Short and sweet said... Absolutely addictive match 3 game from the Jewel Match series family. There are 120 levels and the stars you earn are used to set up various spooky scenes. As always, I recommend buying it on sale. Have some cookies with it?
INSTALLING NOTHING
Who can say No to some Match-3?! (Shhh!) Wonderful all. Designs. You can even move the board if you want to! That's cool. Lots of power ups and Achievements. My only problem was that I am unable to play... The Crypt levels? (The ones you enter AFTER you complete the initial goals of the level itself) -> As the game crashes and I have to re-do the whole level again. I had to start skipping them... So no stars or extra gold for me. D: Even with that problem, it doesn't mean you can't have fun or keep playing. ^^ Thanks you.! :D :>
Typical Match-3 games with many powerups and some bonus games to play. It is fairly fun and easy to sink time into. The level gets gradually harder but you can always buy extra moves. Sucks that there is no level replay system.*
Pros: -great interface with easy to see playing tiles, elegant Halloween theme -long playing time -lots of bonus game content Cons: -no auto-advancing; scene building is required to continue -no level replay feature after level is completed -relaxed mode doesn't apply everywhere I'd originally gotten this elsewhere and purchased it again in a bundle so I could go for the Steam Achievements. This dates back to the days when the Jewel Match series was less cluttered with obstacles and had larger levels. I'd actually forgotten just *how* big these levels were, with several hundred tiles to clear in many cases! It's easy to get large cascades of pieces going while playing with this older style of level design, so if you're reasonably proficient at M3 games, you get the feeling that you're playing rapidly, even without using a lot of powerups. The interface is elegantly simple, and the playing tiles are still some of the best I've seen with being pretty and easy to distinguish without being overly detailed. The soundtrack and ambient effects suit the Halloween theme, which is "spooky lite" - nothing actually scary, just a little creepy with you constructing houses, farms, or small castles with a complement of bats, ravens and not-that-realistic spooks. There are the usual powerups you'd expect, most of which you buy in the in-game shop, but you also get some just for making larger matches. You must build a new scene with the pieces and amulets you collect from playing and have the entire scene finished before you can advance to the next block of levels. This isn't all that obvious, but the entire game is subdivided into scenes comprising 15 levels each. The developer had not created the auto-advance feature for their games back then, so it's possible to get "stuck" if you're not into the scene-building part. There's tons of bonus content for a standard edition version game. Not only do you get a choice of playing an optional room after finishing the vast majority of levels, but there are plenty of bonus games in a separate menu which unlock based on your score. Unfortunately for those who'd rather play in relaxed mode only, the bonus M3 games are either timed or limited moves only; there are also several mahjong bonus games which are not timed although you can earn more gold if you replay a mahjong game and beat your previous time. 100%-ing the achievements is a LOT harder than it looks, and because the game was made before they started incorporating a level map, you can't replay a level once you've finished that level. Sigh...I'm going to have to do another run through one of these days to get that level 120 achievement.
Jewel Match Twilight is a fun match 3 game but do not change the resolution!!! It makes the game unplayable and it black screens. I had fun with it while it functioned but now it doesn't. Uninstalled reinstalled, verified files, nothing works. Don't put it to full screen makes it unplayable!!! FIX-You can solve the issue by editing a file named C:\Users\*yourPCusername*\AppData\Roaming\Jewel Match Twilight_Steam\usersdat.tsp Edit it with any text editor. Check for the line WINDOWED_MODE=0 And replace it with WINDOWED_MODE=1 Save the file and start the game. It will run in windowed mode.
It's okay, nothing special. Got it on a good sale, so no complaints. Standard match-three game. One thing that is a minor issue for me is the best power-ups trigger when clicked, I am used to (and prefer) them being triggered by moving them. Meh, really minor. It has a lot of side games, I've played a mahjong and one other, but have already forgotten what it was, so meh. There is a system of building pictures, that can be turned into your screen background if you want. It's nothing special. All in all, it's totally sufficient, but nothing exciting. One thumb up. ADDENDUM: If I could go down half a thumb a would. I really did not enjoy the bonus games, stopped playing them. Got bored around 30 hours, so I certainly got my moneys worth. One thing I would like to see added to these games is the ability to play more with the wallpaper pictures we build. I would like to be able to remove and add the individual elements, allowing for a lot more variety. Not a big deal.
Suricate software games are insta-buys in my book! These are what Match 3 games are all about. I also love the Halloween theme.
