'Isekat: Crushed by I'm not writing all that nuh uh you can't make me' is a roguelite typing game wearing an isekai shaped costume where the gimmick is that you're a cat and, supposedly, don't understand what's happening. The game circumvents this the Stray route, but giving the cat a robot companion that does the talking. Just like in Stray, the short lived deception that comes with that is soon washed away by the sheer earnestness of the premise's execution. Isekat's art direction is adorable and the gameplay loop does make you suffer than ailment known as 'just one more run, please'-itis. It's a roguelite first and foremost, so you'll be playing and replaying levels in order to defeat the boss and either rescue catizens or gather extra resources. Both of those are important for the -lite part, and you'll get permanent upgrades the more catizens you rescue and the more buildings you repair. Cats need rescuing and a town needs rebuilding because evil dog and his evil henchmen have brought CHAOS and CALAMITY to these poor humanoid kittens, but we really don't care all that much about that because there's typing to do. Instead of your usual combat mechanics, conflict is resolved through speedy typing that rewards quick decision making. Some bonuses will make your attacks (correctly typed words) stronger, you know, basic stuff, others will make your attack stagger the enemy, so you'll need to choose carefully (but quickly) which word to type at any given time. Levels also have time limits, so the whole experience of doing a run is quite frenzied. They happen so fast that the replayability needed to fully clear levels and rerun them for extra goodies isn't actually an annoyance. Already rescued cuties will also give you some of the game's currency (catnip!) to help you rebuild. Really, it's super cute. The whole thing is Derivative with a capital D, and I'm not really a fan of isekai in today's day and age, but the puns and characterization that comes as a consequence of the hero being a simple cat with a cat mind does sell the whole thing. Now, because it's a typing game that relies on timely input, accessibility for people with reduced motor or visual capability isn't available. At least not for the time being. But the team has been working on fixes and including quite a handful of languages, so maybe that'll come down the line. Like, the typing of letters could be replaced for pressing specific button sequences when using a controller. But that's not this specific game's fault and is actually more of a consequence of the innate nature of typing games. It's good training for people that aren't slow at typing but are prone to making mistakes, like me! My one critique is that Isekat does need more bishonen nekomimi. Not less bishojo, just more bishonen. I mean, I appreciate that Tony the Tiger lookalike, very much so, but I also appreciate my bishies. Funny game with funny isekai references in title and achievements, but there's many things that made the game needlessly unfun - unlocking cats require playing the same stage 5 times and then you have to replay MORE to grind for currency to actually unlock their permanent upgrades. This sucks so hard because 1 upgrade requires THOUSANDS of currency, up to 10,000 while completing a stage only yields you a few hundreds. the repetition will burn players out. - You can ignore all this grind and speedrun the game straight to the final boss like I did, but it's extremely difficult with barely any upgrades. I'm able to do this (while struggling a lot) because I can type over 130 WPM (99th+ percentile), but I assume most players aren't as fast as I am, so they have to suffer from the grinding. - Why's doesn't healing sardine get any stronger? it stays at 10 hp heal / sardine when late enemies hit 30 HP at once, making heals very useless and force you to play very defensively since you get 2 hit KO with no way to meaningfully heal. - enemy nodes need to give better rewards. there's no point in picking battle over treasure chest because the reward is garbage (no reward if you don't level up) and you're risking your HP. - reliance on uncommon words that nobody ever uses while there's barely any long common words at all (like "mysterious" for example). it's much more fun when players are typing words that they know at high speed aka actually testing their typing skill - words are just random difficult words that aren't related to the stage/enemy context, there isn't even any isekai joke words. see Keys of Fury: Typing Action for example, its stages are full of words (and SENTENCES) that are fun to type because they are relevant to the current stages (like Arcade, Vegetables, Jokes, Ninja-related words) I hope devs read this Thanks.
I 100% the game because I really REALLY like this game but there is still some improvement that should be done to make the game feel a lot better. Starting with story, if you have watched any isekai anime before you will know that this game is going to have a dumb funny story so don't expect a crazy deep story like Code Geass or anything. The story can be categorized as funny, predictable and cringey at times, not really a bad thing but some serious people might not like it. The characters are fine and weird as hell but I like the boss characters more. They are more charming to me and hundreds time weirder, even the text get weirder if you meet them lots of times. For the gameplay, it is just like it advertises. It's a typing game so when there is an enemy on the battlefield you have to type the text on them to attack them, and block when they are about to attack you. It sounds simple and it is simple but your typing speed and accuracy is what will determine your success in this game. It is also a roguelite so you can upgrade stuff before each run like your heart and attack power. There is also a hella lots of references not only from isekai but fantasy too. Developers if you're reading this, Frieren is not an isekai but I appreciate the grimoire reference anyways. Also, I should stated that at the base while moving the main character around, the main character keep moving forward for a second after i stopped pressing the movement button. It feels really weird and should be fixed. I don't think it's a design choice because this kind of game does not need that extra momentum unlike Mario which is a platformer game. The graphic is sometimes popping in the base and vsync should be added to stop the occasional screen tearing. This problem doesn't occurs in the dungeon though somehow. So overall I really like this game. I like the gameplay, I like the characters and I like the graphics. But I do think it need a little more polishing to make it better.
