels. Overall, would I recommend [i]Jewel Match Origins 3 - Camelot Castle Collector's Edition[/i]? If you're a fan of match 3 games, especially the ones developed by Suricate Software, and you love the romanticism of being back in the time of knights and such, then this game is worth taking a look. For the asking price, I'd say it's worth it, as it took me close to 40 hours to play through all of the levels (and that includes the bonus levels and mini-games) and earn achievements. You've got jewels, and it's time to match them. Tons of levels and bonus activities (decorating castles, puzzles). Very mellow experience with a lot of unique mechanics for a match 3 game.

Challenging levels, beautiful graphics, satisfying ambient sounds, gorgeous music, good mini-games...pretty much everything you could wish for in a Match game. One of my favorite series!

I have been a Long time fan of Jewel Match Games. They get me so excited when I see a new Match 3 from them. This one is super relaxing and all of the Jewel Match ones from this company get my heartfelt thanks because I love each and every one. IF you love seeing diamonds and other items with relaxing music that is always good and peaceful and Love to make a Castle come to life or a room this is your game! If I could rate it I would always give Jewel Match a Billion stars and beyond!

Just a quick review. I'm really enjoying this installment. I have quite a few of the the Jewel Match games from this developer. Both the card and jewel versions. I really enjoy all of them and don't regret purchasing any of them. If you like this sort of thing there is so much value for your money. But, I also thought that maybe I had reached the point where enough is enough. Especially true since I can replay or finish any of the ones I have and still greatly enjoy them. Then they came out with this one. There are enough new elements and game play to make me glad to play all over again. Thank you! Things that I like: - Great graphics, game design and very replayable like always. - Excellent value. - Devs very responsive to feedback. - New features add enough new spice even if you have played these games a lot. The Make-8-matches-of-4 achievement doesn't work, so you can't 100% it. Otherwise it's *fine*, but is ultimately outclassed by JW Dracula, which is fully functional.
