First thing first- I am not a veteran of the Jewel Match games. I think I have the first 2, and haven't played them for years. So the mechanics and the way things work in the game wre pretty much brand new to me when I got this one. Why did I get it? Dracula, and it's Halloween. Simple as. I am finding the game to be really interesting, and a bit more challenging than most casual Match 3 games, and I like that. There are tutorial levels, but it's really more like "Here's the thing you need learn, have fun figuring it out!". It's a tutorial that needs tutorials, I guess? Or you need to be familiar with how other Jewel Match games work? Not great if you are a first time player, IMHO. Anyhow- I am enjoying the game, and seem to have found a bug or exploit to getting Collectible Cups pretty quickly. No, I am not going to share it, since the devs may fix it and it may not work any longer when you read this review. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3356275996 ***Accessibility*** The Strategy Guide is very long winded, and often a tad confusing. May cause issues for some folks. Some graphics effects are flashy and could be an issue for folks with certain neurological conditions that are light or photo-sensitive (like epilepsy or light-sensitive headaches or eye conditions like MDF Dystrophy). Not great for low-vision folks- some of the text is very small, some of the graphics effects are hard to see (nets) even with the slider the devs added to allow for darkening or lightening the tile background colors. The colors of two of the different pearls in the Pearl Rooms are going to be hard to tell apart- lavender and brown are very close together, and may cause issues for people with some forms of colorblindness. There are audio cues when certain things drop that you need to click on quickly to collect (coins, mainly) that could make some aspects of the game difficult for Deaf or HoH players. Not the most accessible game, which is a tad disappointing for what is supposed to be a casual game. YMMV, of course. ********************************************************************************* Overall, I am enjoying it, but if this is your first Jewel Match game, you may have to deal with some frustration trying to figure out how things work. No Trading Cards right now, and the game is still in the "Steam is learning about this game" phase at the time of this review (meaning achievements won't count toward your overall achievement count yet, and can't be used in a profile Achievement showcase). It's hard to tell if the game will reach the Steam metrics needed to change this. But it's a good game, well suited for short play sessions. (quick edit to fix a formatting error)
A match-3 game blended with hidden objects, mini puzzles and scene building, perfect to put you in a Halloween-y mood!
Gameplay & Features
Settings & features include; audio options, background board brightness, tutorial help, screen mode, the ability to disable hints and fx’s, custom pointers and option for static pieces. There is a tutorial section that is quite lengthy if you play it and the levels are not saved if you opt out before completing them, however any progress you make in the tutorial such as coins earned, pieces earned and power ups purchased carry over to the main game. There is an in-game shop that you can spend the coins you earn in game that will net you powerful power ups such as spells or weapons to take out rows or large areas of gems and chests for holding more pieces. As you play you will collect pieces that go towards rebuilding a gorgeous scene of Dracula’s castle and its eerie landscape. And the gems and amulets collected go towards decorating rooms within the castle itself. You can also collect stars to unlock collectables to add to your scene like flying bats. Each level has multiple match-3 boards to complete and sometimes they are connected. Like on one board you need to collect a key to unlock the locks on the other one. So each level itself is multi-leveled.
The Visuals & Audio
Visually the game map is laid out nicely and is interactive with elements like flying bats and effects. Dracula himself and the cut scenes are 3D rendered and okay for the most part. What I really find well done is the scene of Dracula’s castle and the landscape that you can build up, and I look forward to collecting all the pieces to see the whole thing complete. The soundtrack is appropriately Halloween themed and a nice backdrop to playing the game. I also like the “tinkle” sound the pieces make when matched.
Overall Experience
This game is so much more than your standard match-3 game. It has so many elements to it. The biggest draws being rebuilding Dracula’s castle scenes and decorating the castle rooms. Mix in some hidden object games and mini puzzles to round it out. A lot of enjoyment and hours for the price. A really good game to play while relaxing (and eating some Halloween goodies). 🎃
When Otome Lovers encounters The Butterfly Effects, it's a blend of enchanting love stories and the magical ripples of fate!
Odpočinková match 3 hra s upírským prostředím. Za nasbírané mince si stavíte hrad a dekorujete místnosti (bohužel nejde upravit a vše jen kupujete).
How is it that this game hasn't received enough attention and sales to lose the "profile features limited" on it? This is a really fun version of the Jewel Match 3 games. Is it grindy? You bet, especially if you want 100% achievements. But that is to be expected with these games. And playing a few levels a day can be quite relaxing...and thought provoking, which is good for a senior brain. I highly recommend it. Plus I want the Perfect Game that I just earned. LOL!
Unlike all of the other games from this developer, the game runs out of levels to play but still scenes to complete. You can't get anymore medallions because they are only available in a new level. Not worth the buy.
It isn't your mom's M3 game! This installment of the nearly 20 years and running Jewel Match franchise has gotten a big makeover with a lot more puzzle element. You still have the classic remove all tiles and collect all amulets and keys to win, but now there are 2 characters in most levels, Dracula and the Butler. Dracula must be led into his coffin, which may or may not be in the same room as he is. There are new obstacles: tombstones, barrels, and garlic. Dracula is the only one who can remove the tombstones, while the Butler is a lean, mean, garlic (and barrels, snails, and turtles) zapping machine. The characters aren't just confined to a conveyor belt anymore; they can be moved about anywhere in the playfield with matches, which makes things considerably more complicated. The random collectible item room from a few earlier games is back, this time as 15 collectible cups to obtain. I found the collectible cups to be easier to get in this game than in earlier games featuring the bonus collectibles. The first map features 90 regular levels and 10 each of optional "puzzle" (no powerups allowed M3 levels) and "pearl" (limited pieces available) levels. The second (CE) map has 50 regular levels and 10 each of the optional puzzle and pearl levels. Playing the optional levels gives you either bonus stars, which you use to buy the optional decorations in the castle building scene and castle rooms which appear in between levels, or amasses pearls which you use to unlock the bonus minigames. There are 12 minigames each in the SE content and CE content. These are either spot the difference games or clutter minigames, which I am finding a little too hard with the having to pick as many as 5 of a kind to clear a group, but maybe that's just me. Lovely graphics as usual from Suricate Software, although I found myself preferring the alternate tilesets given in the CE extras over the default playing tiles, which seem a little too dark and lacking in contrast. The usual Steam Achievements seen in these games are back, but 100%-ing this one is a serious grind because I think the parameters for building the castles and rooms were not adjusted properly. Otherwise, I found myself really enjoying this Jewel Match, after being sort of bored with several of the recent games because they were all starting to look the same. If puzzles aren't your thing, try one of the many other games in this series, but if you were like me and getting sort of tired of "reskins", definitely check out Dracula's haunts here. Dracula: "Where's my BLOOD? There is NO BLOOD ANYWHERE in this game! I came over here wanting to suck some neck, but there's just a small, steamed fish! Give me some BLOOD!!!"
If you love your Match 3 games, you'll love this one. I played in Untimed and Unlimited Move mode because I really don't think fast enough or logically enough for either. That being said, some levels were still very challenging to complete and that held my interest. I finished the games with all achievements in under 45 hours so it wasn't a major gaming commitment. And the graphics, especially for the Collectible Cups, were lovely. My biggest issue was the lack of snails in so many levels. I was promised snails. You cannot promise extra snails and not deliver. I still recommend the game though.
Love the Jewel Match games by Suricate. Good game for relaxing that is not too challenging.