It's an okay game but has annoying issues for people who like to perfect games (get all achievements). 1. Farming Life in Another World achievement must be bugged or the description is too vague. It's either visit the Clover symbol on a map and mow down the catnip (crops) 500 times (doesn't track in achievements while others do which leads me to believe it's not this), get a 2.5x multiplier and then mow down the catnip (2.5*240 is 600 catnip/crops > 500 catnip/crops but it can't be this since on multiple occasions I have done this and the achievement has not popped), or lastly there is some crop mowing area that I can't for the life of me find in the kingdom. 2. If the achievement is related to the first scenario or second scenario then it is annoying not having a return to kingdom or restart the map option. Having to Return to Title and then Continue is inconvenient. 3. The 60 points achievement is still unreasonable even after being reduced from 70 points. It has too much rng invovled. It was only through luck that I was able to get 61 points and that was being damn near perfect as well. Until these issues are resolved I would not recommend buying this game and putting yourself through hell.
It's a typing game with a funny take about isekai. Gameplay-wise, I like that the difficulty increases as the levels go on not just via longer words but through the new enemies and bosses as well. There's an achievement where you have to play each levels 5 times, also so that you unlock the locked up cats, and while there's a chance for it to be repetitive, I was pleasantly surprised that the boss' dialog were different each time. It adds to their characters and you get to know a little bit about their motivation. Each run is slightly different depending on which path you choose, so if you're lucky, you can easily go through a level without fighting any enemies and go straight to the boss after simply opening treasures or harvesting catnips. While I didn't mind the 5x repetition each level, it did feel like a drag when we reach the ending, simply because the pacing as we meet the boss suddenly became so slow. The boss was also the only one in 3D-esque art style, completely different from the cutesy 2D style the rest of the characters have. I don't mind it, but it sure is funny. The final fight has some dialogs and while it does add to the dramatic ending a good rpg / story needs, after I experienced it once, that's enough. The 2nd time I played it, it felt like such a drag. I wish there's a skip cutscene. Thankfully, I unlocked all the captured cats after the 2nd run and I realized, I can simply lose my HP midway because the game considered me starting the level as 'entering the castle'. Thank goodness for that workaround. I like that I can get catnip from the rescued cats. I enjoy going around the kingdom(?) collecting 'Hero taxes' from them. It does max out on 9999 catnips, so be sure to use them on buildings before reaching the cap. Then, there's an achievement about using cheats..? How does one naturally find that? I had to consult discussion post to find it. So, I found this game during the typing fest and I tried the demo and I like it. The demo also mentioned that the save file is carried over to the full game if/when I buy it. So I bought it. I continued at level 2, but I didn't receive 'complete tutorial' achievement. No matter. I'll just finish the game and start a new game to get it. But it didn't work. While the game warn you that they'll overwrite the save file, I didn't get the 'tutorial' achievement, and I have unlocked all of the buildings and cats as if I'd finished the game. However, the playable levels were locked, just like it used to be when I started the game. I have no idea how to unlock it. I am simply stuck with an unobtainable last achievement, with levels that is now 'broken' so to speak (at the moment of writing this comment). I am not tech-savy enough to go through the files within the computer to wipe out the save files, and frankly, I don't care enough to do so. I've finished the game. I've 'unlocked' all achievement except one. I uninstalled the game. There really isn't any end-game to this typing game and I'm not really looking for it. It was a nice, short, experience. I enjoyed it, sad that there's some bug that prevents me from 100% the game, but is happy to move on nonetheless.
They poured the whole bottle of awesome sauce on this one
this game has changed my life
This game pushed my rage to a whole new level, Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia activated.
If you're an Isekai genre fan, You're going to love the tiny adorable references in this game! You gotta type to attack bad guys and save the cat people from live imprisonment in all these super cool dungeons and rebuild their home. Everything is typed to accomplish and it's such a cleverly planned game. If you like typing games, isekai and furries, you'll LOVE this for sure! Also the dev has a great sense of humour.
