Ugly GUI, weak platforming, unsatisfying and awkward movement (it's easy to lose your momentum and not build it up again until you crawl slowly to another slope), and tumblr-fied dialogue that's so heavy-handed it'd shatter anything it lays a finger on (I don't want to eat ze bugs and live in ze pod either but it gets to a point). How do you go from developing an incredible game like Webbed to this bootyshit brah. It's baffling.
I got this game cause I love isopods <3 i didn't expect the hilarious and fun story, or that it would be so big. most fun i've had platforming since banjo kazooie when i was a kid. Mechanics are both forgiving but allow for a lot of fun speed and vertical movement so you FEEL cool, even if you can catch yourself. keeping an eye on these guys in the future. also deep sea isopod costume, my FAVORITE rolly polly guy <3
I see a lot of people in the reviews saying the movement is awkward and janky. My reaction is what ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game did they play? I get the same sense of freedom and enjoyment in the movement from a couple hours of playing as I do from having hundreds of hours in Super Mario 64. If you find the controls janky, I implore you to just take some time to just play around and see how to get speed and keep it; when you get a feel for the controls, they are fantastic. The game is silly, has a fantastic story, and it's just fun to play. As someone with a lifelong passion for both entemology and socialism, it feels as though this game was tailor-made for me. I only have a few gripes: it's rather short (I finished it in about 4.5 hours) and therefore I feel I don't get a good chance to really get to know the characters, if you want to 100% the game, you'll need 2 playthroughs unless you checked all the achievements before, I'm ocassionally using the glider when I don't mean to because the key is the same as for jump and the glider in general doesn't exactly feel "right", and you can't continue from a completed game like you can in Webbed. Overall, though, the game is one of my favourites I've ever played. Toicfaidh ár lá דאַלוי פּאָליציי
Everything is better with a grappling hook, right? Well, not this game. Webbed was great fun, and this game looked like a worthy successor with its fun story, cute characters, and satisfying movement. The controls are just terrible though, especially with the magnet/grappling hook. It doesn't lock on at all how it should, making travel frustrating when it should be fun. During the first boss fight, you realize a simple forward jump will only work a fraction of the time, and you'll randomly lock your grappling hook onto things you didn't want it to. I really want to enjoy this game. Please, devs, fix the controls, and I'll gladly purchase this game again.
The game is sweet, and the first section up til playing beyond the spider's web is silly & adorable -- then everything after that becomes functionally unplayable and deeply frustrating. The movement mechanics, platforming, and lack of direction becomes a game where the frustration of where to go, what to do, and how to do it are so tedious or confusing it is impossible to play. I love the isopod's little legs and animation -- but the number one challenge isn't with the 3D platforming -- it's with the controls. It's just one of those open worlds that didn't need to be. It's effectively Sonic Adventure 1/2 where the open platforming in 2 was phenomenal, but in 1 it didn't quite know how to make the movement translate between linear and open. Isopod has that same perplexing mix of fun linear rails rolled into a ball and moving very fast, but with an open world where walking is a slow paced crawl. Trying to figure out how to platform between the two speeds is very uncomfortable. Finally the signposting & open pits of death just aren't selling the direction to get to the various points of interest, which demands very good open world direction in the design of a 3d platformer. How do I get to the Magnet thing? How do I reach that 2nd billboard? I have no clue! My 5 year old really really loves Isopods, and was very excited to play this, but I just can't recommend we play it. Daddy being too frustrated to play the game his baby really wants to play isn't a good vibe. Which is a bummer, because I too really want to love this one. I just can't recommend anyone else get into that situation, especially at full price 20$USD or even half off at 12$USD.

Why was this game of all games used as clueless propaganda. Gameplay is fun. Message is pointless
fun to be an isopod
so cute!! cried real tears when i first got it, amazing graphics and super engaging gameplay, entertaining storyline with a good message and simple (NOT bland) in a way that doesnt overwhelm me like some other games do, definitely a game you can take your time with. the creature animations are also very accurate to how they would actually move! thank you for not kawaii-fying our crustacean, insect and arachnid friends and showing off their true crawly beauty in all its gloriousness!!
